Our visit to Wayang Retreat was a very nice one overall, but somehow also a bit confusing as there was a bit of an imbalance with the beauty of the place, and level of management… Hopefully this will improve as they develop and I wish them all the best going forward!||||I was very Delighted about:||- Their Beautiful and charming compound, feels like a hideaway in busy Canggu. ||- Outdoors kitchen area is no doubt the BEST I’ve seen in Bali, extremely well kept and equipped, stylish. Very nice to cook there even for a larger group.||- Place is well equipped with pool, jacuzzi, rooms have very good showers / toilet areas||- Staff are very polite and helpful||- Feels very safe with security ||- WIFI worked the best we had in Bali in all 2 weeks||- Was greeted by a cute golden retriever, super sociable. ||||I had a bit mixed feelings about:||- One of the dogs barking a lot of the time at “nothing” although very timid. If you are expecting a “quiet escape” experience by the pool and in your villa, this may be a bit different. If you are the type of person that stays in the villa very little, this is probably no problem.||- At night, you can also sometimes hear several other neighborhood dogs barking away for hours very close. To be honest, I had to sleep with ear plugs in the end the first night.||- One of the days we stayed there was also a pitbull looking dog just roaming around the compound without a leash. I understand Balinese have a special relationship with their dogs and I am a dog person as well, but to me that was a bit much, considering the reputation of those dogs (especially if you cannot know how well they have trained this dog…)||- Previous customer’s medicines and cough “personal creams” were somehow forgotten inside our closet, and there was also garbage inside the room’s laundry basket (probably from previous person), which was a bit surprising, since we expected the rooms are fully cleaned between customers…||- Wayang Retreat seemed very private at first, but on our last day catering service people from a nearby restaurant started to pour in almost all day as there was a surprise dinner event being held inside the compound... this did not really fit my idea of a quiet retreat.||||Overall the place is really nice if they just keep developing the experience considering the customer’s side a bit more with how they...
Read moreWe stayed for two weeks at Wayang and we loved it. The doors open up to a lush garden and beautiful traditional Javanese style houses and the room was clean and nice.|It’s no luxury resort but for the location the price is good. |Normally we rent villas on AirBnb but we are happy we chose to try this retreat instead; it’s not very busy and always very nice staff around if you need anything.|Also the manager Junior is super nice and knows Bali very well. Any restaurant recommendation from him is worth trying :)||We went in the rainy season so of course, mosquitos are present. They offer natural mosquito repellents that are effective.|I recommend this lovely place but if you are very troubled by the occasional encounter with frogs or dogs this might not be for you.|A nice family feeling, very good location and true Indonesian style is what this little hidden gem can offer.||Many really great breakfast places in the near neighborhood as well as a short trip over the rice fields to get to the busy Canggu areas by the ocean.||Oh, and if you go with someone interested in horses, this is very close to the best Equestrian club in Bali; Bali Equestrian Centre. It’s...
Read moreWhat a wonderful place, beautiful Javanese villas set in gorgeous grounds with a lovely pool area and a huge shared kitchen dining area with honesty bar.||Each villa is uniquely decorated, full of art & books, ours was huge, with a massive desk & bathroom open to the elements. ||The staff were delightful & would make you coffee in the morning or come chat to you when you were passing through, there are 2 resident dogs, one was very timid but the other was happy for a pat.||There are plenty of options for breakfast close by & lots of options for dinner either walking distance or by a Gojek bike ride (as someone who has only been on a moped once before I would encourage you to try, by far the easiest way to get round with the traffic & I felt perfectly safe).||Recommendations would include Korra spa just down the road, Skool restaurant or Caravan on the beach for sunset drinks & fresh seafood.||Villa was amazing value & would thoroughly recommend - hopefully we will...
