Room: AC is not working from October on, we had very hot night in October with a baby, and window open, we got bitten by lots of moskitos. Reception gave us a fan as the room centralized fan was kind of useless. Toilet water is not refilling correctly in the room. Water drainage from the sink is leaking on the bathroom floor. Half bottom part of the fridge door is black from mold because of the door not closing correctly, and so the fridge is never cold. The whole room/hotel looks like not refreshed for the past 30 years at least.

Rest of the hotel: The food is of the lowest quality and taste in a hotel we have ever experienced… and we honestly do not understand the good reviews. Most of the food is from cans and not fresh at all. There is very little choice of fruits, all deserts are pre-made frozen catering. One evening, one of the kitchen worker refilled the mash potatoes tray directly from a huge can… the food was the biggest negative point for us in this hotel. Same as the room, the hotel looks very old. The elevator really needs to be replaced, everyone was annoyed. Extremely slow and squeezing people entering as they are not even detecting people passing. Dangerous with the kids! Not possible to eat (breakfast, lunch or dinner) outside from the main restaurant, only the snack bar and cafeteria (bar) have an outside sitting area. The pool is opening at 10am which we find quite late and we are awake at 7am. They don’t have any good coffee machine. Coffee from the main restaurant buffet is tetrapack pre-mixed coffee, we saw it being refilled (tastes like bad instant coffee). Wanted to get myself a good coffee from the snack bar and pay extra for it : they had only “caps” coffee.

Around the hotel: It’s a rocky beach and very windy and wavy (wind/kitesurf might be possible that as well was closed) Airplanes are passing just above the hotel making it impossible to nap outside or windows open Around the hotel is super touristic, shops and restaurants are made for tourists and the food quality is not great, but visiting further away you can find great restaurants. End of October, lots of shops, restaurants and hotels were closed for the winter already. Was a bit feeling like a ghost town.

Recommended restaurants around: Philerimos Gitonia

We do not understand the amount of good reviews fo this hotel. The customers are mainly Germans and British, 60+, and maybe the food quality is not an issue for most of them. The hotel is rated 4 stars (local) - this is a joke.

The positive point was the very nice people working in the hotel, cleaning ladies and at...

I give 2* because 3* is already more than what the overall experience deserves.

The employees are super friendly and polite and work really hard to give you a good service.

We stayed there July 2020 and they did their best to keep Corona measures. Where the hotel is located is not bad, although the short (15min drive) to airport makes it noisy with every few hours a plane landing/departuring. In the nearby streets (walking distance) we found mainly deactive/abandoned shops and hotels; a few small active shops and a supermarket just in front of hotel, which is a plus.

I think after 1986 when the hotel was made no serious renovation or investment was done. The toilet siphon was SO loud and LONG that we had to plan when we siphone to go out and not stand all the noise. The bathtub was pretty narrow, in a way that every time I moved a LITTLE BIT not paying attention, I bumped my elbow to the wall really hard (and I am not a big person at all!) It was also pretty round in the bottom part, so you can only stand with the feets perfectly paired together, or stand partly on the wall of the bathtub!! 🙄 A real bummer as you enter is the old dirty carpets of the aisles, totally unhygienic!

They clean the rooms and bed pretty good though. Somehow extremely clean! I mean there is no need to exchange the whole bedset after one night that we slept in that, is it?? 🤔

We had Breakfast and Dinner. The Breakfast was OK but the dinner quality and variation were incredibly disappointing! I had to waste a lot of food because it was either too salty, tooooo oily, too hard, too fried/burned, or somehow found a way to taste bad anyway! One of the very few things they were good at was the bologna souce, that also was "tasteless" once in a while. It is simply a huge waste of cooking material they are doing. In an island like that you expect some good sea food but you get 0 good ones at these dinners. The worst, we had unfortunately booked 10-11 nights and the food does not change a bit !!!!

The sweets were really good. SPECIALLY the baklava! They had a few different ones sometimes and all were super yummy.

We could smell the old fried oil from 11:00 (from snack bar) when we were laying beside the pool and there was no scape from that.

The hotel is beside the beach but for using the benches on the beach area you have to...

I went for 1 week with my girlfriend .. we got the all inclusive package.

The hotel is fairly decent , not a resort .. so don't go expecting that .

A bit old construction and layout , but super clean and well maintained . I believe your overall vacation experience is determined a bit by what you make of it . Me and my gf had a great time .. the beach right in front of the hotel is super nice .. sand at first but more rocky towards the water ( bring some sort of water shoes or something because going in barefoot is very painful) ... beautiful turquoise colors and warm sea.

The beach is very windy , which is why it is full of windsurfers .. but the wind is great to escape the heat.

regarding the hotel itself i will give my pros and cons list as objective as i can

PROS:

Very clean and hygienic specially with Corona standards Food was quite good ( all inclusive breakfast , lunch and dinner). The waiters serve you the food because of COVID measures .. which in my opinion is better .. that way there isn't that much food waste. Great beach location Very friendly staff Nice AC in the room (neccesary ) with big terrace , sadly wasn't facing the sea. Entertainer is very friendly and does day activities by the pool and some nice karaoke/song events at night The beer glass is refrigerated so it comes icy cold ... makes all the difference!

CONS:

Morning Coffee is from a machine , very watery and for me undrinkable. Same goes for the juices You have to pay 3€ a day for the sunbeds .. imo should definitely be included after you pay for the all inclusive package Beer and wine also watery and not really good beds super stiff and not really comfy Tennis raquets they lend you are disgusting, all broken and bent .. and tennis balls all worn out. Not so important .. but seems like an easy to fix detail that at least in me left a bad impression. Tennis court is quite decent .. not much people reserve it

Overall I give 3/5 because i think they could easily improve with some minor details .. but still in the end i had a great time , beach was great and super...

Blue Horizon Hotel – A Comfortable and Scenic Stay in Ialyssos Staying at the Blue Horizon Hotel in Ialyssos is an excellent choice for travelers seeking comfort, convenience, and breathtaking sea views. Booking a sea-view room ensures stunning vistas and a serene atmosphere. The rooms are impeccably clean, with daily room service available upon request, ensuring a fresh and welcoming environment throughout your stay. The hotel's staff is exceptional—always ready to assist with any questions or requests, making guests feel truly valued. The dining experience is diverse, catering to various dietary preferences, with juice and coffee included in breakfast. While dinner drinks require a separate purchase unless you opt for the all-inclusive package, the prices for beverages, including imported beer and the wine selection, are reasonable. The waiters deliver outstanding service with warmth and friendliness. Accessibility is well thought out, with wheelchair-friendly amenities ensuring a comfortable stay for all guests. Even during unexpected circumstances, like experiencing a 5.8-magnitude earthquake, the hotel maintains a safe and secure environment. Beyond the hotel, a plethora of activities awaits. From excursions and shuttle services to pre-booked adventures, there’s no shortage of experiences to explore. Car rentals are conveniently available at the Alfa Car desk inside the hotel, located near the entrance. One point to consider is the tourist tax of €10 per day, which may feel a bit high, so it’s best to factor that into your budget. Overall, Blue Horizon Hotel offers a fantastic stay with excellent service, great food, and mesmerizing views. A highly recommended destination!

We’ve just come back from a lovely week at Blue Horizon. We had a Standard Room with a sea view and got to watch the sunrise every morning. The beach at the hotel is also perfect for watching sunrise and sunset. There was entertainment every evening except Sunday. Samy and Ben were great- they ran everything from daytime water sports to a fire show at night. Aqua aerobics was our favourite. We’d read some reviews about people struggling to get sunbeds by the pool, but we didn’t have any issues at all. And although planes fly overhead often, it didn’t bother us. The hotel is close to the airport, so you’ll hear planes wherever you stay in the area. The room was cleaned daily and always felt fresh. The food was great too, though the dinner service could’ve been better. The drinks system was a bit all over the place, and a few of the staff came across as stressed or abrupt. We also checked in really late due to a delayed flight, and the night receptionist wasn’t very welcoming, which wasn’t the best first impression. One thing that could definitely be improved is how they share info about what’s going on at the hotel. There was one small board with events listed, but it was easy to miss. It would be helpful to have posters in the lifts or around the hotel, and maybe some info in the rooms about amenities and useful numbers. The location is great- there are lots of shops nearby and a shuttle bus to Rhodes Town that’s €8pp return. Overall we had a great time. The hotel just needs a few small improvements, especially when it comes to communication and service.
