Olive Roots — Hotel in Thassos Municipality

TL;DR: We did not receive the apartment we booked for 1050 euros (7 night stay), owner insisted on lying to us that we had to request door for the main bedroom. Nowhere on the booking page does it specify that we need to request such thing. Rooms were clean and cleaning was done daily.

Story: We were a group of 8, in two separate apartments. One apartment was the one booked on Booking, the other one (Deluxe) was given to another group of people without any notice from the owner of Olive Roots (not even a message before our arrival). Due to this, we were given a free “upgrade” to the Superior apartment, that did not have any doors! The other Superior apartment with a door to the bedroom was not available I think. I told the owner that we booked the Deluxe apartment specialy for the door on the ground floor room, because we were a couple. The owner insisted and lied to me a couple of times (without even admitting he was lying in front of my face) that we had to specify that we wanted a DOOR to the room. Wait, I have to REQUEST a door now? I didn’t even book the Superior apartment to begin with! Anyways, the owner continued to tell me that I should accept becuase the SUPERIOR apartment is an UPGRADE (a downgrade from our point of view becuase it did not have a door, as we wanted, being a couple and all) and lied again to us that he would provide us on the 3rd day the apartment we booked on Booking. Obviously this did not happen and we stayed in the Superior apartment the whole vacation (7 nights). If from the start the owner would not have lied directly to my face as if I was an idiot and believe everything he said, I would have not given this bad review. For this inconvenience, he did not even bother to compensate all the trouble with something (maybe 2-3 free breakfast or I don’t know) so we can get over this situation. We just spent 5 wonderful days at Olive Roots and it was absolutely perfect! From the moment we arrived, we felt completely welcomed and relaxed. The property is beautifully designed, combining modern comfort with a touch of authentic charm, and everything was spotless and well cared for.

The rooms are spacious, stylish, and equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. The outdoor spaces are stunning – surrounded by olive trees, peaceful, and ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring the island.

What really made our stay special was the hospitality. The hosts were warm, attentive, and always ready with helpful tips about Thassos, from the best beaches to local tavernas. Their genuine care made us feel more like friends than guests.

Location-wise, it’s perfect: quiet and serene, yet close enough to reach the island’s highlights easily.

We left Olive Roots feeling refreshed and grateful for such a wonderful experience. Highly recommended – we can’t wait...

We stayed at Olive Roots from August 21 to 27, 2024. I'll try to keep this brief. The hotel is run by a very nice family, Ana and Yiannis, along with their two lovely kids. The facility is brand new and impeccably clean, with daily cleaning and maintenance. It's located right next to an olive orchard. Ana and Yiannis are incredibly helpful with everything. We came to Thasos by car and had no trouble getting around the island. There are plenty of amenities nearby, such as a supermarket, beach, and pharmacy.

However, I do recommend having a car or scooter in Thasos, as there are many beautiful places to explore. The room has a small kitchen where you can prepare a nice breakfast, or you can simply order breakfast from Olive Roots Catering, which is also great.

We really liked the place, and we'll be more than happy to visit Olive Roots again next year. Thanks for everything, dear...
