Me and my Fiancé stayed here for a week whilst attending our friends wedding. Its in a fairly good location from Old Town with the major benefit being the private beach area which allows much more room to breathe and enjoy the sand and sea without the issue of being swarmed by hundreds of other holiday makers.
Now for the hotel itself and the food and drink it provided, we felt the drinks were a bit pricey especially as having visited most local restaurants whilst there the drinks were cheaper at the restaurants than the hotels bar which was suprising. This bar stayed open until 12a.m, which was nice with a happy hour also lasting from 6pm-8pm.
Food was good and very well priced, especially for the sheer size of the dishes however my major complaint is that the kitchen CLOSES at 4pm! Meaning there is no option for dinner here at this restaurant, which is a real shame as I really enjoyed the lunchtime menu! The same cannot be said for the breakfast, which i thought was truly terrible, the very first day upon walking into the restaurant area my fiancé scooped up some scrambled eggs and began to walk away, it was then I shouted at her to stop and to throw the whole plate away as I had notice an entire swarm of small insects/flys resting on the scrambled eggs...this hotel does not cover their hot foods when they're sitting out after they have been cooked. They do, however, cover their breads and cakes...odd choice of priority here.
From this day onwards, we ate toast in the morning with some orange juice.
I can not complain about the staff here as they were very friendly and attentative. However in terms of our rooms I have a MAJOR complaint...we were told months ago that our room had been upgraded and so we were excited to see what room we were now going to be introduced to. Our smiles quickly left our faces as we were ushered to the lower ground floor (-1) on the elevator button display, and met with a room next to the communal toilets (toilets hotel guests would frequently use throughout the night for some reason not feeling as though they wanted to use their own toilets in their rooms and continuously slam the doors).
The location being awful, we thought there would atleast be some silver lining to the room itself but again our smiles were once again wiped from our faces as we were met with a relatively small room which was poorly lit and a very small shower room, a shower room which would frequently fail to drain the water that would build up on the floor after washing, I inspected the drain and could not find any faults with the drain so cannot say what the issue was here but to top this experience off the shower itself would switch from extreme cold to searing heat within a second at the slightest nudge of the tap in either direction, burning my fiancé on her first time using it.
Our patio area which was now a level below ground meant that if we wanted to get up to ground floor we would have to walk up 8 steps to get up to ground floor, the biggest issue here being our entire patio was overlooked by the pool area meaning our privacy was severely affected which resulted in us regularly keeping the door and curtain shut which was not ideal as we then had to run the AC unit because the room would get hot, putting a strain on the AC. We could tell the AC was struggling as it would frequently make loud noises in the night and spit shards of ice and water on the both of us sleeping in bed aswell as flood the entire patio area the next morning.
As you can tell we hated our room and for the life of us cannot fathom what this upgrade was and what our original room could have been if THIS was our upgrade.
Pool was fine although extremely deep at 2.7m at the deepest end and the 'shallow' end being 1.5m. Not a complaint but very odd as it meant most guests couldn't relax in the pool and instead would latch onto the edges as they did not want to tread water the entire time they were in the pool.
Overall, experience here was fine, our biggest gripe being our room and for this reason we would not look...
Read moreWe’ve just had an amazing 11days at Petradi Beach and here’s the different aspects broken down:||Rooms:|Get a sea view room!! Pay the extra as it will change your holiday. The sea view rooms all open onto views of the pool, beach and sea, and the beautiful views of Rethymno Forte in the distance. The front of the hotel is on a busy road which I’m sure can’t be as nice and would be noisy. The rooms are bright, modern and are immaculately cleaned 6days a week. There is a hanging rail and a single stone shelf (above the fridge) but no drawers or other storage. We took collapsing storage bags to keep our clothes tidy and they worked fine. ||Pool and sea:|The pool and pool area are cleaned every day and always look tidy. The pool itself doesn’t open until 10am, but you can sit in the sun beds around it from any time. The pool area leads straight to a private stretch of pebbly/sand beach which also has free sun beds. We had days of still sea, and also days of rolling waves. The lifeguard station on the beach puts flags out about the sea safety. It was great fun in the waves as the water is quite shallow for a long way out. There is a pebble bank in the sea and a few guests had sea shoes, but we managed over it fine (albeit slowly to not fall over as they are smooth but uneven). ||Food:|We stayed bed and breakfast and there was plenty of variety of food at breakfast time. No full English, but a nice mixture of breads, hot food, cereal, fruits and fantastic coffee. |The snack bar food was also good value for money as the portions were huge (and tasty)! We often had one dish between us. ||Local area:|It’s a 20 minute walk into the Old Town of Rethymno, and it’s well worth it as the old Venetian streets are beautiful with plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. We often asked reception to book a taxi there (€5-7) and then walk back. Walk on the other side of the road as the path is wider. |There are also some amazing restaurants a 5 minute walk from the hotel (turn right outside reception and after 2 mins, follow the path down) They were some of the best restaurants we went to, but they are slightly more expensive than some in the Old Town. |Visit the old Forte as it’s well worth it for the views (as well as the history)||Staff:|All the staff at Petradi were amazing!! A real credit to the hotel. The reception staff always ready to help, and the bar and waiting staff worked so hard, but always smiling. We didn’t see the cleaner, but she did a great job. ||All in all, I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel, but make sure to get a sea view room (with a balcony, not a terrace). It’s a perfect...
Read more30 rooms+ for couples or small family. Tend to be small but sufficient for a comfortable stay unless you like spacious personal accommodation. There's a lift to 1st and 2nd floors if needed. Beds are comfortable and air conditioning is efficient and quiet. Kitchenette with fridge, twin hob, electric kettle. Provide your own beverages, snacks, etc. Meals are simple, traditional with plenty of light vegetables, cheeses, olive oil of course, yoghurt, fruits, coffee, tea, squash, etc. Staff very friendly. Had a small tv in the room, unfortunately no remote control so it was not much use. But it's mainly greek channels would you believe. It's all greek to me. However, free hotel WiFi for usual internet and used personal roaming data to access iplayer and the like. Buffet breakfast and meals usually taken out to dining area a few yards from the beach. Waiter service for lunch evening meals with bar kiosk. Several loungers and parasols for the sun lovers. Several supermarkets for groceries, bottled water usual personal and household goods. 25 minute amble to Rethymno town centre. Have to be a bit watchful crossing roads, not all drivers are particularly conscious of faded zebra crossings but pick your moments so they can see you well in advance of stepping out, or act as if you expect them to stop with purposeful eye contact and do it. Probably best to be a city driver, or at least confident, if hiring a car, etc. Coach and lorry drivers here can be a bit impatient if you're tootling along. Interesting old town at it's heart with plenty of casual cafes and smarter restaurants to choose from. The marina cafe's vye for custom but not too pushy with a smile. Could go on..... it's 3 star and comfortable. We prefer being reasonably close to daily community life rather than holed up in large hotel you have to walk out of to be part of the hustle and bustle. Good but not essential to use a few greek words for courtesy but not essential for the most part as most service staff speak English if catering...
