Hotel Rabin Itzam — Hotel in Lanquín

We decided to stay at this hotel because the reviews of the hostels/lodges near Semuc Champey scared us away. No hot water, cockroaches, forced to buy the food because there are not any other choices....||||So all that happened to us at this hotel. There were roaches. Not only did we not have hot water, we did not have water. The internet only ran from 6p to 10p (not a huge deal, you are out there). There are not many dining choices in Languin, so we ate at the hotel. And the hotel is located on a hill and every morning at sunrise, trucks would climb the hill at full rpm's. The beds were very thin and hard.||||The hotel owners were very nice and made sure our tours and bus transports were all lined up. The food was basic but adequate. ||||The only thing to do in Languin is see the caves and pools so two nights is more than enough. But I would stay in one of the hostels by the river next time and listen to the river at night instead...

We stayed here for 3 days after a brutal trek through the mountains including some hitch-hiking. The Rabin Itzam was like this sunny warm oasis after eating mud and dust. We took a room with a shared bathroom and shower. It was a working suicide type shower that had some mean hot water. This was the only hot shower as the rest of the shared showers were cold. There was an amazing common area outside the rooms with hammocks and tables. We hung out with a fellow backpacker and wound up travelling with him for a bit, so thanks to the Rabin Itzam for that. The owner Jorge was such a nice man. Always greeted us with a smile. Sad to say the internet only is turned on for guests from 7 pm to 10 pm. Also the mattress was a bit uncomfortable in room 13.
