I was going to write a 4 or even 5-star review. Beautiful hotel, great rooms, great spa and pool. Service is fine. The breakfast is average but with so many offerings you can always find something to eat. ||Two gripes:|1. The coffee at breakfast is undrinkable, so I had to resort to making crappy instant coffee in my room. Very disappointing for a five-star hotel.|2. There is no conventional tv in the room, but instead a somewhat bizarre hyper high -tech tv built into a huge wall mirror. I can't describe it: the visual quality is terrible and when you try to watch it, you see a small and faint tv picture and at the same time a reflection of yourself in the mirror! Not that there is anything to watch - about 40 channels not a single one in English. Not even CNN or BBC. Nothing.||BUT the main reason I cannot give a top rating is: tonight ( I am writing this while lying in bed at 10:45 p.m.), there is a musical performance outside in the pool area, which is unfortunately about 50 meters from my room, which, with a sea view, cost me more than a regular room. The concert started at 8:00 pm, and I really can't complain because that's a reasonable hour, but it is going on and on and on, very loud music, and when I called the reception they said it would last until 11:00 p.m.. Is that reasonable at a resort hotel? I don't know, but what I do know is that anyone with a room facing the pool and the sea will have very loud live music pounding away in their ears for 3 hours, making doing anything impossible. Heaven forbid somebody might want to read, or talk to their partner or put their, chikdren to sleep -- or sleep themselves. None of that is possible, not for three full hours of loud and continuous ( and quite mediocre, although that's a matter of taste) music. ||Sorry, Alimounda Mare - you have destroyed one of my few precious nights in your hotel . This is...
Read moreI would advise against staying at the Alimounda Mare hotel due to several concerning issues we encountered during our visit. Firstly, we had booked a premium room with a promised sea view and paid a premium price for it, but upon arrival, we were assigned a room with a disappointing tree obstructed view. These trees obstructed our view of the sea entirely, which was not what we had paid for.
When I attempted to address this matter with the hotel's reception, I was directed to speak with George, the manager. However, my attempts to meet with George were met with evasive responses, as I was consistently told that he would "be here shortly" or "just left a few minutes ago."
Furthermore, the hotel's amenities left much to be desired. The Wi-Fi service and internet connection were consistently weak and often non-functional. The room was not adequately cleaned, the water pressure in the shower was exceedingly low, the in-room safe was quite small, and the balcony lacked proper lighting, making it impossible to enjoy in the evenings for reading or relaxation.
It is my belief that this hotel is better suited for large groups rather than individual guests. While its location is excellent, the management appears to be careless and unresponsive to guest concerns. If you are seeking a private vacation experience in Karpathos, I would recommend choosing a small boutique hotel with a well-regarded reputation for personalized management rather than opting for a larger hotel that fails to meet its guests' expectations.
In summary, I believe that the Alimounda Mare hotel falls short of deserving a 5-star rating and would more appropriately be...
Read moreI completely agree with the negative reviews others have posted. We were also given the wrong room category, which I immediately reported to reception while holding my sleeping 4-year-old child. Despite my request for a different room, no one offered to help with our bags. I asked to speak with the manager, but no one apologized or made any attempt to resolve the issue with even a hint of hospitality.||The room we ended up in was directly above the restaurant, and we were constantly disturbed by noise—dishes being washed until 11 PM, and delivery trucks arriving as early as 6 AM. We woke up to this noise every day, and when I tried to explain the situation to the receptionist, I was completely ignored, leaving me feeling humiliated and disrespected. We were repeatedly told to come back later, and eventually, I gave up on getting a different room.||Lastly, I requested a late check-out until 2 PM so my child could take his nap, which would have cost me €70. After explaining my dissatisfaction with the service, the receptionist responded dismissively with, "That’s your opinion." I have rarely encountered such poor customer service.||This hotel is far from being a 5-star property, not just because of the appalling customer service but also due to the poor cleanliness, level of the buffet, lack of English speaking staff etc. Thank you for ruining the precious holiday I had planned with my son. I wish I had chosen a different hotel to get my...
