Taj Ahmedabad doesn't stand to its brand legacy at all. We had plenty of unpleasant experiences. Booked 2 separate rooms with 6 nights. Check-in was cumbersome. They didn't allow our 12 seater tempo on the 1st floor ramp/main entrance. The head clearance can accommodate a double-decker bus or a volvo bus. But they didn't allow it and, instead, diverted us to the ground floor entrance that was locked. The employee asked us to go through the outside stairs. We had a lot of carry-on baggage. Suitcases were handled by bell man. During check-in, the concierge insisted on seeing the airport entry stamp on our Canadian passport. We had saved all our IDs on the cellphone before flying, and the physical passport was at the relative's place. It took a while to convince him. No other hotel asks for this type of thing. Then he asked for full payment upfront for all 6 nights. I hesistated since never ever I came across such a compulsion. But had no option...paid full amount of Rs 1.33 lacs upfront. Then he lined us all in the lobby area and took our individual pictures for security reasons. All of us were utterly disappointed. We told him that this policy treats us like criminals. No other hotels have ever asked us for live pictures. They had all our IDs, and there were lots of CCTV cameras around. With our physical presence, why in the world would you embarrass your guests with such a shameless act? Highly unacceptable. The elevators and lobby area had a typical stinking pungent smell, and we experienced the smell all 6 days. Also, we didn't have breakfast on the first 2 mornings. It was a nightmare. Fish market on the 2nd floor elevator lobby. There was no space to even get out of the elevator and stand for waiting, which was 30 minutes. As a matter of fact, we never had breakfast at all for all 6 days during our stay. The first 2 days were overcrowded. For the last 4 days, my family pushed me to fire their breakfast offer and do it elsewhere since the wait/hassle/smell, etc, was intolerable. When the hotel has several banquets and dining space and when they know that their rooms are fully occupied and its going to be a big rush for breakfast, then why don't they have a plan B in place to accommodate such a huge volumes of guests for breakfast? They could have arranged 2 separate spaces or a bigger space.???
Even they didn't missed disaaponting us during the checkout. I waited fairly in line for my turn far from the desk. When my turn came, the lady at the desk began helping me. I was paying for my room service bill with my credit card. All of a sudden, another customer approached the lady and stood beside me shoulder to shoulder touching me. I had to move a bit. The said customer started talking to the lady about his checkout. To my surprise, the lady started working on his invoice, leaving beside my invoice. I sharply snapped at the lady and asked her to return back to my page on her computer. She promptly printed my invoice and checked me out. Not to mention that neither did she apologize nor did she ask the other customer to wait in line for his turn. What about customer privacy ? The desk staff needs to be properly trained. Nice things about this hotel... The rooms were clean, and the beds were very comfortable. Although shower and faucets are getting old and corroded. Also, the shower room floor was not so good... was slippery, and ...need to wash it with acid or baking soda... The housekeeping staff members were awesome. Lots of valet staff at the main entrance. Very helpful and polite... The staff was very well mannered. However, failing to deliver critical service like hasslefree breakfast, check-in, checkout, etc, leaves the customer unsatisfied. Their check-in process is like going through customs/immigration at the airport!!! Also, train your staff well. Think from the perspective of your customer. Consider this as constructive criticism. We liked this hotel in terms of location, bed comfort, cleanliness,, etc. Therefore, we will give it another shot next time we visit Ahmedabad. Show some...
Read moreIm actually staying there right now, the reception check in was smooth however the staff who greeted us when we arrived I don't think were suitable to create a good impression or the warm welcome you have come to expect from Taj.. They were not very articulate and barely smiled.. Courteous enough but lacked professionalism and warmth.. Which brings me to my second point, we kept bumping into a young man , I think he must be a housekeeping floor supervisor named Shashi. He never fails to ask us about our day, or if we needed anything and when I told him I didn't need my linen changed he thanked me for supporting the environment consciousness of the Taj. Now this is the kind of person you need to be around st check in. At breakfast, which is great by the way, I couldn't help but notice that many guests show up bleary eyed, with uncombed hair, in bedroom slippers and pajamas. Lookinglike they just rolled out of bed .. Not a pleasant sight in , surely a simple sign at the entrance with a dress code can solve this? Plenty of luxury hotels worldwide won't even serve you in certain restaurant s if you are in flip flops or shorts.. Other than these points its a great...
Read moreWhat can I say - It's TAJ!!! Everything that one would expect from a Taj hotel is true at Taj Skyline Ahmedabad. The room was spacious and the decor was nice and warm. The bathroom is spacious and well stocked. Everything in the room was "luxurious". My husband and I enjoyed the sumptuous breakfast spread - every day. The chef personally took care of us by serving us his special dishes. What was truly amazing was that during the breakfast rush hour, the guests could enjoy a cup of tea and some amazing cookies that were very well laid out while waiting for the breakfast table to be ready to serve. You must try the cookies - very nice. The staff - front desk, concierge, the house-keeping, the security team were all so courteous and helpful. When the house-keeping came to deliver some additional sachets of tea, he noticed that the we had eaten the banana and immediately refilled it even asked if I needed additional fruits. So thoughtful and hospitable. I feel bad that I don't remember their names but would request the management to thank the team who took such good care of us...
