We are a young couple and we came here first with the ur parents and we have been for the past 5 years alone, we used to stay in expensive villas or 5 star accommodation but for the past 5 years we have stayed here 2-3 times a year. We always return to martina not because of the rooms or price as we would pay for 5 star but we pay 3x a year to come back to the staff! We have stayed in five star hotels and not got the service we receive every time we come to matina Starting from reception they do all they can to help, the pool bar redi and the gang make us feel like family so much so that my partner (dion) refuses to stay anywhere else, then to the restaurant, tsampika and Jeni an d George are like family and out the only reason we book half board. My boyfriend has s very fussy and they go out their way to make sure he has something to eat! And then the cleaner Maria is amazing! She goes out her was every holiday to make us feel special and comfortable as I don’t like people being around my belongings normally but she puts in the extra attention that makes us a book a 2 bedroom just to be in the block she cleans, overall we stay 3 times a year! It works out around )9’000 and we leave over £500 in tips including all the staff every time we come because it’s f the way we are treated by the staff, we could use the money to stay in a posh villa but it’s worth our money every time! Just proves that a well ran hotel and staff can be the difference to your holiday we have stayed In 5* hotels and they don’t...
Read moreWe stayed as a family of 4 in a 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment for 11 nights in August 2025. Firstly I'll start with the positives: The location is excellent, literally 1 min from the beach and 5 min to the main road where all the bars and restaurants are located. The staff at the hotel, particularly in the matina pool bar are super friendly. We were greeted by name every time we went which was a nice touch. The rooms are a good size for families. |Now for the negatives: the rooms are dated but generally clean, the bathrooms are grubby and we had a shower which didn't drain and wasn't fixed despite reporting the issue on the 2nd day. The sunbed situation is not good, all beds around the main pool and baby pool have been reserved by 7.00am. The situation is slightly better around the 2nd pool but still not great. The hotel seems to attract many return visitors. Many of the adults from different groups of families were regularly consuming alcohol whilst in the swimming pool which I find unacceptable. Lots of groups who seemed to know each other |were very loud (not a problem in itself) and were swearing whilst in conversation which again I find totally unacceptable when children are present. I just found this to be off putting and therefore wouldn't stay or recommend matina to anyone I know. I've visited many self catering hotels in greece and never had a problem before. If the drinking and swearing doesn't bother you then I'm sure you'll love this place. If like me it does, then maybe look for an...
Read moreWe stayed at the Matina for 9 nights in the school holidays as a family of 5. ||It’s not easy finding a room for 5 and we were pleased with the large apartment overlooking the quieter pool. It needed a little tlc but an issue we reported was fixed the following day. Reception very friendly and helpful. ||Our children enjoyed the pools. Both pools had lots of sunbeds reserved from 7am and if we went out in the morning there was no chance of getting a sunbed until late afternoon. But this is fairly common in most places in August. ||The beach is a couple of minutes walk away. Beautiful but completely filled with sunbeds and no room for towels. We like to spend an hour or two at the beach so it’s not worth paying 30 euros for 2 beds. (That was the price for the front row!) there are a couple of other smaller beaches though to visit. ||We loved the choice of tavernas nearby and enjoyed eating at a different one every evening. Our favourite bar was Happy Friends and we had a lovely lunch in there on our last day. They serve up the best cocktails and prices reasonable. ||We hired a car for the day from Marathon and drove to the big water park in Faliraki. We all had a great day out there and it suited our 5, 12 and 15 year olds. We also got the bus into Lindos (go early!) and walked up to the acropolis. We took the glass bottom boat trip too which was a nice couple of hours. ||EasyJet transfers were via minibus and on time and very efficient. Overall we had a great holiday and would recommend...
