I really wanted to like the place. The first night we were warmly greeted after the long awful sweaty shuttle it requires to get to Lanquin. Annie the hostess/reception/bartender/server was a delight! Unfortunately it’s the last time we saw her. Everyone’s room had a fan except ours. We begged and pleaded for one. It is off season and surely the place wasnt 100% booked and one fan could be spared. But no. It was hard to sleep with the heavy humidity and 85 degree night. Even after it rained. Thank god the showers are frigid and ice cold I guess. Next morning we had breakfast. The omelette literally had yellow plastic style nacho cheese in it. Black beans too soupy and watery to eat. We went on our tour to Semuc and our guide Felix was a joy! We had a ton of fun in the caves and jumping off cliffs and rope swings and sliding down the gorgeous pools. We had lunch at their sister hostel. Staff there was super friendly and fun. Lunch was okay. Schnitzel was satisfying and massive. But the overcooked soggy spaghetti o’s served with it, not so much. We decided to skip dinner when we got back and just head to another place in town but we were refused any help with transport or calling a tuk tuk. Thankfully the restaurant itself sent us one after we called. When I got back i begged and pleaded again for a fan. A flat no. No apologies. Just a gruf emotionless No. rolling in sweat with the bugs again. We wanted a pool day the next day but the river pool is empty and the other one was locked and seemed closed. And was too cloudy and filthy to look enjoyable anyways so we walked to the Zephyr next door and spent the entire day there instead. We went back to our new favorite restaurant again that night. I begged once again for a fan and begrudgingly finally was told I’d get one. I had to leave my key tho. And our ride had arrived so I accepted. When we got back it was just sitting on the bar for anyone to grab. |Just a rough and uncomfortable stay. Hopefully they get their act together because it could be much better. The property is lovely. And some of the...
Read moreTerrible experience/service! Please do not believe the pictures on here! These have been photoshopped!! Rooms smell terrible! There is no privacy in the rooms!! We wanted to reserve day before, the lady in charge at front desk, she sent the information really late night before. We arrived and she gave us attitude. She was taking calls and texting and never gave us any eye contact. After getting our room, one door had no key and they took long to replace the knob, had to carry our things with us until it was done. Another member of our party, the bathroom to their room was already messed up and the workers already knew about it and still rented the room. They had to work on the toilet while our family members were trying to rest. They did not want to give them another room. When we sat to eat, we noticed how her attitude and mood changed with an English speaking man. My family and I are bilingual English & Spanish. So my brother spoke to her in English, but she refused to answer him in English and while speaking to him, she still gave him a lot of attitude. I purchased chips for my daughter and the guy who took my money said he needed to wait for her to give him change. She arrived he told her he needed change and she just ignored him and got in the phone. I stood there waiting and the guy came back to her twice to see if she had the money. She said nothing to him and finally he asked her and she just handed him the money. I was right there and she refused to give me my change herself. She has no manners. She is only very polite to foreigners, which is not great service to be picking and choosing who gets great service and...
Read moreI really didn't get on very well with Hostal Oasis.
Don't get me wrong, the price of the dorms were excellent (Q45 is insane) but you really do get what you pay for... We had a very small dorm that was shared with two others which I'm very used to so this didn't bother for me for the money I paid.
The main issue I had was the way I was treated by the main receptionist, they let me pay for the hostal in cash but then refused to give me any change and instead, opened a tab with my name to cover the 'change'.
Really really bad money grabbing system that I unfortunately couldn't avoid.
Other list of issues were:
no hot water at all (despite advertising it heavily) food was pretty awful. drink arrived with bugs in it (normally can't be avoided, but I already had bad beef with the hostal so I took it more personal than usual. THERE IS AN ACTUAL WIFI CURFEW... They only switch the WIFI on a few hours a day in the morning, afternoon and evening, unbelievably inconvenient when you need to try and plan your day. The cleaners kept sharing the washing rack so we didn't get to use it like we wanted to.
The few positives are:
The price The bed is actually surprisingly comfortable The view is pretty damn nice
Overall, I wish I'd had gone to The Muro Hostal instead, but I'm content with the money I...
