I recently returned from the Ostria in Skiathos having stayed there for several years & can confirm that it is run by a lovely friendly family who always make their guests feel welcome. All the rooms are tastefully furnished & ours this year had recently been renovated to a very high standard. I noticed for the first time that guests were leaving towels on the bed in the morning. I think there were 2 reasons for this (1) a large family arrived & from day 1 were leaving their towels on the beds. We noticed that when we came back to the resort after an evening out, at about 1am, that the towels were already on the beds. Once they left it was easier to get a bed. (2) the resort used to include a free breakfast, but this year the pool bar was run by an independent family who had an advertising board on the main road so outsiders would come in for breakfast. When customers asked if they could use the pool they were told that they could, so therefore when the people staying at the resort tried to get a bed there were not many left. We went down on our 3rd day and found only 2 beds available. We spoke to 4 couples who were not staying at the Ostria. |Obviously this had a knock on effect, as people staying at the resort decided to get up early to make sure they had a bed by the pool. When we used to have a free breakfast we would go to the pool after breakfast, but there again only people staying at the Ostria would use the pool. I think people were putting their towels on the bed & then going back to their rooms for breakfast as all the rooms have kitchens. We complained that we weren't happy with the situation as there are only 20 beds and there are 23 apartments & were told that they were thinking of getting more beds as there is plenty of room on the grass for them.|We are going back next year as we love this resort & hopefully this situation will...
Read moreI believe that a holiday starts the moment you connect with your host and, as I booked Ostria through Booking.com, I received an e-mail confirmation from Booking (an automated one), but nothing from Ostria. I e-mailed them and I even phoned them and did that again after one or two weeks. I sent them another e-mail asking to confirm my reservation and asking details about the transportation. I only received info about transportation, but not about the reservation. It seemed awkward and I precisely asked them to confirm the reservation. Nothing. Then I phoned them again to check everything was ok. I was redirected to a lady - she told me "Don't worry, you will receive the confirmation, it's just that giving the Covid situation, we were closed and you will be our first clients, but it will be ok". So I trusted her. Two days before our check-in another lady calls me (joyfully) and tells me that they are closed and that they can arrange a booking for us to another place. We had two options, it's true, but we didn't like them - both of them had lower ratings on Booking.com and not great reviews. So it took us half a day to search (last minute) some other place to stay and to cancel our reservation at Ostria. The experience was horrible! It's not nice to have this mood before going in holiday! It would have been nice to tell me there are problems with the opening of the season from the moment I booked them so we could have the chance to choose something right for us from the beginning, not in the rush...
Read moreWe had an amazing trip to Hotel Ostria! The apartments were immaculately clean and beautifully decorated. They are set in idyllic surroundings. The pool is large and clean, and the gardens immaculate. There are lots of tavernas within walking distance. It is just a short walk to the beach and the bus stop is even closer which can take you to some lovely beaches and Skiathos town. Sofia was an exceptional host- she made us feel very welcome and helped us with booking taxis and any queries we had. ||The pool bar, ran by Tassos and his son, daughter and wife was excellent. They are incredibly kind people who are very easy to get along with and make you feel very welcome. The menu has a lovely variety including breakfast, delicious pizzas, salads and more. There is a happy hour every day from 4-6pm, and the cocktails are very tasty (especially the strawberry daiquiri)! Would highly recommend going to the Greek night every Sunday starting at 7.30pm which costs just €25 a person- the buffet is delicious, music excellent, and the dancing great to watch and get involved with. ||Overall, it was a 10/10 trip to Skiathos. We had an amazing time at Hotel Ostria and will definitely be back in...
