First time Google reviewer but really feel the need to add one for this Hotel…
I booked Ratan on short notice due to a change of plans for our Bali trip with my husband, we just wanted a reasonably priced room in Uluwatu.
We had planned to spend our days out and about at the beach, so we weren’t worried about fancy facilities and really just wanted a decent place to sleep at the end of the day!
We checked in to room 109 in the early afternoon, and I immediately noticed a musty damp smell. Not uncommon for Bali so figured it would get better as we were in the room and aired it out. The bathroom was also very sub-par, with mould and mildew, it also had a smell from the drain but again, not uncommon for Bali and dampness, overall I wasn’t thrilled but figured I could cope for the price.
We quickly changed and left the room for the day, so it wasn’t upon returning and spending more than 30 mins in the room did the smell really start to bother me. I also noticed two air fresheners (initially thought they were bug spray for the mosquitos!). Read some more reviews and found another that specifically called out room 109 as in dire state.
We had booked three nights here so I spoke to staff to request a room change. Initially they said nothing was available but then after telling them I couldn’t stay in that room, they were able to make up another room for us, unfortunately it was number 209 which was directly above 109.
At this point it was past 9pm when we took a look at the room. When we went upstairs, they had construction workers still on the roof and also throwing concrete off the sides!!! So dangerous!!!
Room 209 was better smelling, although it was overpowered by fragrance which they could have been using to mask the damp smell again… the bathroom was in a very rough state though, worse than 109.
Assuming they have had a roof leak at this end of the hotel which is being repaired and causing issues? Perhaps wishful thinking.
The absolute last thing I wanted to do at almost 10pm in Bali was have to try find somewhere else to stay and repack our bags to move, but we had no choice, either room was frankly inhabitable.
The fact they knew they had an issue with the roof and complaints about room 109 and continued to check us in is totally unacceptable.
The staff were reasonable about the situation and upon spending 30+ mins on the phone speaking to management, issued me a complete refund in cash as I did not want to wait for a credit card refund.
I have not been contacted by management or issued any apology.
Will also add that the location is not good and you will need to get a scooter or Gojek/taxi if you want to go anywhere, if you do decide to risk a booking.
All I’ll say...
Read moreFor the price point it was soo lovely, so peaceful. The staff and employees here have got to be some of the best in Bali. They are so friendly and so traditional and authentic Indonesians. Lovely and peaceful.
My only tip for the hotel was breakfast, I much preferred the a la cart breakfast to the buffet, or if doing buffet stuck to fewer items such as what is included in the a la carte and done extremely well.
It was not obvious that we could order eggs or milk, or that we could get a pool towel, and on the first day we had buffet but second no buffet so we assumed the cook wasn’t in and we left the hotel without breakfast for the day as we didn’t realise it was a La Carte that day. So maybe more info should be given to guests.
A lovely lovely hotel, we stayed in the bungalow villas. This hotel is not for people who are light sleepers, or fussy people. You must be willing to accept that you can hear a rooster, dogs next door on occasions and people’s voices next door speaking.
We aren’t fussy people and absolutely loved the authentic experience, it was still quiet and still so peaceful. You can hire a bike at hotel for 100 k a day or look around and get one for 75 k delivered. Far enough from the busy hectic area but close enough to enjoy all the restos on the street.
Gojek or grab is another transport option for food delivery or quick rides around.
Really enjoyed our stay and would stay again!
Beautiful staff and employees who aren’t yet westernised like the ones in...
Read moreHi there,
So I'm back here in Bali and this time I will be staying most of my days here at Uluwatu. When I was looking for a hotel to stay in here at Uluwatu, I came across with this hotel - Ratan Hotel and Resort and upon checking it on Agoda where I usually book my hotels this hotel has good reviews and nice photos so I decided to book this one for my trip.
Here are my reviews for this hotel:
Location: -perfect location -quiet from day to night -there's a convenience store right outside the street -5 to 10 mins. away from all the restaurants and coffee shops
Rooms: -I stayed in a pool view room on the ground floor so I love it -good temperature room -not so maintained bed sheets (quite dirty) -not so maintained bath towels (quite dirty) -plumbing in the bathroom is quite worst and dirty
Service: -nice hotel staff (special mention to these Indonesian male staff who are really welcoming and always smiling whenever you get to see them, they are also hardworking people. But when you get to encounter this one Indonesian female staff at the front desk, she rarely smiles and not so friendly with hotel guests, she's quite lazy at work also she just always uses here mobile phone rather than being nice with guests going in and out of the hotel)
Food: -Im sorry but they don't have any restaurant that can offer you food and drinks
I am not 100% satisfied with this place so when I am back here at Uluwatu I will be in search for a nice accommodation to stay...
