Food poisoning at Mill Park hotel restaurant (Chapter Twenty) Donegal

We stayed at the Mill Park Hotel Donegal from the 1st to the 4th of November 2022 for a short family break. First night we had a meal at the restaurant (chapter twenty) and within 20 minutes had instant and violent food poisoning from their Louisiana burger.

The food poisoning lasted all night to the point that I was concerned that an ambulance may be called.

We informed the staff the very next day, but it wasn’t until we checked out that the Manager was finally called to our attention, we explained the situation to her and her immediate reaction was accusatory and denied anything had happened and that in fact we were mistaken, and it was nothing more than a stomach bug and not food poisoning.

I’m a 43-year-old man with a young family so I know the difference between a bug and sever violent food poisoning.

The attitude from the manager was an instant dismissive defence position, our overall bill was £800, and we were only asking to have the £15 for the burger removed but to have our integrity questioned at the hotel reception in front of other customers our child and hotel staff was completely humiliating unnecessary and how NOT to a handle a food poisoning complaint.

The correct approach would be to believe the customer, undertaken an investigation as not to poison other customers from the kitchen and apologies for the incident.

At the very least an apology would have been welcomed, instead the manager made accusations as to make out we were trying to dodge the bill. In the end they begrudgingly deducted the £15 after we outright refused to pay.

In short, terrible customer service, manager needs re-training and the food caused severe food poisoning.

Just had the most relaxing weekend at the beautiful Mill Park Hotel in Donegal Town 😊 We booked a Junior Suite as it was a belated Birthday Break for my partner. The room was extremely spacious, elegantly decorated, warm and cosy and spotlessly clean. Our bed was HUGE and so comfortable, we both had the best nights sleep 😴 There were also two large super soft armchairs in the room, with a coffee table, a big flat screen tv, tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge with complimentary water. The bathroom in the suite was absolutely amazing 😍 A huge standalone bathtub and a fantastic rain shower with excellent water pressure. We had dinner in Chapter Twenty the Hotel's restaurant, they have an excellent varied menu and the food was really delicious. The staff organised a special Birthday dessert complete with a firecracker to celebrate my partner's big day, for which I was truly grateful. We had breakfast in the hotel both mornings and it was divine. So many options and everything freshly cooked and piping hot 😋 Mill Park Hotel is a really beautiful and elegant hotel, with gorgeous well maintained gardens. It is situated just outside the town of Donegal but only a ten minute walk to the center. From start to finish we were extremely impressed with the exceptional customer service that we received from each staff member we met 🌟 In every single department they were incredibly friendly, warm and helpful. They also went truly above and beyond to make sure that my partners' birthday was really special and that meant the world to me. Thank you all so much for...

We stayed at Mill Park for three nights at the end of July and had an excellent experience. Our room was a spacious, ground-floor King room. It was clean, quiet, and well appointed. There wasn't air conditioning but a fan was provided in the room that we used at night. We were never too hot but the weather was mild (60s-70s) while we were there. Face cloths were provided and refreshed each day along with the towels. The bed was comfortable and the room was so quiet. We slept great! We purchased the Breakfast package with our room and it was the best decision we made. Each morning we were up early and off to hike and that breakfast carried us through the day. Breakfast included a wide variety of freshly prepared food and drinks. I was blown away by the fresh yogurt and mixed fruit compote and I ate too many scones. We ended up eating dinner at the on-site restaurant each night because we were too exhausted from hiking all day. The food was very good. I had the salmon twice! We also drank a number of draft Smithwick's beers at the restaurant and the bar. The service staff at the hotel were all friendly, efficient, and accommodating. My only complaint is that you can't enjoy your drinks in the bar area with an appetizer. The bar area is very comfortable and several nights we wanted to relax with a drink and snack before dinner. However, food is served in the restaurant only. I would absolutely recommend staying at this hotel and if we ever return to County Donegal, we will...

First time visiting Donegal, first time visiting hotel. Lovely hotel, light and airy reception area. Arrived before check in so had lunch in the restaurant on site. It was really nice. Hot, fresh and plenty. Staff were attentive. The only niggly thing for us in the restaurant was that as we were eating an older member of staff started hoovering around some tables, granted not near us, but while your eating you don't want to be hearing or seeing someone hoover! We checked in and was given room 259, which turned out to be the last room nearly furtherest away from reception and bar! Receptionist was very pleasant, welcoming and had a good sense of humour. The room itself was lovely, clean and a nice size. Fully equipped with extra towels, toilet rolls, biscuits, lovely touches. All too often you have to go to reception for extra towels in hotels, so was nice to see they had them ready. Sadly there was a smell from the bathroom. This was quite overpowering, so we kept the light on, so the fan would work and the door shut, hoping this would help. It didn't. It smelt like the shower plug hadn't been washed. We did tell the girl (a different one from check-in) on the way out the following morning, just so they could investigate. She looked like she didn't care! Breakfast was included in our stay and this was set in a nice setting and variety of options. You wouldn't walk away from breakfast hungry! Would definitely return and would recommend
