Located about 1k from the beach and facilities at Plaka, so your own transport is desirable. We hired a quad bike and this proved to be perfect for going everywhere on Naxos. ||Mateus Studios is a typical white and blue, low-rise Cycladic complex of about 16 rooms (at a guess). Very well maintained and prettily presented. Right on the side of the new main road from the airport towards Mikri Vigla. The new road isn't shown on any maps, but Google Earth is OK. If you are arriving on the ferry head south out of Naxos town following directions to the airport. Keep straight on past the airport along the new blacktop road. The new road turns to dust and concrete about 1k south of Mateus. So if you run out of tarmac you've passed it. Clearer directions would have helped us find it easier.||The housekeeper doesn't speak English. But with the help of her son we managed to communicate. The whole place is kept very clean and tidy. All the paintwork is bright and new. Our room was cleaned daily, towels and sheets changed every two days. WiFi worked pretty well most of the time in our room. Plenty of storage for clothes. A view of the coast from the shower window. Aircon worked fine and wasn't noisy.||The housekeeper was charming and tried very hard to please, despite our lack of Greek. We were brought home-cooked gifts daily - croissants, cake, loukoumades. ||We watched the sunset over neighbouring island Paros every evening from our balcony.||||So why the average rating? The kitchenette comprises a steel sink unit with integrated two ring electric hob, under-counter fridge (which was nice and quiet), cupboards, crockery and a small briki (Greek coffee pot). But no cutlery to speak of - two forks, two spoons and two small vegetable knives. No kettle, cooking utensils or cooking pans. We did acquire a cooking pot off the housekeeper. It's not equipped for self catering and the hob is almost a waste of time because you lack any cooking equipment. ||If all you want is chilled food and drink from the fridge and greek coffee you will be fine.||The nice big double bed was probably the firmest we have ever slept on. We like a firm bed but this one was probably a couple of grades too firm.||Overall good value accommodation in a quiet but accessible location that allows easy access to the rest of the island. Plenty of parking with nice views front and back. Just 1k from naturist beach if you are after the...
Read moreRight off the bat - you will need wheels to get to the beaches and generally about the island. The bus service to Chora is excellent nevertheless so but you do need to be on the beach to enjoy this service. The nearest beaches are soft, golden sands, clear aqua water, some parts even naturist - ! - and very clean: as well as loads of organised beaches (umbrellas and sun beds).||The studios themselves are in a quiet, more rural area and are comfortable and exceptionally clean. Unfortunately we can't remember our host's name, but she is absolutely delightful, generous and kind: despite our lack of Greek language, we managed with lots of "ok" and smiles. ||Our stay was more than ok - we were able to have a load of laundry done and enjoyed complimentary garden fresh tomatoes, cucumber and peppers from the gardens. ||Thank you for your warmth and care during our stay.||We do recommend a stay at Mateus Studios - you can hear the sea from your terrace and it was charming to see garden sprinklers in action! As we haven't seen...
Read moreWonderful place if you are looking for a quiet time and if you have a pet companion! I extended my holiday for a few days because it felt just the right thing to do :-) Both Maria and Evagelia are the sweetest souls and will look after you very well. Rooms have everything you need and a balcony where you can sunbake or relax after a busy day. You can walk to a beach from there, takes only about 10mins. From there you can easily access nearby tavernas and cafes and enjoy beautiful sunsets there. The location is perfect as it is away from crowded places but close enough if you decide to visit (about 10mins drive to Chora and Agios Prokopios). And beautiful beaches on the South-West are only about 5mins drive. I will go back there one day I'm sure. Thank you for your great hospitality,...
