I stayed at this hotel for a week, and checked out on Saturday February 25, 2023.
I have to say it wasn’t the worst but also was not the best. I will share my experience and you can be the judge.
Before that, I have to say- If you are an art lover you must stay at least 1 night to check out the art on the walls. There are paintings and other pieces throughout the hotel. I was able to see some on the floors 1-3 in passing. There’s even paintings on the walls of the stairwell.
The staff was friendly and attentive. I had interactions with Dennis and Jennifer and I have nothing but positive things to say about them.
I made an error with my booking date and I was relieved to hear I was not going to loose my entire reservation even though I checked in 24 hours late- though I did call the day I was supposed to check in so I wasn’t just missing in action.
We stayed in room #119. Upon first walking into the room there was a strong smell of humidity- never figured out where it was coming from. The room looked clean which was important. The a/c unit did not work, there was an unplugged lamp (we could not reach the plug as it was behind one of the beds and I was heavy). The tv worked, but the volume did not go past a certain point. Shortly after arriving to the hotel we noticed there was a youth outside our window (which was surprising at first because we were on the 2nd floor). It appeared he could not see us as the window had tint, and it was clear he was cleaning the rooftop he was standing on. Still startled us and we closed the curtain. Later on in the evening when I showered I noticed the shower head was covered in calcium buildup which affected the water pressure and caused it to spray in all different directions. I always bring my own towels to hotels but the ones here appeared to be clean. Despite the room being what it was we did not complain because really we were not spending time at the hotel other than for sleeping at night. The hotel was quiet at night. The only interruptions were from outside from yelling cats in the middle of the night and car horns in the early morning hours.
After a few days we noticed our room door was not locking. This was concerning for safety reasons and this could give anyone access to the room. Forget our things could get stolen- someone could come in while we’re asleep. I strongly suspect we unknowingly slept with the door unlocked the whole night. I reported this right away. After maintenance checked the door and it was still not resolved, we asked to move to another room.
We got moved to room #219. This room was way better than the previous one. There was no humidity smell. The view was better and no adjacent rooftop was present. The air conditioner and tv worked properly, and this room had an electric water heater. Only complaints was the paint was not on completely on one of the walls, there was visible hair stuck in the sink drain, and the shower head was in the same condition as in the previous room.
The hotel did have a pool. There was a guard at the door at all times. The surrounding neighborhood was not the best but we didn’t really step out until our car was waiting out front.
All in all I would stay there again but it wouldn’t be my...
Read moreHotel Excelsior is located what consider downtown Tegucigalpa on a small hilly crowded, busy street. The service at the hotel is excellent. The hotel provides a daily breakfast which is adequate and it's free. Everyone was very helpful, the bellman, front desk to the security guard in the parking garage. Let me tell you, there's security guard there at all time that opens and close the big iron gate that protects your vehicle.. I know this because some nights I arrived back to the hotel at early morning hours. The hotel inside could be updated but I love the look of the dark grain of wood everywhere. My room was huge with a nice flat screen and cute sitting area. The down fall is, there's no casino and the water pressure sucks when you're...
Read moreThe choice of hotels in Tegucigalpa is small. Even less choice in the city centre. Cheap hotels in the centre dont exist. Excelsior is not cheap by the standards of Central America, but rather cheap by the standards of Tegucigalpa. For 70 USD you get a huge area of room, breakfast, Wi-Fi. Most important for our daughter was the presence of a lovely pool at bottom, where you can swim even at night. This is true because in the evening walking in the area scary. However the day is relatevely quiet. To the centre to walk for about 10 minutes. Staff can speak English, but its better to do it in Spanish. It is, however, the General rule for the whole of...
