We visited Platanias via the bus from Chania station one day and after hours on the fabulous beach and in the sea we fancied a drink before getting the return bus on the top road, as we were sitting about 2 minutes walk from Erato we chose it. Erato I’m sure is a lovely place, views to die for, clean, great pool but I started to notice the attitude of the waiter when we ordered the drinks, ouzo in fact. I took a toothpick from the condiment tray and suddenly a guy rushed over and replaced the whole stack, but after we asked for the bill ( €16) we had 4 drinks, I was ignored so I got up and went over to him, asking again. He said 21 Euros, when I said ‘no, it’s 16 he was adamant I was going to pay 21, I was adamant he was going to lose. I showed him the menu, it was 16, he said ‘we’ve changed the prices’ I asked where this was written, of course he couldn’t show me, as I had a 20 note I stayed next to the till waiting for the correct change, reminding him of Greek law as I hadn’t even been given a receipt so I could’ve walked out without paying, he reluctantly gave me my change and then had the cheek to say ‘I wouldn’t have argued over 4 euros’. Really?, but you did. He was clearly trying it on, but picked the wrong guy. Bad...
Read moreOk 3 star hotel. Reception staff were lovely very attentive and sorted any issues with the room quickly. The room was very clean and the clean staff were amazing. The view wasn’t great but we didn’t pay for sea view balcony. Location is great on the beach near plenty of lovely restaurants and a bus comes up past to near areas eg Chania. €2.20 per person to Chania (the buses back from Chania are very busy in the evening). Taxis if you want to go further are more pricy that other Greek islands. The hotel pool area was a bit of a let down we didn’t spend much time there due to that - very few sun beds and little shade. There are signs saying not to reserve sun beds but people do anyway and staff don’t care so wake up early to get one reserved!! If you miss out you have to pay the hotel €8 to rent Sun beds on the beach (this isn’t the same for all beaches locally so go to a beach elsewhere). Also on the last day we had to get money out from local ATM and change it up as they charge to hold luggage €2 per locker… we have never come across this before. Also please note the hotel charge €1 to weigh luggage - at Chania airport this is...
Read moreJust spent a week at this hotel and would describe it as good. It is a 3 star hotel, basic but clean and our room was ok. We did not pay for a sea view and had a garden view, but not much of a garden.||The kitchenette is very basic and wouldn’t think you could easily cook a meal. The staff were very helpful and friendly especially on reception. The lads that work in the restaurant really work hard and are very pleasant. Usual issue with sun beds, there are not that many and yet again towels on them, even though there are signs about not reserving them. Therefore, you will need to pay 8euros for beach beds, not too bad really.||The restaurants on the main beach are fantastic, so definitely venture to them rather than just stay on the main strip. A day in Chania is a must the buses are regular and only 2.20 euros each way. We went on the day trip to Elefonnissi, a great beach however it’s a long way and you need to get there early to get a sun bed at 20 euros. Plus you need to walk about 30 mins from where the bus drops you.||We loved Platanias and...
