The 3 stars are all for the esthetics. This place is a delight to hang out in. Lots of comfy seats, cozy with lots of light and airiness.
Unfortunately, this is where it ended for me. I came here for breakfast on a Friday morning around 11 AM. It was entirely empty.
Their breakfast menu is limited to three items: a salad, what I’d call an “English breakfast” with black pudding and baked beans, and pancakes. That’s it. And they were out of pancakes! How can you be out of pancakes? It’s just flour, eggs and milk and water…
Ok so I gave up on eating anything and decided to go for coffee. They have an extensive coffee set up with all the pro equipment. I decided to go for their “signature cold drip” with oat milk.
It arrived in a tea cup with 3 massive chunks of ice and a separate medium class of oat milk. I took the ice out of the cup straight and it was literally filled 1/3 way up with coffee in a tapered cup (see photo). 3 sips max. There was twice as much oat milk than coffee.
I took the glass back to the counter and asked them to fill it to the top. The staff looked displeased but obliged after a stare down and filled it up to 2/3…
Credit due where credit is due: the coffee was delicious. It was simply an unreasonable amount. You get more wine when you are testing it than this cup of coffee when you paid for it.
I came here thinking I’d spend a good chunk of my morning here. Eat, drink and do some work. I left once my tipple of coffee was done.
Disappointing because it’s just a beautiful venue but the menu is uninspired and service...
Read moreDecided to share this here so the owner (lil Bagus - means Great in the local language) can know how special this place is and for every reader to understand a little more about this beautiful cafe and perhaps change your perspective on grief.
"This place was designed & created by my big brother, but he's no longer around. I lost him 3 months ago💔"
I can relate because I've lost my big sister too. I feel your pain but I'm glad this is how big Bagus chose to leave and the gift he has left behind, is simply a gift to all.
Grief often brings upon sadness but I felt the love and immense joy that has been put into this place. I'm grateful for big Bagus' creation because it allows visitors like myself to have a taste of his imagination while imprinting beautiful memories in mine. I'm also happy for lil Bagus because he will forever be able to live in big Bagus' beautiful creation, swimming in big Bagus' love and care when he created this place. (Yes, the brothers have the same names)
We get to choose how we remember every life event. This is the most beautiful thing anyone could ever leave behind and the most loving way of leaving. And it is a much better way for us to remember our loved ones who...
Read moreWe headed up to Ubud for the day Sunday (20/8) and had seen good reviews for the hidden space cafe so stopped for lunch. Its a lovely rustic setting and the garden/fish pond area is very attractive. Surprisingly and disappointingly whilst we were one of the only ones of two groups there (another small group were having drinks) the first few things we picked off the menu were not available (Rosemary chicken/Orange Coffee sold out at noon?). What we then ordered though was a good alternative and prices are very reasonable. The service though was a little indifferent and the young staff seemed to preference playing with their phones behind the service area. The beer they had on the menu was served warm with a glass of ice. It took them quite a while to check and clear our table. I would have been more concerned if they were busy as to whether...
