Debalaya Guest House — Hotel in Kolkata

Perhaps I should buy a house in Kolkata considering the frequent tours I undertake to the city, and the cheap stay hunting that follows. Anyway, I booked this guest house upfront. The manager was a young guy and after a few rounds of bargaining they let us in. Our room was really a turn-off from an average perspective, but yes at 500 bucks a night what more can you expect. Room was very small with no outside view. The only window let us sneak into the bedroom of the flat next door. Our bed was 5’ by 7’ which is just enough to accomodate two adults and no side pillows for obvious space crunch, although you can’t except such luxury from them. Mattress was hard, linen old and pale. They gave us a jug of water for drinking which obviously wasn’t too hygienic. Toilet was Indian type, and horrible actually. It's a good place to stay near Jadavpur University and CGCRI. Budget place to stay. WiFi available. There billing system is not proper. Owner of this guest guest house also owns Jadavpur guest house . If you need a budget hotel for groups I suggest it's good. Only con is you can not come late in night...
