Kalypso exceeded our expectations and in our view is worthy of more than the two stars jet2 affords!||The location is wonderful, with a handful of bars and restaurants right on the doorstep, almost on the sea front and with a gem of a pool which is needed in the heat. We loved Myrties which is quiet and peaceful but with just the right amount of facilities including a supermarket and ATM just at the top of the road. (There is quite an incline from the hotel to the main road for those less mobile but it’s not too bad if you take your time)||The sea views jet2 promote I would agree as per the previous review is slightly misleading as there are buildings infront of the hotel so views are only partial and not for every room. I have to say I’d have been miffed had we been on the ground floor looking at the courtyard - however in our case we had room 9 on an upper floor and the view from the large spacious balcony was wonderful! Especially at sunset. There is also a little washing line and pegs which is so handy!||The rooms are spotlessly clean, comfortable and well equipped with self catering supplies should you need them. Bathroom small and only a shower curtain rather than a screen but perfectly functional. The air conditioning worked very well too. No complaints at all regarding the room or caretaking.||We booked breakfast which is served at Zephyros across the road - fantastic! Huge selection of nice fresh food. |Also have to say that the food served at the hotel during the day is excellent.||The staff are all fantastic and a special shout out to the lovely Sevasti! The most fantastic customer service and gave us loads of local tips and knowledge about where to go in our hire car. We prebooked a hire elsewhere but you can actually do this through the hotel on arrival really easily.||The ONLY gripe we had regarding our whole stay is the sunbeds- we never had trouble getting a spot and the pool was never crowded or busy but those beds are honestly the most uncomfortable things I have ever sat on in my entire life, no exaggeration! Take extra thick pool towels (which are not supplied so you do need anyway!)||Last but not least, there are some lovely and friendly cats that frequent the hotel; they are well looked after locally but in the main are just looking for some friendliness and affection. They are no bother so as per the recent review, just give them some loves!||Make sure to get the water taxi over to Telendos, it’s fabulous!||A wonderful stay and we couldn’t recommend Kalypso enough, we were so pleased and had the best time! Read moreThis studio complex was well located for exploring the local area. and accessing bars, restaurants, beaches and the ferry over to Telendos as well as the local bus service. The local area is full of hills and steps being located on the hillside so anyone visiting must be prepared for that. From the complex itself it is a walk up a moderately steep hill to the main road but being there and near the sea adds to the appeal of the location. I was lucky to have an upstairs room with a partial sea view. I was very happy with that and the balcony was large and offered privacy from the neighbours on either side. There was a welcome washing line and pegs for drying clothes. My room was freshly painted and spotlessly clean with adequate storage and all the amenities I needed. Effective, quiet air con included was very welcome. The bathroom space was tight but I worked out my strategy to shower comfortably and there was always hot water. The pool area has a revolving number of guests from the other nearby hotels and outsiders but everyone seemed to visit it for short periods. If you only want occasional use the pool is fine but the area is too small to rely on spending all day there and there is also limited shade at the height of the day which is just the nature of the sun movement and not the facilities provided. The jacuzzi was a bit of an additional treat for a property rated 2 stars by Jet 2. The availability of drinks and daytime snacks at reception is also a very good facility. All the staff I encountered were extremely helpful and friendly. The cleaning was incredible, in fact I felt guilty at the frequency of towel changes, it was very generous and of course a bit of a treat. Overall I feel that this property offers excellent...
Read moreThis is a lovely and quirky place to stay. The staff are amazing. The place is very clean, and the studios have everything you need for your stay. It is located just a few metres from the sea, separated only by the wonderful Smugglers restaurant which serves food and drink from 10am until midnight. Snacks and drinks at Kalipso are very nice and reasonably priced. Within a 2 minute walk, you have several restaurants, bike and car hire places, 2 bus stops and a supermarket, plus the jetty to catch the ferry to Tolendos island. Venture a little further, and you can go scuba diving, or shop and eat in a different place for every meal of your stay.
So why not a 5 star review. The place is starting to look a little tired. The pool is small but big enough for guests staying in the 20 available studios at Kalypso. Unfortunately, the pool is open to the public and also shared with guests from other hotels which can make it feel oversubscribed. Also, there are only 10 sun loungers, which are very uncomfortable, and some of those are cracked this year. Once they are occupied, the remaining guests and users of the pool have to sit in chairs, or lay on one of 8 pads near the hot tub. There is lots of space available on the terraced areas for more sun loungers, which would give people the choice between being in full sun by the pool, or in a quieter shaded area. A little bit of TLC, replacing the tired furniture and providing more sun loungers would make this one of the best places to stay on this...
