Good island and overall we had a good time - but it is definitely overrated. Yes, the people are friendly but so they are everywhere in Greece. Yes, the beaches are beautiful but Greece is full of beautiful beaches that often offer much more (e.g. a shower, a place to have a coffee etc.) and are much more easily accessible (22 hours by boat or 200 euros for a 40 minute flight!) 70% of the tourists are Italians flying directly with charters and a significant amount of Greek Americans (mainly from New Jersey - we experienced some classic 'Jersey Shore' moments while we were there). As a veteran turist on greek islands as crete (11weeks so far 4 times), rhodos (2 times 5 weeks) kefalonia (2 weeks) we, myself and my wife with 2 kids, found ourselves on this gem. this is a very bald island, windy, small populated and everything you buy in the stores was bought by the owners in rhodos!×2 times the price! mostly scandinavians, the Italians buy alot of land here. As i heard, some ancient dispute over the island. but just rumors. narrow, serpentine roads with no side raling is what keeps your pulse up otherwise this is a place to relax! And I promise it's what you'll do! the beaches are picturesque, transparent turquose. as a non swimmer i snorkled for the first time in my life in karpathos and it hit me then! -i hate this island, because i have...

Food is good and not very expensive, depends on the place. People are in general friendly. Unfortunately island has not many monuments to visit, there are some small museums but they are closed. Cleaning could be improved as it is not satisfying and visitors need a clean place. People who work on tourism try hard to survive as they work 4 months as a season but expenses and life are for 12 months, so organising cleaning would be...
