A fantastic stay in one of the best hotels in Perissa, with lovely friendly staff, particularly Dimitra on Reception who seems to know everything. She has plenty of tips for walks or buses- timetable available. Public transport is cheap. 2.5 euros as ALL buses go to Fira for transfer. To Oia for example would be a further 2 euros. The 'Bus Station' is a chaotic piece of waste ground with a small information desk. The toilet next door is 1 euro for basically a coal bunker with a squat hole -just so you know - go to a café instead! The hotel rooms are all varied. We got a larger room than booked with a small 'whirlpool' in a walled courtyard, sun trap but no view. All very clean with a strong hot shower although no shelves to put toiletries and the hairdryer is not very powerful. The bed was huge and comfy and we had no complaints although our room was pretty basic for a 4 star, we felt. There is a large breakfast room or you can eat outside near the pool with a view of the mountains. A great selection at breakfast, served till 10am and unlimited coffee. The pool is large, clean and no bother getting a sunbed, in May, although these are wooden and tired. The pool is protected from the wind by the stunning palm trees, very restful. Andrei runs the pool bar/café and is a top class guy, playing great music all week too. Check out was 11am but you could use the gym to shower and change if you are later. Check in was a faff as you had to log on to the Wi-Fi to then scan a QR code and then fill in a form and then, queue up to scan your passport and pay the tourist tax. There were at least a dozen people in Reception with all their bags, tired from the flight and transfer and all trying to look for glasses and fill out forms standing up, searching in bags and only Dimitra to sort us oldies out with the tech. Very little seating and no welcome drinks either so this could be improved. I would suggest to not go half board as this entails eating in the same local restaurant, the Atlantis quite near looking out to sea every night, not the Hotel. The food was good and generous but the selection available to the Hotel guests was limited unless you wanted to pay a supplement. (1,2,3 euros etc which was decided on a whim depending what the waiter felt like!) It is not the best value choice as there are loads of different cultural dining experiences along the main beachside street, to suit all budgets. Some restaurants closed at 9pm in May and it was already dark with no streetlights. It did get cooler too. There is a Sand train that travels the full length of the town, beyond the next town and on to the Marina. It was 8 euro return. Regarding the TUI trips, these are very expensive given the cheap buses. The Hotel can provide similar and they give a 20% discount on top so it is worth comparing prices. Some saved 20 euros each on a catamaran trip. We did the Tui 'Simply Santorini' and it was poor, not much to see ,very rushed , bus 30 mins late, although the wine tasting was in a quality establishment. Get the bus to Oia to see the sunset, there is a good view without the crowds from the roadside near the car park, just walk along to the sea view! Be aware that Fira and Oia are totally packed when the cruise ships are in and nowhere is a smoke free zone. Water is bottled but half a euro for 1.5 litres in the supermarket practically next door. The Meltemi cocktail bar is actually next door and has live music and entertainment on certain nights, maybe every night in high season? It has a good atmosphere and the Tui welcome meeting was held there. All in all we had a great time and say thank you to all the staff who kept the...
Read moreJust returned from a wonderful stay at Meltemi Village. Booked an easyjet package which worked well.|The Meltemi is a lovely hotel and all the staff are so friendly and helpful.|We had a studio room for three friends sharing. It was fairly compact but had a nice big balcony. There is a safe and air-conditioning free of charge. The air-conditioning runs on a separate keyfob so it is always nice and cool when you return to the room. |Breakfast is 8am - 10am with a good choice. |The pool bar is open until 6pm, I think food until 3pm.|Two pools. The main one with music and small one towards the back of the complex is quiet. We stayed in August and there were plenty of sunbeds everyday. People use the beach or come and go on day trips. Pool towels are provided for free, you just sign in and out. |The Meltemi is in a good spot with lots of bars and restaurants outside and a five minute walk to the beach. The beach is black volcanic sand but one of the best on the island. They do charge for sun loungers on the beach. 20€ for two beds and an umbrella. There are plenty of people just sitting on towels on the beach. Apollon restaurant offered us free sunbeds if we brought a couple of drinks so if you are going to have a couple of beers then might be worth it.||We did a day trip / boat trip around the islands and finished in Oia for the sunset. A very long day but worth it. We also did the local hike from the hotel up to the ancient Thira ruins. A ten minute walk from the hotel to the mountain base and then 40 minutes up hill to the top. Great views! It is a scrambly path though so you do have to be careful with your footing but very achievable unless you have any hip, knee problems. We left the hotel at 7.30am and got back at 9.45am in time for breakfast.||Perissa is a lovely town. It felt very safe with lots of families, couples and friends. Not really a place for large groups looking for club nights but if your happy with an evening meal on the beach and a couple of bars after then I would recommend it. ||Meal prices on the beach are around 15€ and probably 10€ on the hotel road. |Drinks in the beach are around 5€ for a beer or wine and 12€ for a cocktail. |We had a night cap every night in Dorians bar opposite the hotel which was 3€ big beer, 2€ wine or 7€ cocktail.||We will definitely return to...
Read moreJust came back from the best Greek Island holiday we have had. The hotel is 4* and is what it should be. Had a slight problem on day 1 but they straight away sorted it and we ended up in a better room as they upgraded us. The staff are the nicest friendliest people we have had on holiday. Nothing was ever a problem for them, they were always cheerful/happy and would do anything you asked. The older gentleman who sweeps and cleans around the pools, English isn't good but he would always try and communicate, he is the sweetest gentleman around. We did leave him a tip as I can only imagine that he wouldn't get much from anyone unlike the waiters/waitresses/cleaners etc but he worked hard around the gardens etc. The rooms were cleaned daily as they say, always fresh towels etc. It's a fairly small hotel, breakfast was always lovely, and the best thing was no one rushed for a sun bed. You could get up and have breakfast and still get sun beds after 10am, some days there were always beds still left. They also have a quiet pool and again always sun beds there. The cost of drinks and snacks which were also very nice around the pool was not bad prices as you would normally pay at other hotels, everything reasonably priced. Santorini is definitely an Island I would recommend, we went in to Firo and was expecting to pay a lot more for meals, but again it was slightly more than Perissa but only probably another 20 euros for 2 and that was at some very nice restaurants overlooking the sea. Most meals in Perissa for 2 was around 40 euro's, that would be a main each maybe a starter between both and a dessert shared (for one person but shared), a beer, fresh squeezed orange juice's and sometimes a half bottle of wine, so where we had been told Santorini is very expensive it actually is not. Will definitely go back. Even in the airport when waiting to board, staff came around giving children a gift then adults a little...
