MOTHER — Restaurant in Pulau Bali

This is an HONEST and TRUTHFUL review of my direct in person experience meeting THE OWNER OF MOTHER 🤮🤢

After reading other negative reviews and seeing how the owner responded to negative feedback from previous customers—I cringed when seeing the hostile, defensive and arrogant manner in which she addressed peoples genuine experience and disappointments.

When you see other reviews that are negative, and you read how the owner responds to peoples feedback—it’s clear that she doesn’t take constructive feedback well. She often deflects and justifies, invalidating what customers experience, and tries to make the customer seem not valid in their direct experience.

She is lacking openness, receptivity, humility, maturity and graciousness. She often responds to negative reviews in an abrasive way, dismissing and deflecting customers—and reaffirming her position as “right” and the customers feedback as “wrong”.

I had the chance to meet with her in person, and sat down at a table and shared my disappointment about the newest menu change they implemented, and how a favourite drink was removed from the menu sadly. I’ve been a loyal and consistent customer for the past year. This is not the reason why I feel compelled to write this review—it’s because of my direct impression of meeting the owner that left me DISGUSTED! This review reflects on her, and not my overall experience at Mother.

We spoke for 10 mins, and in this meeting she often complained about other customers who share their disappointment at Mother, and told me that many customers are “self entitled”, and treat her staff not well. She positions herself as a victim, and sees her customers as perpetrators of abuse. It was interesting to observe how she would rather judge and criticize those who share their honest feedback, rather than be grateful for the feedback and adjust herself to what the customers need, require and desire. She needs to get off her high horse—and remember she is here to serve others—and their feedback and experience matters the most! Instead of belittling others that share truthful reflections and honest feedback, that may hurt her ego—but serve a bitter dose of reality and reflection of light to her ignorance.

It’s her job to please, honour, respect and meet her customers—and ultimately she needs to learn how to serve her customers better. In my meeting with her, I felt she was fake, insincere, cold, egotistical, arrogant, passive aggressive and slightly condescending. She could not simply listen—but had to constantly defend her choices and decisions, and she is easily triggered by negative feedback (a fragile ego). She really believes that customers are in the wrong, and that she is always right—a highly distorted perception!

She leads from her ego, not her heart—and unfortunately I didn’t experience any genuine warmth, care, or sincerity in our meeting. I feel sorry for her staff, because they are the ones who are directly receiving all the complaints from her poor leadership choices and decisions. She needs to look at herself—because she is failing in every way, and driving out / repelling customers from her poor attitude, nastiness, greediness, arrogance, and her own self entitlement she projects onto others. It’s not the customers that are self entitled—SHE IS!

There is a lot of darkness in her soul, a JADED heart, and I truly wish for her to one day know the true meaning of what the word Mother symbolizes and stands for—love, care, selflessness, compassion, empathy and giving full heartedly! She is full of self deception, lies, ignorance and arrogance—and she still has a lot to learn about true hospitality and what it means to simply be a good human being!

My heart goes out to everyone who has had negative experiences at Mother—it’s the owner herself that is the problem. She still has a lot of growing up to do. It’s simply not ok how she treats her customers—she is a BULLY to good people that deserve to be honoured...

I had an absolutely delightful breakfast experience at Mother Cafe in Ubud. The menu offerings exceeded expectations, and each dish was a flavorful delight. The fresh fruit served was truly a refreshing cleanse for the soul, adding a vibrant touch to the meal. The coffee was a standout, boasting rich flavors, and the option of oat milk elevated the experience even further.

The omelette, while slightly on the smaller side portion-wise, was a burst of taste that left me thoroughly satisfied. The granola bowl, paired with fresh fruit and coconut yogurt, was an indulgent treat that showcased a wonderful blend of textures and flavors. Additionally, the banana bread was exceptionally fresh, a delightful accompaniment to the meal.

The prices were reasonable, making the experience even more enjoyable. The staff were not only friendly but also accommodating, adding to the positive ambiance of the cafe. Although the restaurant may lack panoramic views, the quality of the food truly makes up for it.

Another positive aspect was the availability of free WiFi with fast internet, which is always a welcomed convenience.

In summary, Mother Cafe in Ubud offers an outstanding breakfast experience that excels in taste, variety, and value. With its friendly staff, quality food offerings, and convenient WiFi access, it's a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a satisfying and enjoyable meal. We’ve been regulars at Mother, often coming for breakfast and sometimes lunch, especially on weekends. The warm ambience, kind staff, and peaceful atmosphere have always made it a favorite spot for us. One of the things we appreciate most is how the team works with kindness and patience—values that are even written on little notes around the restaurant. It really shows in how the staff treat guests, and it’s one of the main reasons we keep coming back.

However, our recent visit around 10 a.m on 20th of September 2025 was disappointing. The usual warm energy was missing. The staff seemed on edge, and the mood was very different. We noticed a woman—who appeared to be a manager—sitting in the corner. There was some issue with the staff schedule, which didn’t seem like a major problem, but unfortunately, she chose to handle it by shouting and throwing something in front of everyone. This created an uncomfortable scene for customers, and more importantly, was humiliating for the staff. We even saw one of them in tears.

It was disheartening to witness. Hospitality doesn’t only apply to guests—it should extend to the team as well. We often focus so much on training staff to treat guests kindly, but forget that managers also need to lead with kindness and patience.
