I am always careful when reading and writing reviews as they are often not completely factual and often based on a comparison to people's previous experiences. So first I give a quick explanation of what type of travellers we are and experience |We have travelled to most of the Greek Islands and always go all-inclusive. We normally budget for a 3 or 4 star hotel but on this occasion chose the Hotel Monica which is a 2 star (although loveholidays told us it was a 3). The hotel is about an hour by taxi (72€) or more by transfer. Upon arriving you also have to pay a hotel tourist tax which was about €3 a night). No charge for air conditioning which is a positive although we barely used it. Very quick check in with no wristbands. The hotel itself is quite small (60 rooms)with mostly basic two or three person occupancy although there are also apartments. Most likely f the rooms are on a single floor and spread about, with either a balcony or patio and grassy area. The rooms are cleaned daily to a good standard with fresh bedding and towels. It is basic though and although there is a TV, there are no English channels. The WiFi however is good enough to stream movies if you want.|The pool is of good size and kept clean and tested by staff on the morning. No lifeguard but it is mostly adults who were here with only a couple of very young kids. Because of there only being 60 rooms I doubt if it would ever feel over populated|We personally enjoyed the food but can understand why some may not. Compared to larger hotels there was not much choice on any one night. If lucky, you may get a choice between two meats (pork or chicken), and then either chips, potatoes or rice. If it was potatoes and you don't like potatoes, you would not have a choice. The salad was beautiful as usual in Greek Hotels but there was a lack of deserts apart from jelly and watermelon each night. Breakfast I enjoyed which was a cooked buffet breakfast although don't expect English bacon or English sausages.|The all inclusive was adequate. Choice of soft drinks, beer, red or white wine, tea or coffee and spirits of Whisky, Vodka, Oozo. What we did like is it was served yourself. No queuing apart from on Saturday night when there was a lot more Greek people about.|It is very much your standard all-inclusive, just more limited than your more costly hotels. But personally we always ate and drank well throughout our stay. If you do get fed up with the food you are a few minutes walk to dozens of restaurants which are very reasonably priced.|I would describe the hotel as traditional Greek, as I would Sidari. The beaches are amazing, especially the covers at the other side of the beach. There are however plenty of bars a few minutes walk which have many different tribute acts on which are surprisingly good.|We will definitely be returning but there was one big negative. This is not the fault of the hotel, but in September there are a lot of wasps about. I have a phobia of wasps so will come earlier in the year. In our 10 day stay only one person has been stung and that is when she picked up a cup and caught one between her fingers. Something to consider though if you do...
Read moreI don't often leave reviews however for this I had to. This was the most unsafe and unprofessional hotel I have ever stayed at. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.
The rooms are very basic, which is to be expected of a 2 star hotel, however the shower head would fall off regularly while showering, so we had to hold it up in the air instead if we needed to wash our hair. The TV also did not work, it was on top of the wardrobe and I don't think it was even plugged in. The hotel is also a bit of a walk from the centre where all the shops and bars are.
On our first morning, the cleaner walked straight into our room without knocking while we were still in bed. She then chose to just stand there staring at us despite us repeatedly asking her to leave and close the door. My friend eventually had to get out of bed, shirtless may I add, and close the door herself.
The worst part of it all was on our final morning. At 9am, the cleaner woke us up by banging on our door, shouting at us to let her in. We explained that we didn't need the room cleaning, as check out was only at 11am, and asked if she could come back later. She then became very angry, screaming at us to open the door and trying to force it open, shoving her key in the door whilst rattling the handle. We had kept our key in the locked door on the inside for extra safety, as we were two young women traveling alone, and she almost managed to push it out.
She started swearing at us through the door multiple times, simply for not letting her come in. We were both terrified and just kept asking her to leave and come back later. She then left and came back 5 minutes later and did exactly the same thing again. Eventually someone staying in another room came out and talked to her and she left.
We quickly packed up after this and checked out early because we were scared for our safety which should never be the case staying in a hotel abroad. The reception staff were confused why we were checking out early despite check out being at 11 and we explained the whole situation. However, we have no idea if anything was done about it afterwards. The whole experience was absolutely terrifying and we just feel lucky that she didn't manage to get into the room.
Sidari is beautiful and 100% worth visiting but whatever you do, do not stay at this hotel.
I would also like to now add the owner says that it is not true in their reply however we did tell reception exactly what happened and we thought the would do something about it. Clearly their response calling me a liar shows that they do not care about the safety of their guests. We have a video where you can hear their "polite" housekeeper is swearing at us which we did let the woman at reception listen to at the time. All of their responses bad reviews from guests are clearly lies to try to cover up how bad their hotel is. Please for your own safety to do not go...
Read moreWe had a ten day booked all inclusive holiday with 3 kids at the Monika. Remembering it was a 2 star hotel, my expectations were not high but I would say the hotel, staff, location were great for a 2 star but the food let this place down massively. Lack of options , repetitive, and some dishes just looked like something my cat would turn down. After day 2 we had to make sure we eat out every day at least once so we could eat and be full. As we knew what was coming for the food they offered. I say one fish dish re introduced from tea, to the next days dinner and tea option. Pasta is a favorite daily option for tea and on some occasions out of the 5 warm dish choices it was 2 of them, pasta fusilla in olive oil or spaghetti in olive oil. No fruit available at all except cut oranges at dinner, watermelon at tea everyday. Breakfast you had the option of fresh tomatoes only for your fruit option. So this place is best as a place to relax, chill and sleep, a room booking only I would say.
Let's start with the positive. Great location, 5 mins from beach, quiet, peaceful little location, and resort. The staff at the food area were brilliant, there everyday from 7am til 11pm.. Great swimming pool, and sun loungers ready available. The manager friendly and approachable. The rooms were basic which is expected for a 2 star hotel, but the shower head looked like it had never had timescale remover near it as my picture shows . Using the toilet you were asked to not put toilet paper down toilet but use bin in bathroom which isn't good. The TV in the room was a model from the 90's. No WiFi in any room and in main area signal was weak and not stable. Only one night of entertainment throughout the week, rest is just a low music player in main area. Dining room is kept immaculate by the staff.
All inclusive options is warm / cold drinks, alcohol most of day till 11pm, powdered soup from a machine that was awful, all self service no bar. No snacks at all available through day, no ice cream except during dinner / tea 1230-2pm, 7pm-9pm.
Breakfast 7-10am - 2 type of cereal only, the same everyday some days two different cereal mixed into one distribution bowl, no fruit daily available for breakfast we had to buy our own to take to breakfast with us. , If you don't like cheese, toast, bacon, frankfurter sausages, small 2 inch croissants, tomatoes, fried eggs, cold over boiled eggs, then it ain't for you as this was daily. Dinner 1230-1400, Tea 1900-2200 - Limited options, plondain, plain, repatative. Maximum 5 warm dish option. Regular these were pasta or potato dishes on several occasions taking up two of the warm dish space.
I would recommend as a room booking only as best and avoid inclusive or food options. If they fixed this it...
