Unfortunate experience!!
We recently visited to Madurai & had stay at New College House ( as name suggest there is nothing new in the premises as this may be a oldest building in a town)
I would not recommend this place (Room No. 60 for 4 beds) to anyone because of following reasons:
Old building & no new amenities like LCD TV & Wify
No hot water ( they provide electric heater and this take at least 10-15 min to make one bucket hot water)
No housekeeping/ Room cleaning on reasonable interval ( here we were expected at least a day)
Room attendant are old staff & they don't bother about customer service & they don't hesitate to ask extra money as a tip ( we paid around 50 bucks for just moving bags from one place to another & for knowing the place of water heater)
On second day of stay, all of a sudden, one truck has started undloading some hevey metal bars, noise of which made our night miserable.
Place is 700-1000 mtr far from the temple which is one of the advantage however auto wala will charge you around 50 bucks for one way travel to temple everytime.
Toilet is very old fashioned ( it's too big) an too dirty.
Fans are working on same speed (5") as there is no speedometer provided to electronic socket.
No Hindi channel to TV ( this may be because of regional requirements or...
I stayed there for a night. It is a room with 3 beds. Can't sleep peacefully as the room is full of mosquitos. As the hotel management provided the room with a mosquito repellent which is not effective, our stay there was intolerable.
The facility is with a restaurant offering tiffin and meals. It do have a spacious parking lot. In the midst of the lodge there are a lot of trees offering shade and it is pleasant. They do have a travel desk providing cab services to the customers. As the drivers depend on them for regular pick ups the drivers behave properly with customers.
The lodge is with lift facility and room service is courteous.
THEY OFFER FREE BREAKFAST TO CUSTOMERS OCCUPYING ROOMS AND IT CONSISTS OF IDDLIES, POORIS , VEN PONGAL , VADAIS , KESARI AND COFFEE. WE HAVE TO OBTAIN TOKEN FROM THE RECEPTION FOR AVAILING FREE BREAKPAST.
On a revisit on 23/8/2022 , I found out that the condition of the rooms had somewhat improved . But dustbin is not there in the room . Isn't it mandatory for a lodge to provide dustbins in rooms ? Supervisory staff should check rooms often and make sure that everything is OK . A plate of iddlies cost 25 rupees , & a plain roast 50 rupees . Rates...
Read moreHotel is located right in front of Railway station, walkable distance to Temple. Approx 800 meters. Good car parking space. Building is very old, don't expect rooms to be of 2022 standards. They are ~20yrs old. Service is pathetic, front desk is only eager to collect money. No newspaper, no toiletries, no water bottle, no towels. Charge 2200 for a/c room for 3 adults and 1 kid. Complimentary breakfast is available ONLY FOR ADULTS. if you brings kids, they dont serve complementary breakfast, they expect kids to eat outside or pay 300 rupees for kids breakfast. A 3 members family with kid can have breakfast within 300 rs at next door Sabaree hotel or GauriGanesh hotel. Definitely a no no for any food items here. Rooms are very costly compared to ambience and quality of service. Only good service is from security at car park. Those old men deserve praise. Only advantage is distance to Temple and safety of car within covered gates. Biggest negative is service, Front desk guy (Murthy) felt infuriated when I said his service was useless for not considering kids under complementary breakfast. I again will stand by what I said, service from FRONT DESK GUY WAS INDEED USELESS,...
