We traveled to Santorini with a 5 yrs old, and this was the best beach to take her but with extra caution. There is a combo of sand with volcanic rock and regardless if your kids know how to swim, I strongly recommend they wear a life jacket/vest/floatation device as the waves can be a bit strong and there is a very deep drop after several steps into the water. The main reason this beach got a 4 is because there are huge rocks when entering the water, where if you are not careful, you can really hurt yourself. Also, after the boueys, there is a very deep drop into the water. There are several restaurants along the path, and as long as you order a beverage or a meal, the use of chairs and umbrellas is free. We loved the food and service from The Volcano. There are also lots of shops to buy towels, beverages...
Read moreThis is my favorite beach in Santorini, and I gotta tell you, I almost went to every beach! and each one has a totally different experience! Located in the southern western part of the island, just behind the giant cliff of ancient Thira. This particular beach is famous for its black sand, unlike other beaches in the island, the sand here is softer, the water is clearer and more clean! It is huge, and therefore there is more than one area to use the beach! There is even free sun beds can you imagine!? Despite its beauty, It was quiet and very chilled at the time I visited it around 11 am. There were also plenty of spaces to park my ATV, and souvenir shops, and snack booths to grab a quick bite. Definetly recommend going there first, if you don't have enough time to visit the...

The coarse black sand beach may not be to everyone's taste but it doesn't whip up so much in the wind and brushes off easily 👍Take those shoes for getting in the sea as they were a godsend. Water is lovely and clean and not too cold in Early October and the resort was only 30% full so sunbeds were readily available and we scabbed on them every day without paying or consumption from the restaurant/bar. Every restaurant we went in was great and no real complaints on any food we had. Happy hour is your friend so use it when you can as drinks are fairly expensive. If you see one-eye the grey cat give him a stroke and...
