I had a wonderful holiday here! All the staff at this small and cozy family hotel are lovely, friendly and attentive. Special thanks to Elena, Marina and all the staff for their wonderful hospitality with a smile throughout my stay ;)
The hotel is about 20 - 30 minutes by bus from Heraklion airport. My room (201) had a comfortable bed, a balcony overlooking the street and partly the sea. The room was nice, clean, equipped with air conditioning, mini fridge, TV, toilet, shower, hairdryer and kettle. Free Wi-Fi connection is sufficient for surfing the internet (download about 1 Mbit/s). Room cleaning with towel change was done every day by a very nice and smiling lady :)
The hotel has a beautiful garden with swimming pool, jacuzzis, sunbeds and a poolside bar where you can relax with a book in the shade or sunbathe. The varied breakfast buffet, also with local produce, was delicious. Dinners were served as a 4 course menu of local Cretan specialities which were an absolutely delectable taste experience - Cretan paradise!
The sandy beach of Ammoudara is about 100 meters away from the hotel. Beach chairs are available free of charge if you order drinks or food (e.g. in Full mezze). The sea was warm and clean. The stones in the sea are marked with yellow buoys. The beach and beach chairs were not crowded, except on Sunday.
The centre of Heraklion can be easily reached by public transport (line 6 or 1, you have to buy a ticket for a fee of 1,10 Euro e.g. in the nearby Crm supermarket). The public transport stop is approx. 90 metres from the hotel, directly opposite the Crm supermarket. There are plenty of shops, cafés, bars and traditional taverns in the vicinity of the hotel.
Thank you for a very enjoyable holiday and I will definitely be back again! Have a...
Read moreAfter the initial issue with our room was taken care of, everything was good. When we arrived to check in initially we were told that our room had a problem and had to be fixed, they didn't have similar rooms available in the hotel and asked us to transfer to an apartment two minutes down the road, which was inconvenient but I understand that things happen. We were asked to come back in the morning for breakfast and were promised that the room would be ready. The apartment was OK, was very outdated with rock hard beds but it was only for one night, so it was fine. When we arrived in the morning however, after having breakfast we were told that our room was fixed but it was given away to late arriving guests last night and we would have to wait till they check out. Really?! I understand when things break and need fixing but to give away our room knowing that we would come back the next morning after asking us to come back at a certain time, not to mention the fact that it was paid for - really?! And all that was done without ever saying " sorry for inconvenience" or anything of that nature, I don't know maybe it s a cultural thing . Any way, we asked to at least be given a room where we could change to go to the beach and leave our luggage, since it was still four hours away. After we returned from the beach we were indeed given a promised room and everything was fine after that. The room was big, we booked a "superior" one, breakfast was also very good. The garden in the back was quite nice, with a small pool, jacuzzi, bar, hammocks, ping pong table and a few other games. All in all it's good value for the money. And they even provided for us a breakfast to go since we had an early flight and had to leave before the breakfast was served-which...
Read moreIt was a nightmare experience that I never want to experience again. We arrived late at night at 00.30. We desperately wanted to get into any kind of room to take a shower and sleep, but at the reception we were greeted by a gentleman who told us that he had no rooms available because a tourist broke his leg and had to stay another day. A lie! But that doesn't matter. He told us that he was offering us another room with a better rating in Heraklion. It didn't suit us given the late hour but in the end we accepted because all we wanted at that hour was to sleep. He called us a taxi, we don't know if he spoke to the taxi driver but, he put our luggage in and sent us off. No address, nothing. Just a piece of paper with the door code. In the meantime it was 1.00 am. The taxi driver drove half an hour to Heraklion and then spent another half hour looking for the address. He stopped various people on the street to ask about the address, it was clear that he didn't know where to take us either, then he stopped near some dumpsters looking for number 26. He kept asking us where to take us. And we didn't know anything because he hadn't given us an address, he just showed us the inside of the room on his phone. In the end, the tired taxi driver showed us number 22 on a block of flats and told us to look for number 26 ourselves. We couldn't believe it!! So you Greek, born there, speaking your language, can't find an address and you make us, tourists, at 1:30 in the morning, look for an address. We asked to go back to the hotel, we called the agency, the people from the Christian tour agency very promptly called the hotel trying to remedy the situation. In vain! The receptionist told them that there were technical problems with the room and that we refused to be moved to another, much better room. I said 10 times in English and then with Google Translate in Greek that we were not taken to any location, the taxi driver simply wanted to drop us off near some dumpsters, but the receptionist was Zen. Then he showed me on my phone that the car could not have reached the exact location and that we would have had to get off with our luggage and go around the building to enter it. Well, how would we know, if the taxi driver didn't know? In the meantime, it was 3:00. We slept on the couches in the lobby. At 6:00 the shift changed and the young lady who came told us that check-in was at 14:00. So another 8 hours of torment. It was terrible, it was insensitivity, a lack of respect for us as people.||A fost o experienta de coșmar pe care nu vreau sa o mai trăiesc vreodată.
