Hotel Alkyon — Hotel in Municipality of Sfakia

Arrived here without a booking. They had one free room which the owner was reluctant to show us because he was embarrassed that it didn't have a great view. Not sure why as it was exactly what we were looking for. The room is described as 'with balcony' rather than 'with sea view' but as the photos show we could easily see the sea. Room was simply furnished in true greek style with twin beds, a refrigerator, brand new and highly efficient air conditioning (a necessity in the 34° heat!), bedside tables, dressing table, wardrobes and ample electrical sockets. First of all, the view of the harbor is amazing after you over the storage room of mattresses with the door open . It does not cost anything to close the door. The room had ants and not just a few. The glasses left in the bathroom were filthy and had hair in them. It would have been better not to have any drinking glasses. The shower nozzle was only hand held and it was filthy. There was no hot water and only very light water pressure. Guess that was good since the water was so cold. The personnel was not only unfriendly, but gruff and rude. Would never...

Simple clean rooms, low price, good value for money. Air-condition, fridge and TV all good. I read previous reviews about rude staff, but we didn't encounter any rudeness. Savros was polite. It's probable that they saw the previous negative reviews and decided to improve. Perhaps they could improve the WiFi reception with some WiFi extenders.

Other than that it's a simple 2 star hotel, so people who expect 5 star extravaganza are...
