Kyano beach restaurant — Restaurant in Municipality of Platanias

Unfortunately our visit was disappointing. At first the staff seemed friendly and professional although service was slow.

The problem started when we ordered 2 starters and a salad to sample different foods. Which the waiter thought was too much and said so under his breath. This seemed to become some sort of a running joke among the staff and every time they served us, it came up as some snide remark and snickering between waiters. Definitely not the type of attitude you want to experience as a customer. Different waiters served our table for each course.

The starters were tasty and the calamari was fresh. Our chicken souvlaki had flavor and a nice char from the grill, but half of the chicken pieces were completely overcooked. Local recommended red wine was a good pair with the food.

Both of us ended up with an upset stomach the day after and it is most likely the food we ate here, as the only food we had that day was hotel breakfast, which we haven't had any issues with.

The beachside view was nice and you could enjoy a sunset while dining. So points for the atmosphere.

Overall we would not visit this...

What a find. Turns out this place is 5 minutes from where we stay. At the first glance, looks like many other places. But you feel the difference the moment you enter. All restaurants we have been to so far had amazingly friendly people working there, that's one of the reasons we keep coming back to Greece almost every year. However Kyano is something different. If you are looking for a special dinner with amazing food, amazing wine selection, but most and foremost very professional and knowledgeable people who make you feel welcome and do everything they can to make it a great and special experience, this is definitely the place to go to if you are visiting Crete. Luckily we discovered it quite some time before we go back home to NL. So we will definitely be back a few times before we leave. For people who like specific details, we had tuna carpaccio and seabass ceviche to start. My wife had the grilled octopus and I had the wild mushroom pasta with truffle. Everything was very delicious, paired with very well made Negronis and amazing Greek wine recommended by the very knowledgeable guys...

Amazing service friendly, polite and genuinely helpful staff. Probably one of the best customer service I've experienced in Platanias and Agia Marina. We came there as a big group and even though we arrived quite late, they quickly arranged a table, and served us being very helpful about the food to order.

Many things got ordered at the table, but I've eaten from the avocado salad, the grilled vegetables with cheese and the grilled sardines. Ingredients were fresh and very well cooked. The avocado was a bit hard, but it worked well in the salad as it didn't mash.

We stayed longer than their opening hours (we were a big chatty group) but they were really nice about it! They even split our bill at the end which was really really nice from them. We went to different restaurants in the area and none of them had this great customer service!

The location was also really nice. It was night so you couldn't see very well the sea but I assume it would be a fantastic view during the day.
