(long story short: 3 star hotel for undemanding, we get poisoned by food, have cockroach in room, drinks are undrinkable).
We've been on Rodos for the first time, but it was the worst holiday experience ever, because of the Porto Angeli hotel. I will be very detailed because it's for sure not a 5 star experience. First impression is nice, the common area is clean, there are many pools so it's not so crowded. At least in May. But you will not always find a free sunbed, people used to reserve it early in the morning. Never had a problem finding sunbeds on the beach, but there is no area for the smokers so you can be surrendered by them. Location is very nice, sand is not gold, much more dark, also mixed with stones, but it makes it 2 in 1, more fun for youngest. The family room with sea view is disappointing. The view is mostly on solar panels and boilers on the roof of the closer building. It's a rather mountain view, but it's ok, because they are really nice. Why in the FAMILY room there are two single beds? There is a big gap between them and they are moving constantly. Also the mattress quality is low, we didn't sleep well at least one night. Washbasin is outside the toilet... First time seeing such a revolutionary solution, what I can say is that it's not working at all. You will put your kids asleep and after that all teeth brushing, hand washing etc you will do with your soul on your arm ;) only soap, no shower gel, no shampoo, no ventilation in the toilet. It's absolutely to easy to open door from inside. You can lock the door but even after that it's enough to grab the handle and open doors. Completely ill-considered solution when child beds are directly close to these doors, and you have room on the second floor. Room should be renovated and finished with more pietism. Food and drinks. Taste of food is ok, I would rate it for 4/5 but it doesn't matter, because herbs are only hiding that it's not fresh. I read bad reviews before we arrived but it was too late to change anything. Unfortunately they were true, we got poisoned after one dinner (didn't eat even once outside the hotel), I was vomiting all night but after that I feel better. Our child wasn't so lucky, she was vomiting whole day and they after. We've been told on reception desk that this is because some tourist have a virus. Strange that when I stopped eating at their restaurant I started to feel better immediately. Finally we met with medical doctor because situation of our kid wasn't look good. Situation for now is that she is vomiting fourth day. Thank you very much! On the end of the day - what is the difference of old food or virus in hotel which cannot be solved from weeks? I talked on airport with people from other hotels and didn't have such experience. Drinks are terrible, juice is only on breakfast and it's not fresh, it's from carton. After breakfast there is nothing healthy to drink except water or tea, all drinks are very sweet. I also don't understand why for example semolina or oat flakes are already sweetened? This is something you can easily do on your own... Coffee is... No it's not a coffee, it tastes like instant. Should hire another person to make omelettes, because it looks to much time.
And icing on the cake - one night we found an extremely big cockroach, evidence attached. Would I recommend? I recommend you forget about this hotel. Why I wrote so much about 1 star? Because I saw many people from staff who work hard and be very friendly, but sorry, I cannot give nothing more for so bad...

Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet's begin with the good: This hotel is in a beautiful location and the views from virtually every point in the hotel are beautiful. The mattress in our room was superb š- memory foam but not hot. Check in was a friendly but lengthy affair. Maria in the main restaurant was so gracious and hospitable. Konstantin in the sales department pre-arrival was very helpful and kind.
The not so good: Our air conditioner did not work. We had 2 visits from maintenance, one that got it slowly blowing, but it never actually got cool in the room. The 2nd visit there wasn't even the pretense of working on it, the maintenance man just held up his hand and said give it time. As a result of the ongoing warmth in the room, we found ourselves drinking much more water and requested an extra bottle but were told no, one liter per room (nevermind the number of guests in each room) was the standard and we would just need to deal. Two days of negotiations back and forth and an escalation to the manager and we were able to get a 2nd bottle of water on the condition we didn't drink any of the sodas in the "mini bar" refrigerator. The mosquitoes were intense. Despite hunting them nightly, we kept finding more and more bites every morning. Housekeeping left the doors open while cleaning, allowing more to find their way in every day. Haphazardly applied covid protocols. Guests were asked to wear gloves at the buffet, but there were only 3 hand sanitizer stations rather than putting a bottle at each table. Masks were frequently worn below the nose by team members and guests alike and there were no attempts to limit capacity or mainten distance in the restaurant, which was enclosed. Oddly, they did enforce a 2m minimum distance at the beach, which meant there were not enough lounge chairs for most guests to enjoy. Pre-departure Covid testing at the hotel was easy to schedule but failed to take any distancing measures and didn't even bother to wipe down surfaces between guests being tested. Definitely recommend doing all you can to be the 1st to get tested because otherwise you may end up getting it from the testing location. Finally, if you have food allergies, I recommend staying elsewhere. Despite having a sign posted that they are careful with allergens, many of the food options didn't have signs posted indicating what they were (much less having allergens indicated) and there was a lot of cross contamination from diners using utensils and serving spoons to move allergens around on their plate before touching...
