Just had a very relaxing 11 night stay at the Hermes with the wonderful Kathy and I can't wait to go back. From the very moment you arrive you are made to feel a part of her family and it makes for an idyllic stay on Kalymnos. The hotel is spotlessly clean and bedding and towels are changed every 48 hours and rooms are cleaned daily. Booked a package with Jet2 purely on the reviews and the break more than exceeded those. Continental style breakfast in the morning is complimented by the delicious cakes Kathy cooks every night and I'll really miss them! Arrived late in the evening with Jet2 but Kathy, and visiting family from Oz, were there to greet me at midnight and make sure I was settled in. On my return to catch the ferry back to Kos and then the plane home today 15/08 the transport organised by Jet2 was running late due to the St Mary religious festival/holiday and Kathy left her family meal and drove me to the port in Pothia in time to catch the boat over to Kos. That's the kind of service you get from this lovely lady and her family. Myrties village itself is very quiet with around 9 places to eat and a well stocked supermarket but Massouri which is around 10 minutes walk away has a lot more choice. Be aware though that there's no footpaths on the island and you have to walk in the road but I had no problems with that as they are very courteous drivers. An irregular bus service (an unmarked white coach) runs to Pothia but the times published are very elastic. It's currently €3 each way. Taxis cost around €15 each way but share with the locals (I've been in streets and places I'd have never seen dropping locals off) and it's a lot cheaper. Boats run frequently over to Telendos and take around 10-15 minutes and cost $3 each way and there's 3/4 restaurants on the island. Beaches in Myrties are of pebbles but they are not busy and there's sunbeds available to hire. It's a very quiet resort with no jet skis, Para sailing, water parks and nightclubs and it's...
Read moreWe visited Hotel Hermes in August 2024. Booked through jet2, got the last ferry of the day from Mastichari, picked up at Pothia by taxi and arrived at hotel at 1.45 am. And there was the lovely Kathy to greet us. She insisted on helping with our luggage, showed us our room, and got us 2 bottles of Mythos from the bar. As other reviews have stated, nothing is too much trouble for her. Next morning we went for a lovely continental breakfast which we paid separately for as we were S/C. Breakfast is lovely with the added bonus of meeting other guests and chatting to them. This was our first visit to Kalymnos and we couldn't have chosen a better hotel. Room is spotless, the shower is always hot and powerful. We had a room at the back, overlooking the garden. Fresh towels, and cleaning every day except Sunday. Fresh bedding regularly. We used the pool in the hotel opposite once and also the pools in several hotels in Massouri, which are all free if you purchase drinks/food. We went to beaches in Massouri several times, but our favourite beach was 5-10 minutes walk in the opposite direction at Melitsahas, where the sunbeds were 10 euros for 2 with umbrella and a fabulous beach taverna. Coming back to the Hermes after a day at the beach or a night out felt so welcoming and safe and often Kathy would be there with her ready smile and willingness to chat. We were so sad to leave when the two weeks were up. Kathy was there to see us off. It's very rare that I make a return visit to anywhere as there are so many islands in Greece to visit, but we're booked again for August and I simply can't wait....
Read moreJust back from a fabulous two week stay in Myrties and can't recommend Hotel Hermes enough. Kathy is such a lovely lady who works really hard to make sure everyone has all that they need and leave feeling relaxed, refreshed and part of the family. Spotlessly clean, large comfy beds, good shower, frequent towel & bed changes, air con, fab hairdryer (better than mine at home), breakfast buffet (we didn't use but looked really nice) lovely balcony with drying line & pegs, kettle, tea & coffee provided, fridge & hotplate if needed (we didn't as too many wonderful restaurants nearby) tv (although why anyone would need one of those in such a glorious place I really don't know), bar, library & Kathy has a great collection of sponges for sale.| |The area around Hermes is lovely with a beach two minutes away to the right at the bottom of the road and another five minutes walk to the left. Both have a few sunbeds, showers, changing huts & snack bars with facilities but not crowded. Sea is fantastic to swim in or you can use the pool at the hotel across the road (but why would you when the sea is so great?). Two great tavernas at the bottom of the road serving delicious traditional Greek food at very reasonable prices and another two just a little further on. Boats to Telendos (which is well worth a visit) very frequent from 7 am until midnight 3 euros each way,||I could go on but you should go see...
