I’ve just came back from a week at the Sun Beach Resort. Here’s what I’ve got to say about it.
Rooms - We stayed in the garden view area of the hotel, which is significantly less modernised than the beach view counterpart. I would say the garden view area is more of a 2 star than a 4 star. We stayed in a self catering studio, which was nice enough, but lacked some facilities, like a toaster and kettle (which one would assume essential for self catering), but the fridge/freezer was a good size and it was pretty cold. Also when we arrived our room did not have a TV, but one did arrive a few days later (unfortunately not a smart TV, and not many English tv channels). The beds were reasonably comfortable, but they only provided one pillow each, and the pillows were very soft, so not the most comfortable. The bathroom was quite dated, and the tap to turn off/on the shower fell off. Also, the temperature of the toilet water was roasting and it was like a steam room for your bottom. The hairdryer is also terrible so I’d recommend bringing your own. But water pressure was good. The towels are pretty small, but clean towels were provided everyday, and they were nice and soft. The balcony area was quite small, but had a nice view. The room was clean on arrival and kept clean throughout the holiday thanks to the lovely cleaners. Overall, the room was clean, decent size but did lack a few features. Would definitely say not a 4 star room.
Pool Area / Beach - There are 3 pools to choose from. We stayed at the pool in the garden view area most days, as it was impossible to get a sun lounger at the adults only infinity pool. You would have to go pretty early to get yourself a sun lounger at that pool, as by 9.30 they were already reserved. Very disappointing as this was a selling feature of the hotel. However the pool in our area was kept clean, was a good size so it never felt crowded, it was reasonably easy to get a sun lounger, however not all sun beds are in the sun all day as the area can become quite shady in the afternoon. There was activities on everyday around the pool and music, the staff seemed friendly enough but the music was quite loud. My only real complaint with the pool is I wish the water was deeper. The beach was only an option, which was lovely. You had to pay €5 for a sun lounger but you got to stay on this all day. The water was lovely too. I’d recommend bringing water shoes though as it is pebbly and quite difficult to get in and out of the water.
Location - The hotel is in a great location, and a short walk from many lovely restaurants, bars, and shops. It’s also right on the beach which was fabulous. It’s also a short walk from a Main Street where you can catch a public bus to take you to different places on the island. The hotel also offers a bus service to take you to and from Rhodes for only €4 which was fantastic and very useful.
Hotel in General - Overall, the hotel was nice and I probably would come back if I could find a good enough deal. The area around the hotel was nice, the beach was lovely. There is plenty to do around the area. However the room lets down the rest of the hotel, and it definitely needs some...
Read moreWe stayed at Sun Beach Resort for our honeymoon, and while the resort overall carries a 4-star rating, the experience varies dramatically depending on which part you stay in. We were initially shown to Sun Beach 1, which felt modern, well-maintained, and truly deserving of its 4-star status. However, we were then abruptly told by staff to move to Sun Beach 2—a completely different building that is nowhere near the same standard. Finding this in the dark was not great when we had been travelling for nearly 12 hours!
Sun Beach 2 is much older, darker, poorly lit, and features dated, rusty, and tired furnishings. The room we stayed in was poorly maintained, with daily ant problems and a barely functioning hairdryer. Cleanliness efforts were made but could not make up for the overall tired state of the accommodations. The description of Sun Beach 2 as the “garden wing” is very misleading—it is in fact a separate, standalone hotel building with a different reception and far lower standards than Sun Beach 1.
The difference extends to amenities and food quality as well. While Sun Beach 1 had lovely cocktails and better service, Sun Beach 2’s food was plentiful but low quality for some things, but had beautiful lamb!, and the same cocktails were poorly made and took an excessive amount of time to arrive. In addition, some staff at Sun Beach 2 were rude, while others, like Melpo, were friendly and helpful and would recommend her to speak to!
Jet2 needs to label Sun Beach 1 and Sun Beach 2 as two separate hotels rather than market Sun Beach 2 as just a wing of the resort. Many guests, including ourselves, feel seriously misled by this. If Sun Beach 1 is what a 4-star resort should be, then Sun Beach 2 falls closer to 3-star quality.
Honestly, the best moments of our honeymoon were when we were away from Sun Beach 2, making memories around Rhodes and across at Sun Beach 1 rather than being upset by the dusty, outdated, and disappointing accommodation in number 2. For anyone booking this resort, please be aware — the “garden wing” whilst part of the main resort is a separate, and somewhat inferior property that does not live up to the advertised standards.
This misleading representation needs to be corrected, and Jet2 should be transparent about the huge difference in quality between these two parts of the Sun Beach Resort.
Just to reiterate my issue is with Jet2 NOT the hotel as Jet2 advertised this! As stated some very lovely staff and lovely experiences, just a few niggles.
EDIT: the room you showed my husband was the exact same?? So it was turned down for that reason, also I do not know of being offered upgrading to the other ? When was this? Who mentioned this and to whom??
I have altered my feedback slightly, as was intended for a 4 star review, not 3, so apologies there!
Also, I would come back here.. I'd just avoid...
Read moreI have never written a review for a hotel before but I felt as though this needed to be said for anyone wanting to stay in this hotel as it is falsely advertised both on the sun beach resort website and the easyjet website. When arriving to the sun beach resort we were met with a beautiful looking hotel and reception area just to be told that we were in the other part of the hotel (a completely different hotel across the street) at first I didn’t think much just that it was a slight downgrade and a bit rundown, but when arriving to our room I was sorely dissatisfied and felt as though I had been conned into paying a luxury price for a less than 3 star hotel. The hotel room was crammed, along with the small outdated bathroom with a dirty shower mat, the air con was also making a racket all night, making it very hard to sleep. I wasn’t happy but decided to wait till the next morning as we were late arriving and I wanted to see how I felt the next day. The next morning I went out to the balcony and was further angered by the ‘garden view’ and was shocked with how exposed it was. There was very little privacy and it felt very intrusive when neighbours next door were peering into my balcony as there was barely a wall to separate the apartments. Furthermore, from the lift you could see into everyone’s room as the balcony’s felt very exposed. Breakfast was standard but was not the view I had paid for as the photos on the website are misleading. After still feeling unhappy I went to speak to reception and was met with hostile staff that had quite an attitude with me and who kept cutting me off when I tried to tell them what was wrong. She sent to me to guest relations in which I had to wait 40 minutes to speak to someone and was again met with an attitude (I suspect they get this complaint a lot) she was quite condescending and rude when I was discussing my complaints until I told her about my brother stepping on a tile that looked as though it had a deep enough drop in which he could have cut his leg on. She then offered us a room in the ‘beach wing’ (the nice hotel pictured on the website) for a discounted rate of €20 a night. My family and I agreed to pay, so in total it was €120 extra but we got a nicer view, a modern room and breakfast with a view so agreed as we just wanted the drama of our holiday to be over and to relax. When booking this hotel they try and tell you there is a beach wing and a garden wing but they are in fact two different hotels with two different standards. One is a 4 star hotel the other is definitely not, I enjoyed the rest of my stay but will certainly not be back as there are nicer hotels for a...
