We stayed in this hotel upon our arrival to Lanquin.||The staff were friendly enough and eager to meet us and get our bags to the room.||Upon entering the room we realized we had made a big mistake.||Yellow walls with one dingy light covered with a Japanese paper lantern ball was it for lighting. There was one outlet with the 2 plugs and the other one was where there was once a plug in but now just a hole in the wall.||The beds were horrendous, mattresses were barely that and sleeping on them was scarey. The pillows flatter than a pancake and a thin blanket to sleep under...which I did not !! ||You have to go up to the front desk to get ragged towels, none are provided in the rooms.||I went to office to get wifi info and am told it is 22 quiet salas per device. O.k.???||I signed up for it only to find out it does not reach your room and you would have to sit in the bar to use it and they would be willing to reset it......later ?? I cancelled for he Internet as I am not a drinker nor did I want the banging music as we had just gotten off an 8 hour shuttle ride to get there.||We went to our room that had no lights shining on the deck and did our best to sleep through the banging music above us....yet no more than 5 peeps in the bar.||At 5 in the morning it started to rain and it would pound down on the tin roofs that covered the lower extension of rooms.||We had our fill and although we reserved for 2 nights, we went to the desk and spoke with the lovely young girl who helped us get a reservation at the nearby Hostal.||Needless to say they were not so friendly upon our departure.||The young lady at the front desk was exceptional and understanding and had only been there a few days herself. ||I saw many check in with is and depart first thing in the morning, even before coffee or breaky....just observing...and just sayin'. ||This may be geared to a younger drunken crowd !! I would avoid this hotel at all costs.||This room was very expensive and for an extra 50q we stayed at the Oasis Hostal.....Beautiful it is with pool and along a...

The next morning we ate an okay breakfast and went on an okay tour to Semuc Champey with a terrible local guide.|After having suspicions of being ripped off by the touroperator in Flores who booked our ongoing transport to Antigua, we contacted him (never, I repeat never book transport out of Lanquin in Flores you'll get ripped off by Enrique and his gang. You can book transport in Lanquin). He told us everything would be allright (It wouldn't).|Apparently the hostel was just taken over that same day by two of the best people we've met in Guatemala. They gave us the evening we needed after the bad experiences we had after coming from Flores to Lanquin.|The staff listened to our stories and told us their own. The owner is also the owner of the best restaurant in Flores😉. The atmosphere was amazing, the drinks were great and the music too. Everything came together for us that night. |The next morning we had a great breakfast and the owners helped us in the communication with the crooked touroperator (who suddenly forgot how to speak English). |Thank you for a great time last year! |I hope you have made your plans come true to make this okay hostel with a fantastic view and a legendary dog great again (or f-ing bueno!). Together with your amazing hospitality that is all a traveler in the Guatemalan jungle could...
Read moreConsidering that most of the hostels in the area are off the main road some distance in the woods, El Muro's in-town location was a welcome relief. I had the feeling that staying with those secluded lodges would mean we are completely at their mercy - having to book everything from them, arrange everything through them - and upon speaking with several other travellers I found that I was right! Some even said the owners got upset they ate elsewhere and threw them out! So, that said, being in the town itself, I was able to explore and eat wherever I wanted. The hostel staff also taught me the cheapest ways to get to the falls and the bat cave, offering their tours as an option, not obligation. ||||I had been shuffled onto a shuttle quickly upon getting off the bus, and upon arriving at another place called Vista Verde, was treated so badly I walked out a fair distance through the woods to come back to town. And was I relieved! Staff at El Muro were so welcoming, and the happy hour drinks just made things so much better.||||I read some previous negative feedbacks, I can only say: this is a hostel, if you are expecting hotel services then please go to a hotel. Wifi only in the bar area - that's the norm around here, live with it.||||Oh, did I mention the view? I checked-in at night so didn't see it then but in the morning - wow, the hostel opens up to...
