We have been back a week now from Sun Palace and this was our 3rd visit in the last 7 years. We are all missing it so very much. Check in was easy, every time I spoke to reception, everyone was very pleasant and helpful. Our room was above the burger house which was absolutely incredible and spacious. I had emailed the hotel a couple of days before travelling for this room and they very kindly accepted the request. The extra couple of minutes walk was absolutely worth it staying there. We always felt at ease staying there. Calling reception was easy to do and they were incredibly helpful over the phone. The cleaning staff were very friendly and kind. There was 6 of us and all of us found food that we enjoyed everyday, over the 2 weeks we were there, there was one day that we had to wait a few minutes for plates. However this was also peak dining time. They do have a sign on the door as you go in the restaurant giving details of the times when the restaurant is their most busiest if you wanted to avoid those peak times. We found the restaurant hosts to be very kind and friendly, and the waiting staff to be kind and friendly also. The main pool was very good with animation during the day doing activities that made it fun for those wanting to join in. The waterpark was incredible, yes some of the paint colour has faded, but the heat that they get in Faliraki, it’s not surprising that the colour has faded. Not once did the colour of paint change our perspective of the waterpark. We enjoyed everything there, especially the lazy river! Buy an inflatable ring from Sophia’s shop over the road, brilliant prices and amazing friendly staff too. If you don’t intend on hiring a car then Sophia’s is the place to go for all of your excursions. The evening entertainment and animation team were excellent. They treated our children with respect and were super fun to be around. They are kind, compassionate and kept our children active and entertained, so much that we never had an issue with them falling asleep. Our son who takes melatonin to help him sleep at night, only needed 2 nights with half his usual dose during our 2 week stay. Our best entertainment evening was the mister muscle evening. We laughed so hard on this evening, even the kids, we all laughed so hard that our cheeks. The kids also went in the play park in the evenings, for the time we went, it was a bit too warm during the day and the kids wanted to be in the pool instead.|We rented a car whilst there and the places we visited were; the Sea Park on Faliraki beach, renting a boat for the day with “rock my boat” on Faliraki beach, my husband has a boat licence so we were able to get one of the faster boats however we have also got the non licence boats on our previous visits and equally had just as much fun. I definitely recommend at least half a day to make the most of it. We also visited the little rescue aquarium a few minutes walk down the road, the owner was so helpful! We went to Valley of the butterflies and had a great time. We went to Rhodes aquarium which was lovely, then we went on a glass bottom boat which was brilliant! We went over the road onto the beach which was just so beautiful. Sun beds were 20euro for 2 with a parasol. We visited Kallithea Springs which was absolutely stunning, only gripe there was the cost of the sun beds, 50 euro for down on the beach. At the top 50 euro for the front row, 40 for the second row and 30 for third row. If we hadn’t already unloaded and got the kids settled we could have easily gone on the 30euro beds but we had already set up with snorkels and had 2 kids in the water with an adult and 2 kids on the sun loungers with an adult with kids eager to get in the water so we just sucked it up as a hard lesson that day. Incredible views from this place, I absolutely recommend going for snorkelling also. We had a walk into Faliraki looking in the shops of an evening, then went to the play park on the beach in Faliraki whilst we waited for the little light up road train. It can drop you off at Sun Palace hotel if you ask which is very handy! We visited Farma of Rhodes which is amazing, little cups of food are 2 euro each, I think we spent around 30 euro for 6 of us to feed the animals in the end. Our kids loved feeding the animals, we spent a good whole day there and definitely recommend. We also got dressed up one evening and used the hotel photographer to have some family photos, you can ask to have them outside by the pool, we did with the sun starting to set and they came out stunning! My husband and eldest son went on a little trail to climb up the mountain right at the back of the hotel, they had a great walk! About a 5 minute walk from Sun palace there is a place called Sky Park, they had mini golf, trampolines, soft play, arcade, bowling, mini golf karts. It was brilliant here, definitely an evening thing as it’s too hot during the day. It’s lit up beautiful in the evenings. We definitely recommend visiting Sun palace and it has stolen our hearts and feels like a second home that we want to go back to already! We will...
Read moreI'd like to start out by saying that reading the reviews of Sun palace meant that my partner and I attended with some reservations and fairly low expectations... if you are expecting a 5* experience for a 3* price then you will be dissapointed.|To be helpful ill address some of the most frequently raised issues and try and give a level headed, fair review.|FOOD: there is a massive variety, a few different cuisines and subtle changes on an evening by evening basis (if you genuinley believe that there isnt sufficent variety then you are likey the issue). The food is very edible, never had a problem with upset stomachs or the temperature of the food. Never had an issue getting plates or Cutlery, on the one occasion they had ran out of bowls for what was likely a brief moment one breakfast, I simply asked a member of staff for one and they graciously fetched me one.||STAFF: some are more friendly than others- 2 cleaners in particular were so lovely, greated us every morning without fail and loved if you made an effort with the language. Same barmen every night and were always in good spirits considering. General staff in the restaurant were all very pleasant and reception were fine too.||ROOMS: this one is probably more open to criticism given there are clearly some rooms in need of an overhaul and some that are fine.|We were in room 252 in the main building and honestly the only slight annoyance was the lack of hot water in the evening (early morning shower was usually fine). Room was basic but clean and presentable (and AC worked ok); given we only used the room as a base, we were more than happy.||LOCATION: stones throw from Faliraki which is very much a party town, went there once and it was a typical tourist town. Hotel is just set back from the main road which has a great bus link going to either faliraki or Rhodes old town (roughly every 20 mins).||POOLS: during days that we spent at the hotel, we always went over to the water park section of the 'resort'. Always sunbeds available, absolutely no issues there. Yes the pools could do with a bit of elbow grease in areas a little more love in others, but seemed clean enough (again no upset stomachs from ingested pool water).||ACTIVITIES: if you've made it this far then it must be because you found this genuinely informative, so thanks!|So, it's a TUI resort, but flip do they take the michael with the prices for excursions. Bin them off altogether and go over the road to 'Sophias travel'. After speaking to the wonderful owners (family run) you will absolutely be taken in by their charm and (maybe like us) even be happy to pay more than TUI charge just because of how wonderful they were. Incidentally, they were MASSIVELY cheaper! We worked out that on the excursions that we did, we saved around 40% in total vs TUI... I get that the reps need to make something on commission but stuff their over inflated prices!!!|Sophias Travel will also make completely unbiased recommendations based on you as people and they were spot on with everything... recommendations from us and them are as follows:|Symi Island trip- stunning place, worth every penny, very 'santorini' vibes.|Lindos by boat- essentially a day trip to lindos (south from Faliraki) with a couple of swim stops on the return leg.|Greek Night - absolutely our highlight, perfect if youd love to learn a little about the Greek culture, wonderful food, traditional Greek dancing and just wonderful people running the joint.|RHODES old town- Sophias travel actually recommended that we got the bus here and DIDNT do the guided tour as it was expensive and rushed. So we got the bus their and did everything at our own pace.|KALLITHEA SPRINGS: stunning scenery, lovely little beach and little restaurant which did surprisingly good food! Was also accessible by the same bus to Rhodes town (stop on the route).||On the whole it was a great holiday and considering it was the first time In Greece for my other half, she and I would happily return, but just to a different part of the island (try...
Read moreA few reviews very nearly put us off our holiday but we are glad we decided to see for ourselves.
Sun Palace is quite simply amazing - especially for families. Even close to what we would consider the 'closed season' these guys do not take their foot off the pedal.
Some of the pros:-
Restaurant - food was extremely enjoyable and a huge variety with some themed evenings. If you can't find something you like I would seriously ask yourself if you are too hard to please because there is something for everyone. Even the desserts are changed up every night.
Snack bars - food was okay and edible. It isn't gourmet but they are catering for 100s of people. We ate there every day and there was always something to eat. The one near the waterpark I found was better than the other.
Drinks - they are not watered down lol. Be careful! The bar staff, especially Maria and Kostas are lovely. They work extremely hard and always have a smile.
Animation Team - they work tirelessly all day. Artur is so funny and got me extremely drunk during one of the evening's adult games lol. I will think of him every time I hear the word 'Yamas'! Lol!! There are games for both the children and adults throughout the day at the main pool (not the pool near the waterpark). We were never bored. Be aware music is played daily here so if you prefer more relaxation I would recommend the other pool.
Waterpark - this was amazing. We had so much fun here. Towels are provided also which I think is really good.
Rooms - basic but do the job. Room service is amazing and we had someone attend daily to turn down our beds and provide fresh towels. We had a small ant problem but this can't be helped. We ended up adopting the small army in our room and left them to their own devices lol!! They didnt bother us in the slightest. Shower was out of this world. I recommend early showers as the water does seem to get cooler towards the evening but still warm (I do like my showers blazing hot lol).
Waiting Staff in Restaurant - these people work SO hard. Some of them are literally there all day. The restaurant manager is so lovely and helpful. Nicos could not do enough for us. Always found our party of 10 a table. I will say that just giving them a small tip every other day really makes their day. What they do is a thankless job and frankly some people are absolutely RUDE and dont use manners nor attempt to clean up after themselves. Yes the waiting staff are there to serve but they're human beings at the end of the day. Thank you for your hard work!
Reception - check in was smooth and staff polite and courteous.
Okay - so cons:-
Onsite shop was V expensive. However the hotel is on the main strip and there are plenty of shops to shop around at.
Hotel itself could do with a revamp in some areas. For instance the bannister up to the block with the Greek restaurant was very loose and could cause an accident. However, I can't really fault much else.
Sun beds needs looking at. Some were pretty worn and broken. We always found one to use but the broken and worn ones need fixing or removing before someone could hurt themselves.
It pains me to say but I saw some bar staff smoking behind the bar. I know it is a smoking hotel in places but basic hygiene to me says you shouldn't really do it where beverages are served. That's just my personal opinion, sorry.
Phone in our room didnt work. Not too much bother but when our electric went out (my fault) I couldnt call anyone to help me lol.
Entertainment - in my opinion and that of our party, the adult entertainment starts way too late. The childrens disco finishes around 9.30pm I believe (or that is when the Bingo starts) but by then we are starting to get tired. I think the children's disco should finish earlier and the evening entertainment should begin sooner. Again, just our opinion.
Aside from that, we literally had the BEST time ever, we really did. We would highly recommend Sun Palace and will defo be back!...
