I would give 2 stars based on how the hotel is right now but the extra star is for the friendly staff. Now the reason I only give 2 stars is sadly the condition of the hotel is very run down and neglected, many things not working or broken ect. However, this is a holiday island and for 2 years very little people are holidaying because of corona so I can appreciate why many many hotels and restaurants on Gili have been neglected and have no money to fix anything. It does look like the hotel is having some work done to it so maybe in a few months it will be back to it's original glory. But as of now I can say the following. The AC in the bangalows do not work very well, both us and another guest complained, the plants are a bit overgrown, the pool no seating area anymore as they must be doing some work on that meaning the pool was surrounded by dirt.
The good things, the WiFi actually wasn't so bad for Gili, it did it's job although having to login everytime we returned to room was a little annoying but not a bid deal. Also having complained about our AC in the room the staff eventually offered us a free upgrade. While the upgraded rooms also we're a little neglected the AC was great so we were much happier.
So overall I believe in the past this hotel was great and I hope in the future this hotel will be great again but right now if booking then you need to expect the hotel to be different to the photos. It's still a great hotel and worth checking it out and as I said the staff were very friendly.
I do fell sorry for these businesses and I understand it's very hard for them so I don't want my review to be to negative or to harm their business but I wanted to give an honest...
Read moreWe loved our stay in Gili but t was only made bearable by our fantastic view out to sea . Our balcony was amazing we were either on the beach in front on free sun beds or we were sat on the balcony watching the world go by. The staff were nice and friendly and bed comfy but apart from this , I have nothing good to say . The rooms were shabby , dirty , basic, smelly .. we had lots of power cuts which are common on gili but other places had generators and were back on . The aircon was set to lowest but never really cold . The breakfast on day 1 was stale tasting toast and eggs Benedict ( just 2 hardish boiled eggs no sauce . The next day we tried pancakes and fruit and that was better . Young lads cleaning the rooms were like my 2 teenagers , the bathroom and toilet all needed scrubbing with bleach . The pool area was ok but we never used it because we we more or less on the beach . We used carpe diem cafe next door a lot owned by la bella hotel and apparently they have bought blu da mare so don’t be too put off I think they’ll be a refurb soon . We...
Read moreI stayed here alone for 4 nights, from September 13 to 17, 2025. One of the best parts was being able to use the private sunbeds right in front of the sea for free, which made it easy to relax and enjoy the ocean as much as I wanted. The breakfast was also delicious and had a wide variety of options — and you can even enjoy it while lounging on the sunbeds.
The ocean view room I stayed in had a terrace overlooking the sea, so I didn’t even need to go out at night. I just ordered room service and enjoyed dinner while watching the ocean from the terrace — it was perfect.
The location felt safe, even for a solo traveler, as it’s right along the main road. It's also only about a 10-minute walk from the harbor, so I didn’t need to take a horse cart to get around.
But above all, the staff were truly amazing — every single one of them was so kind and welcoming. Their warm greetings and small talks every day became one of the highlights of my trip. I genuinely felt sad to leave after 4 nights. If I ever come back to Gili, I’ll definitely...
