Well this is a treat. Just read the managers response to my review on tripadvisor. And as he or she was highly unprofessional and aggressive there, I thought, allright, that deserves another review then on google as well.
To recap: I had written a review to state that I was not pleasantly surprised by their food or service, that I had visited them three times and found their food overpriced and their staff unattentive and rude.
Now as the manager of that establishment choose to take offense and not see that I also said that their poke bowls are amazing and that the overall taste of my food was good, I wanted to point that out again here!
It is not my fault if your staff does move in timelapse, not see if people want to order or pay and instead are talking or on their phone, and than act annoyed if you call them over. Also I did not provoke anybody to be rude, if a simple question for a dish gets answered by looking at me with an angry face and a harsh voice, thats on your staff, not me! Maybe your ongoing training should be intensivied, such behaviour doesnt belong in the service industry.
It is also not my fault if you serve an overly salty pasta or one with a piece of bone in it. I did by the way tell the waiter that I wasnt happy but they did not resolve it as you so kindly suggested. Of course I do know how to articulate my complaint but if they still just hand me the bill, then thats that. I dont have time or an interest to go look for their manager..
And as to why did I come three times if I was dissapointed by the food.. Well, I firstly wanted to give you more than one chance and try some of the dishes you recommended on other negative reviews as replacement which would surely be great if they tried and secondly it was my friends which were more into western food and wanted to come again.
You also stated maybe my expectations are too high because I was unhappy with some other places on Gili T. To that I say: well excuse me for expecting decent food if I pay nearly European prices for it! It doesnt matter if its on an island, food and service can be good, no matter where. I know that from first hand experience of much more remote places than an island just 20 minutes off the coast of Lombok.
Now to end this on a (semi) positive note: your coffee is great, your iced chocolate is amazing, again: your poke bowl is also amazing! And your carbonara tasted like a carbonara should taste like..
(.. except for the bonepiece and the hard, dried meat you used, fix that and all is good, use a little less salt on the spaghetti and all is good, and especially tone down on the attitude if you get a negative review, and all is good.)
Also to you a big fat...
Read moreWe stayed at the Trawangan dive which was lovely and over a period of 3 days we had food at their restaurant Far Cats twice. The food really was a hit and miss.
First time we had starters from their specials which were amazing. For mains we ordered burger and beef rangang. The burger was good however the beef was very tough, not enjoyable at all.
On the second day we ordered a starter platter and requested no onion. When the food came out it clearly had onion on nachos and bruschetta. When we pointed this out to the waiter, he came back to say that the chef has stated this is garlic, definitely no onion. (There was garlic on beans, but definitely onion elsewhere) We were literally made into idiots! If the chef can't tell the difference between onion and garlic then they may have a problem here. Even the waiter admitted that he thought this was onion too when we placed onion on plate side by side to the garlic that was on the beans.
Unfortunately something that could have been easily resolved by prepping fresh nachos and bruschetta without onion, was turned into a very bitter taste for us and ruined any trust in the food/chef. It really was a shame because the chicken wings, calamari and cheese sticks of the platter was tasty. Needless to say we did not order any further meals here and went to another restaurant to finish the last evening in Gili T.
EDIT: I appreciate the response, however the issue here was not the onion/shallots itself but the fact that there was no attempt to actually resolve the situation! It was clear we didn't touch the nachos nor ate the bruschetta and having run my own restaurant I would have regardless of misunderstanding offered to replace the items in question. Also if we are looking at the translation logic, onions in Indonesian are bawang bombai, shallots are bawang merah and garlic is bawang putih. I fail to see how one is more associated with the other than onion. Also when translating bawang translates into onion and bawang merah translates into red onion. The point was we asked if no onion, and regardless of misunderstanding nothing was done to attempt to...
Read moreThe atmosphere at beach terrace is perfect, especially at night, it's away from most loud music and it's nicely lit with many small lights.
Sadly the service was verry slow when we were there, and some mistakes were made with the drinks which took a very long time to correct.
Both starters (BBQ chicken wings and nachos) were nice.
After that I had the teriyaki beef which was OK / nice, but definitely not the most flavourful food of Gili Trawangan.
My wife had the vegetarian penang curry which was sadly one of the worst curries we had during our trip so far, it was very salty with almost no other flavor coming through.
Taste is ofcourse highly subjective, but we will not have dinner here again. Though as the cocktail and starters were OK/good we may come back for a few drinks and snacks with a lovely view
Edit: Changed to 4 star, we visited a few more times for just snacks (nachos, chicken wings, potato wedges) and it was all great. You get an amazing view with nice finger food and...
