The hotel is set in a beautiful olive grove and has a sweet little shingle beach , now with added 'sails' for welcome shade, down some steep steps. We stayed there last year and enjoyed the Kalamitsi experience, hence our return. ||We had requested a studio nearest to the breakfast area because my husband has mobility issues and finds walking difficult, alas that was not to be, instead we ended up in the studio furthest from the main building. The room was smaller and only had a terrace at the back but it certainly did have the most gorgeous seaview.||The towels were great, clean, thick and huge and beach towels are provided. The bathroom was rather compact and impractical, the towel rail set so high that short people like me can barely reach it and there was not a lot of shelving (some of it can only be reached when the door is closed). A huge wardrobe, a desk and a small table and two chairs were useful.||There was a large bottle of water in the fridge and the room was clean and recently repainted. The drying rack on the terrace is also a thoughtful addition. Single beds pushed together are not our favourite sleeping arrangement (we're strictly double bed people) but they were comfortable.||There was a hob, a good-sized fridge with freezer compartment and a coffee maker (bring your own supplies if you intend to make coffee) and car parking right outside.||Our previous studio had mosquito nets on all windows but not this one. Fortunately we were not bothered (and a mosquito plug is helpfully provided in the room) but this may be an issue at some times of year if you like sleeping with the windows open.||Wifi was adequate. Breakfast included some lovely home-made jams, cakes and pies but could have done with some 'grown up' cereals such as bircher muesli. Filter coffee only.||It's a dog-friendly hotel, which is a huge plus point in our book and definitely worth staying in for its location, good breakfast and...
Read moreHad a really nice 3 night stay at this hotel. 💫The room was spacious with a nice big wardrobe, fancy bathroom and a balcony with a table and chairs and racks to dry my swimsuit. They also provided towels for the beach. There was also a fridge, a dressing table and a table with two chairs for my meals. 💫Breakfast was really tasty with many options to choose from. Everything was made of local ingredients. I really enjoyed the eggs and omelettes! Not much variety on vegetable/salad options other than chopped tomatoes but there were a few fruit options. The breakfast area also works as a restaurant and even though I didn't give it a go, the food must have been amazing judging from the breakfast quality. 💫It is 5 minutes walk from the local beach of Kalamitsi and 1 minute from a small part of it with pebbles and calm warm water. I really enjoyed an alone early swim as well as a late one without being pestered by the crowds of tourists that occupy most beaches in the area in August. The only disadvantage is that the small beach goes under shade around 7 so there's no sunset view but you can enjoy it from the public beach. 💫Best way to go around is on a car. If you don't drive there's a taxi in the area as well as local buses both ways 3 times a day.
❗An important thing to notice is that at the breakfast area you might face lots of bees. They don't bite but they might get in your way while eating. Keep an eye on and if you're allergic you can eat inside. Personally I didn't mind them cause I know they're everywhere at this time of the year and you can't really avoid them no matter...
Read moreIn mid-June 2025, we had an unforgettable eight-day stay at the Kalamitsi Hotel near Kardamyli, in Messenian Mani. All parts of this complex, situated in a lovely olive grove, are very tastefully built, respecting the local architectural tradition. (The famous Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor house is quite close by.) |The Kalamitsi Hotel offers views to die for, as well as private access to a magnificent secluded cove. Swimming in these pristine turquoise waters, surrounded by lush Mediterranean vegetation, which provides a rich habitat for swallows and other birds that fly or hover above you, was a delectable experience. |We had all our meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) at the hotel every day. Their cuisine is exceptional: they use the finest ingredients, and the food is really homemade and cooked to perfection. This is something VERY rare these days, and hence must be appreciated and commended upon. |Generally speaking, the establishment exuded tranquillity and a civilised ambience. |We would like cordially to thank the owners (the wonderful Ponireas family) and all staff members for their politeness and hospitality. We are planning to revisit soon and we wholeheartedly recommend the Kalamitsi Hotel. Trust us: we're very picky!|Best wishes,...
