Several issues with this place, including incompetent host and cockroach infestation.
We booked a "basic double room, valley view" via Expedia. Host contacts me the evening of check-in to let me know they don't accept anybody after 9pm. I shared our location and said we wouldn't be able to arrive until 12am. Host said he would wait.
When we arrived, we waited over 20 minutes until the host finally came outside his room and handed us the keys. Didn't have anything to say, just seemed irritated.
When we entered our room, there was a massive cockroach on the wall, and when I checked the bathroom, a couple of little cockroaches or roaches went into hiding. Besides that, the air conditioner was not working, and there were several beds. It was the wrong room and it was infested.
I told the host and was ignored. We decided to stay somewhere else, and it was not easy getting another room in Lanquin after 1am. It took nearly an hour but we got lucky after visiting five hotels.
Til today, the host has not acknowledged the cockroach infestation, missing amenities, and wrong room. They ignored us and put us in a really bad spot. Shameful treatment of visitors who make the effort to get to this pretty remote place. Choose a...
Read moreWe took the local bus from Cobán to reach this town. The hotel is only a short walk from the drop-off point, though the cobbled streets make it tricky with wheeled luggage—consider a tuk-tuk instead.
The room was a good size and had both a fan and air conditioning, though the AC comes at an extra cost (something I’ll also mention to Booking.com). The bathroom was decent in size, with strong hot water. Outside the room there’s a small seating area, which is a pleasant spot to relax after a long day.
There’s no fridge in the room, but when we asked, the staff kindly let us use some space in their kitchen fridge. The hotel is located right on the main road, so expect early traffic noise along with the usual chickens and dogs—earplugs are useful here.
It’s a small town, and you can walk into the centre in just a few minutes, though it’s slightly uphill. Breakfast was not included in our rate, but the menu offered a good variety.
Overall, I’m not sure I would stay again due to the road noise and the extra charge for air conditioning. On a positive note, I can highly recommend GuaTravels for booking onward journeys—they...
Read moreClean, nice rooms with ample places to store n hang up your things, hammocks on balcony, yum breakfast. WiFi a little weak. Safe parking for vehicles 😁 But the best bit are the immensely nice people. I arrived with a broken down motorcycle that I couldn't revive (they let me work on it on the shaded terrace, regardless of the mess I made in front of the rooms) and jumped into action, organising a truck to transport it. Pablo drove me all the way to a friends place in Antigua, even though he had to drive back that night as the truck was needed the next day. What a hero! I am so grateful! They were all so very kind and...
