We had booked a last few days here to be beside the sea and enjoy a bit of relaxation after travelling around. We were in one of the 4 old colonial rooms which were very spacious, with big high beds ( stools provided to get into bed!,). The rooms are all furnished in old dark coloured traditional wood and quite dark but this helped keep the temperature down. The only negative point was with very high ceilings and control of mosquitoes was difficult and provision of a net might have been helpful. This is the only place we were bitten despite staying on the back waters, in plantations etc. The pool was small but clean with plenty of beds and good towels. We ate meals in the hotel as choice was varied and prices very reasonable plus they had a public bar next door which was busy with locals and also good value. Unlike many places we have encountered there seemed to be very few staff around at any given point in time but this did not detract from our stay.||||Unfortunately parallel to the front of the hotel and almost directly above it is a brand new flyover which will become a major road and will therefore probably be both noisy and add to air pollution. At the time of staying (Feb 2020) the date of opening was not clear but this, I am sure will have a detrimental effect on this lovely old style hotel.||||The staff we saw were lovely and helpful and we enjoyed our 3 nights there. The beach is directly opposite the hotel and is very large, cleaner than I had read in previous reviews, the sea was warm but I only paddled and not many people appeared to be swimming when we visited. It is a popular place for locals at sunset and we enjoyed walking to a beach bar, Cafe Catamaran for an evening drink (no alcohol served there though) to...
Read moreStayed here for valentine's Day hoping to get a bit of luxury in what was the most expensive place we've stayed in India so far. All I can say is that it was really disappointing. The building itself is quite impressive but whilst I appreciate its old, I don't think it needs to be as tired as it is. Feels like there's furniture for the sake of it, everything feels very tired. There was next to no staff around so was hard to find anything out and they didn't really explain anything to us on arrival. The only thing this place had going for it was a pool, but even then it wasn't that clean and was small. The room didn't have a mosquito net at all, luckily we had one for our trip so managed to put that up to protect us from the mass of mosquitos that descended. Overall a highly disappointing stay in what was meant to be a spot of luxury for us on our trip. Wouldn't recommend the...
Read moreIt is a beautiful heritage stay that was built during the British rule. Right across the beach, you can cross the road and enter the beach. I like the fact that they have tried to restore the place and maintain it to the best of their abilities. We got a beautiful room and it was well maintained. The common area had interesting furniture and books. The pool was also a nice add on, we had a good time there. The breakfast was also good.
The only con was the fact that there was a group of men who didn't respect the place. They kept drinking at the pool and the staff here couldn't say anything to them. It was a nuisance since these guys used the pool and others couldn't use it because of them. It was also sad to see them disrespect the property and the old furniture here. They were drunk almost all the time and passed out in the...
