This will not be your ordinary review but more of a very personal story involving the owners of the Origami, Ioanna and Ioannis who have now become part of our family.|My wife and I have been to Greece many times as my wife is Greek.|After wrapping up some family business we decided to spend the few days of our visit in Nafplion as it is one of our favorite towns in Greece.|We settled on the Origami as the reviews were amazing and it was exactly what we were looking for.|I have had the good fortune of staying in many of the worlds best hotels over my years and I can truly say, none of them are even close to the Origami.|The rooms are large, airy and bright, the location outstanding as it is not located in the busy and hard to get to, central area of Nafplion.|I had booked a room with a pool and it was exactly what we needed, tranquil and private.|Breakfasts were fantastic and the complimentary bottle of Rose wine was just what was needed after our travels.|Do not hesitate to book a stay at this wonderful hotel, trust me, you will not be disappointed.|Now the other side of this story.|My wife became ill while we were in Nafplion and with Ioanna's insistence, we went to the local hospital emergency ward, where my wife was treated for vertigo. |We were planning to leave for home in another day, so my wife rested up while I packed, etc.|Both Ioanna and Ioannis were constantly checking in with myself and my wife to ensure she was getting better and making sure if we needed anything at all.|During the night my wife suffered a severe stroke and fell into a coma while we were sleeping. |I awoke to find her unresponsive and of course panicked with what to do.|The housekeeper (I'm sorry but I cannot recall her name) was the only person in the hotel at this time and luckily she spoke fluent English and helped me carry my wife to the car so I could drive her to emergency.|From that point on, both Ioanna and Ioannis came to my rescue with incredible help, love and support.|Ioannis spending time with me at the hospital, translating for me, running around town to get my wife's test sample checked for covid (this was a requirement for the transfer to Athens), speaking with the doctors, etc, etc.|Ioanna was at the ready back at the hotel for anything I needed, no request was too small for the two of them and their staff, from allowing me to stay beyond our reservation to taking calls from the hospital and relaying the information to me.|Over the course of the next 24 hours, my wife was transferred to Athens where emergency brain surgery was performed and after 4 weeks in a coma and 5 weeks in post-op, we are now back in Canada with my wife expecting to make a full recovery.|People like Ioanna and Ioannis do not come along to often and when they do, you grab them and love them like they are family.|We continue speak with each other almost every day and without their support and love, things may have turned out far worse than they did.|So yes, the hotel is fantastic but it's nothing compared to the people that you will meet if your lucky enough to stay there.|Ioanna & Ioannis, we love you both very much and we will be back there soon to enjoy a nice bottle of Rose together...
Read moreWe stayed at Origami Boutique Residences this September in one of the private pool suites. First impressions were breath-taking and it's clear that a lot of love and thought has gone into making it a real personal experience rather than just another hotel. The area is about 10 minutes walk into the old town/marina area where there are plenty of restaurants. The room itself was very large, bright and spacious with all modern and clean appliances. There was both a standard and rainfall shower plus a separate sink & dressing station and separate toilet. All towels and some lovely smelling toiletries were provided. There was also a hairdryer and towel drying racks outdoors. In the living space was a small fridge, TV with netflix that you could sign into, a large sofa (I think this may have been a sofa bed but we didn't use it), some stools and a pull out table if you wanted to eat inside. The bed was kingsize with a sheet and blanket and more pillows than Ikea! (Which I loved!) The room we were in had both a back patio and a front private pool area. We enjoyed our really high quality breakfast on the back patio as it caught the sun in the morning and then moved to the pool area from late morning as the sun came round the building. The pool itself was great for what we wanted it for which was to relax in privacy after a few days in Athens hitting all the tourist sites. Water was a pleasant temperature, steps were comfortable enough to sit on and read and the deep end was around 1.5m. The chairs by the pool with footstools were also very comfortable although a sun lounger wouldn't have gone amiss. The personal touches however were what set this accommodation apart in my eyes. I celebrated my 30th birthday whilst we were out in Greece and Ioanna not only personally welcomed us and made sure we were happy with everything but also provided a few little treats and surprises which was so sweet and unexpected! Highly recommend particularly for couples looking for a little privacy in the lovely...
Read moreWe arrived around 2.30pm and, coincidentally, were met by Ioanna as we were about to unpack the car. She advised us of the procedure for entering and leaving, and confirmed our preferred breakfast time, all in a very pleasant manner. She had also emailed us with recommendations for places to eat and visit. We would strongly recommend Wild Duck in the Old Town and for simple pastries, gelato, cakes, deserts, and great coffee you need go no further than the amazing Kosmos, a 1 minute drive or 5 minute walk, open 24 hours a day. ||We were a couple and we had booked the Duplex room No.5 for 5 nights. The accommodation is very good quality, with nice furnishings, a comfortable bed, excellent bathroom with good shower, although we found the pillows were very hard, and there was only a very light cotton blanket which barely covered the bed. The breakfast was of good quality and selection, and there was some flexibility of the time you wanted it. There is a roof terrace but it is a shared roof terrace so may not suit everyone. We used it when no one else was in the other room, but otherwise we had breakfast in the duplex. The balcony is nice but you are fully exposed to people walking or driving by. It would be nice if some form of film, or one way material was used to cover the glass barrier.||The bathroom was excellent but I would suggest a small magnifying/make-up mirror would be a useful addition, not least for ladies using the room. ||The area the property is situated in is away from the old town in a local residential area, and about a 12-15 minute straightforward walk to the Old Town and port area. There is a large free parking area at the port although it can get very busy, especially on weekends. Having said this, we were always able to park there for early...
