Labak River Hotel by EPS — Hotel in Pulau Bali

After spending more than two hours in traffic from the airport, we finally arrived at the hotel, where I had already reserved and paid for a room. Upon arrival, I was asked for my passport, personal details, and everything seemed normal as part of the usual check-in process. However, after providing all my information, I was informed that they could not accommodate us for all the nights we had booked and paid for — they only had availability for one night, and we would need to leave the next day.

This happened due to their mistake of not blocking the rooms on Agoda, which led to overbooking. Unfortunately, they did not have the courtesy to contact me beforehand by phone, WhatsApp, or email to let me know. Instead, they made us spend valuable time and money traveling there, only to tell us upon arrival that our reservation was not available.

The staff was polite and apologetic, but a simple apology does not give me back the day of my vacation that I lost trying to resolve the issue with Agoda and requesting a refund (Agoda had no knowledge that the hotel was overbooked).

In the end, we had to arrange and pay for another private transfer to a different hotel.

I strongly recommend that anyone booking this property through online platforms call the hotel directly to confirm availability, as it seems they are unable to properly manage their reservations.

What was even more frustrating is that after I had already requested the refund and was searching for alternative hotels on Agoda and other platforms, I still found my original dates available for booking at this same property. Clearly, they continue to accept reservations without properly managing their inventory.

Das kleine Resort mit vlt. 15 Zimmern ist eine wunderschöne Oase außerhalb des völlig überfüllten und im Endlosstau erstickenden Zentrums von Ubud.||Zunächst macht der erste Eindruck, oben an der lauten Hauptstraße gelegen, gar nichts her, man versteht die Worte der Rezeptionistin beinahe nicht vor Straßenlärm. Doch dann geht man bergab in eine andere, friedliche Welt. Die Gebäude mit den Zimmern, der tolle Infinitypool, Bar, Sitzecken, sind eingepasst in die terrassenförmig befestigte Hanglage. Ein wunderschöner, gepflegter Garten voller Blüten, Froschquaken, Geckos und Schmetterlingen erwartet den Gast, der Blick zum tief unten eingeschnittenen Fluss, in dem Kinder baden. Ankommen, Erholung.||||Völlig ausblenden läßt sich der ewige Straßenlärm, das nervende Geknatter des Verkehrs, aber leider auch hier nicht - im Restaurant, zeitweise selbst auf der Zimmerterrasse, nimmt man ihn als Hintergrundgeräusch wahr.||||Lage||||Hier muß man eigene Prioritäten setzen, die relative Abgeschiedenheit bedeutet eben auch, Transportkosten bzw. Zeitaufwand, wenn man zum Essen oder Einkaufen in die Stadt möchte. Gehen ist entlang der Hauptstraße keine gute Idee, biegt man jedoch hinter der Brücke links ab Richtung Affenwald erreicht man den Ort durch ruhige Nebenstraßen mit relativ vielen Restaurants in etwa 30 Minuten zu Fuß. ||Mit dem Taxi sollte man auch mindestens 20 Minuten einplanen, je nach Verkehrslage sogar länger.||Nur etwa 200 Meter vom Hotel kann man im "Barong Bridge Cafe" gut essen. Kleine Büdchen für Getränke sind ebenfalls nicht weit.||||||Zimmer||||Die Räume sind sehr geschmackvoll gestaltet, modern und frisch, mit hellem Holz, warmen Farben und Lichtinseln und schönen Deko-Ideen. Die Größe ist ausreichend, gutes Bett, Minibar mit fairen Preisen, angenehm leise Aircon.||||So schön gestaltet und geräumig das Bad auch ist, mit hübscher Kommode als Waschtisch - die Dusche ist einfach schlecht angelegt. Offen, und direkt vis a vis der Toilette (wobei ich nicht sicher bin, ob da nicht eigentlich ein Duschvorhang hängen sollte). Um also diese nicht komplett unter Wasser zu setzten, dreht man den Duschkopf so weit es geht zur Wand hin und duscht somit nicht eben komfortabel. Anschließend steht ewig eine Wasserlache vor der Toilette. Alternativ kann man den Brauseschlauch in der Badeanne zum duschen benutzen.||Es fehlt ein Handtuchhalter.||||Zum Zimmer gehört eine kleine, ebenfalls freundlich möblierte Terrasse.||||Gastronomie||||Im hauseigenen Restaurant mit schönem Blick über die Anlage wird das Frühstück serviert (kann auch auf's Zimmer geliefert werden). Zur Wahl nach der Karte stehen verschiedene Arten, American (entweder ein Sandwich oder Toast und Ei), Kontinental (entweder Cerealien oder Pancake), Indonesisch (Mie oder Nasi Goreng)... Lecker ist es, allerdings, ehrlich gesagt, nichts zum sattwerden. Es gibt entweder einen Saft oder eine winzige Fruchtplatte dazu, nur eine Tasse Bali-Kaffee. ||||||||Service||||Es gibt jede Menge Personal, alle sehr freundlich und immer lächelnd.||Wi-Fi läuft gut.||Zwischen 15 und 17 Uhr kann man einen Afternoon-Tea bzw. Kaffee mit einer süßen Kleinigkeit bekommen.||||Transfer nach Ubud ist schnell verfügbar, für 70.000 IDR. Einmal täglich, um 10 Uhr, gibt es einen kostenlosen Transfer in die Stadt.||||Das Hotel bietet private Tagestouren (nur Fahrer, kein Guide) zu den sehenswerten Zielen der näheren und weiteren Umgebung an, die Preise für 6-8 Stunden sind um 700.000 IDR ausgesprochen moderat. Auch zu selbst gewählten Zielen sind selbstverständlich...

Room is not well maintained. There's stains and dirt everywhere. Bed sheet is stained and it looks disgusting. Amenities were always not replenished (we need to keep calling reception to get them replenished). Toilet door lock isn't working. WORST PART is the water heater. Taking a shower IS A NIGHTMARE here. There's no hot water for your morning shower, only ice cold water. And if you shower in the evening, you can never get a steady temperature. The water will keep on going from ice cold to scalding hot temperature, keeping you on your toes. Be ready to jump in and out of the shower to avoid burning/freezing yourself during shower 🙂

We also had our room changed 2 nights later (we went out early morning) and their morning shift staff did not convey the message to the next shift staff and we almost ended up with no room to enter after a long day out. The evening staff couldn't understand a single thing we said and it took us a long time to get him to call his colleague to understand what's going on. 🙄

View is nice but I wouldn't come back. Cleanliness and the water heater issue is a deal...
