We looked at this place after deciding to leave Old Windmill just across the road (see seperate review!)
So, we walk into the pool/snacks area as complete strangers and the 1st thing the guy manning it did was grab 3 bottles of water from the fridge for us and say "Hi, what can I do for you?" (No payment requested) We explained we were after booking in and he was very helpful, showing us a room and we booked it there and then, but unfortunately not available for that night.
When we did move from our other accommodation he helped us with luggage, made sure we were happy with room and left us to settle in. This friendly nature was a feature throughout our stay, and Yannis even sorted a birthday cake for my daughter for which he refused to take payment (though we made sure the tip jar got a healthy top up!) Nothing was too much trouble, he was happy to order taxis, sat and played card games with the kids when he had a spare 10 mins, and was happy to impart info on the local area.
The rooms were basic but clean, and very spacious. Aircon was 7 euros a day and fantastically effective. Minor issue on 1 day when the drainage hose was blocked and water dripped out but it was reported and sorted same day with no quibbles.
Extra pillow on request, really, really good water pressure on the shower. My only minor issue would be that the shower could do with a wall mount rather than being hand held. Loads of storage for clothes.
Pool area very clean, lots of loungers and plenty of seating in the shade. The food was brilliant and really reasonably priced. Gyros for 3.50! A basic menu but that's more than enough when relaxing by the pool.
On a main road but traffic noise not really an issue, bus stops to Faliraki and Rodos just a a couple of minutes walk, likewise for Lindos. About a 20min walk to Faliraki itself but a supermarket and plenty of places to eat just down the road aswell as lots of car/bike hire places.
Friendly, clean and made us feel very welcome from minute 1. It's basic but rooms are spacious and clean. We will be looking to return. WiFi also functioned in the rooms and not just the bar area which was a massive bonus...
Read moreThis is a lovely, friendly, family run Apart-hotel. We were welcomed by Lennie the Manager with a cold bottle of water, quickly checked in with no fuss and shown to our room which was spotlessly clean and well maintained. Katina Studios have 3 buildings, some rooms faced the pool and others had glorious views across the hills or towards Faliraki. The pool and safe toddler pool had plenty of sun beds and umbrellas and there are well maintained grass areas and nice planting. There is a bar area with space to sit in the shade or sun and a good size TV and pool table. Internet, wow! Katina has recently had a new Mesh Wi-Fi system installed and in all locations we tried we had an ‘Excellent’ signal. In fact it was reliable and strong enough for Zoom calls. Katina would be a perfect location to have a working holiday, a couple of hours working on the balcony and the afternoon in the sun. The small kitchen in our room was sufficient for our needs and we cooked a few meals (we could have done with a few more cooking pots but made do with what we had). Fridge, kettle etc. were new and functioned well. We took the opportunity to buy a Greek coffee pot for fresh coffee – everything we needed was available in ΚΡΗΤΙΚΟΣ Supermarket and Katina has a menu for breakfast and snacks. The location was good for us as we used the bus system to explore the Island, bus stops in either direction are only a few minutes away. Yes, there is some traffic noise but that was offset by peaceful nights with no music from noisy bars or drunks walking past in the small hours. The walk to the beach was a pleasant 15 minutes and the Faliraki road train passes close by as it drives up Asklipiou and back towards the beach on Poseidous roads so the main Faliraki ‘strip’ and beaches are easy to access. Anthony Quinn bay is 30 – 45 minutes easy walk. We would stay with Katina again, good value, clean rooms, a stunning view and good company from both...
Read moreWhat a wonderful fortnight we have had at this welcoming little place.||Having travelled the Greek Islands in the 90s, I was fully aware of what a 2/3 apartment complex would be like and Katina Studios was exactly that. Fairly basic rooms and amenities. ||However, the wonderful Greek welcome I experienced 30 years ago was surpassed by the welcome and service throughout the two weeks we were lucky enough to be guests of Yiannis and his family. Nothing was too much trouble.||There are three blocks to the complex and we were in the middle one. Overlooking the main road, but the noise wasn’t an issue (the cicadas and air con were louder lol). It’s a 6/7 minute walk to two supermarkets, ATMs and a handful of bars and restaurants. Faliraki beach and centre is just under a 20 minute walk.||Rooms are fairly basic, including kitchen facilities. Two rings and limited cooking utensils, so don’t expect to be able to cook much. However the kettle and fridge was enough for us. Air Con was essential given the extreme heat during our first week and wasn’t overly expensive. Rooms were cleaned every 3/4 days and were sufficient for the amount of time we spent in them (I asked for extra pillows and they were delivered within the hour).||WiFi is free and worked well in all areas. ||The pool area was nice and the pool never overly busy. The snack bar was really good and the service impeccable. I’ve attached a photo of the menu. Staff were happy to bring food to your sunned if you didn’t fancy sitting at the terrace.||But what cannot be expressed in words is the effort and service given by the staff. Nothing was too much trouble and they were happy to help with anything, from advice about Faliraki to arranging car hire, trips etc.||A lovely little...
