We spent a couple nights and what a way to be introduced to Balatonfured! Annuska is located on a pretty and quiet street, close to all the action. We were impressed by the build and quality of the building, but mostly by the wonderful staff, welcoming us warmly, getting us checked in quickly and even showing us the parking options, even assisting us in finding some free spots just up the street. A very short walk down the street and we were at the shoreline center of activities with the best restaurants, shops, parks, bike paths, etc, etc... everything we wanted.||The included breakfast was impressive with, again, super friendly, professional and helpful servers and chefs to assist and serve us with freshly prepared dishes made to order from a menu with delicious selections. This combined with locally sourced delicacies to select from, sweet pastries, fresh juices, teas, coffee all to be enjoyed indoor or preferably out on their patio area overlooking the yard/garden area that has a play area for kids as well as a gorgeous pool. We unfortunately were there during the final finishing touches as the pool was being built and got to discuss the process with the owner who took the time to explain the process and materials and even help us find an upgraded place in Budapest for the next leg of our trip.||The room we were upgraded to (because of some light construction noise from the pool) was amazing, comfortable and clean with a nice balcony overlooking the lake and city, comfy bed, extra blankets and pillows, well appointed bathrooms (newly remodeled) with modern touches and a mini fridge filled with purchaseable items. Again, much more than we were expecting and unlike other places, we didn't need to ask for a thing. They thought of everything and we could tell that the owners and staff were truly dedicated to their trade and enjoyed the work they did.||At the end, we were definitely left wanting more as we didn't get to spend much time at the hotel (as we were always running around the lake), but we hope to plan a longer stay soon to explore Balaton more, but mostly to stay at Annusaka once again to be treated like royalty and try out that crazy new pool!||We wish all the staff the best and hope to get to know everyone a bit...

Read moreBoutique Hotel Annushka is a historic property, built around the beginning of the 20th century and extensively renovated for the 21st century. We loved this place, and I am puzzled by some of the bad reviews about it on this site. Balatonfured was the preferred summer resort for Hungarian nobility and the wealthy prior to World War II, and this hotel is located in the fully restored old part of town. Visitors can still see a bit of the old elegance in the neighborhood, and at this property. This town is much quieter and understated than many other lake resort towns.||Hotel Annushka is just a few blocks up from Balatonfured's fabulous lakefront promenade, and it's easy walking to nearly everything visitors will want to see and do in this town. The hotel occupies two buildings, the old historic guesthouse where no two rooms are alike and a newer structure with more standard hotel rooms. We booked a suite in the historic house, which came with two bedrooms and a large balcony. Spent a lot of time on that balcony during the two days we stayed here - it was lovely. We were there midweek, and it was quiet, although I imagine it might get a bit louder on summer weekends when large crowds pour into Balatonfured. Everything was clean and tidy in the room; beds were comfortable. Front desk service was excellent, but kitchen service at breakfast was only OK. Breakfast is a bit confusing, because guests actually must order everything, including the buffet items, and any cooked items will be brought out separately. Breakfast was probably my least favorite aspect of this hotel.||Arrival and parking can be confusing, as the street address actually refers to the back of the hotel. You'll need to drive around the block to find the main entrance and parking area. Parking is limited and should be reserved in advance. I spent some time in the old library adjacent to the hotel lobby looking at old books and pictures of this hotel as it developed over time. Probably would have been very interesting if I could read Hungarian; I gleaned what I could from the...
