Hotel Ra Vista — Hotel in West Bengal

Visited this hotel for the second time because my first stay was great. The food, service, and room were all lovely, as expected. Unfortunately, this time, an unintentional stain was left on the bedsheet and bed cover by us, accidentally, and I was charged over ₹4200 for it—more than the cost of the room itself, plus the food we had.

Let me be clear: affordability wasn’t the issue. I would’ve paid ₹40,000 or even ₹4 lakhs if I had caused that much damage. But this was just a stain, not deliberate damage. I was mentally prepared to pay a cleaning fee—maybe ₹1500 or ₹2000—but paying the full cost of a replacement felt harsh, especially when nothing in their stated rules made that clear. The rules said that guests would be charged in case of stains, but they didn’t indicate whether it would be a cleaning charge or a full replacement.

The reception staff were polite and did their best to explain, and I don’t hold it against them. They were following instructions. But the whole experience left a heavy feeling—not because of the money, but because it didn’t feel like there was any room for fairness or understanding. Nobody was rude. Everyone remained professional. But it felt unfair to both sides.

The reception guy was also at a loss for words while trying to justify the charge. He paused mid-sentence multiple times, clearly trying to explain something he also understood was tough to accept. He understood my situation, but he was just following the rules.

So, nobody’s really at fault here—but I still had to pay double for something I didn’t intentionally damage. Nothing was broken. Nothing was torn. Just a stain. For which I was fully ready to pay a cleaning charge. But that wasn’t enough. I had to pay the entire replacement cost.
