Generally friendly staff. Many of the issues are around the cheap construction of the building, and also with the external services (laundry, wifi, and printing).
For one use of the laundry machine then the dryer you'll be paying a total of €7 for the cheapest settings, with most of the cost being for the laundry machine. Rather than paying this extortionate price, you'll find most people buy drying racks for the kitchen, but due to the small kitchen sizes this results in most of the free space being used up so you have to squeeze past.
The wifi is only 10Mbps, which is a very low speed nowadays; ethernet sockets for higher speeds are provided but never worked for me. You can also only connect 5 devices to the internet unless you pay yet another fee.
There were too many times to count during my stay where I went to have a shower and there was absolutely no hot water. Others in the apartment confirmed it was the same for them.
Many rooms are directly in front of the Luas station, with regular trams from about 5AM to midnight and maintenance during those other hours. The noise from this goes right through the windows even when closed (40-50 decibels when the Luas is going by), and in the lower floors you can feel the fixtures in the rooms vibrate from how close the tracks are. With the windows closed you can still distinctly hear the station announcements and even the sounds from the ticket machines and the validators. There's no wall to separate the station and the building (which would improve privacy and reduce noise to the lower floors), only a fence with a few shrubs, another cost-cutting measure I assume.
The bedroom doors also let noise right through them. Not nice being woken up at 7AM when someone's blasting music through the hallway on their way out, or when people are having long conversations in the hallway when you're trying to study where it's as if they were in your room.
The locking mechanisms on the doors also kept failing in multiple rooms. The doors of course have auto closing hinges, but the locks becomes too stiff for the door to actually close or lock under this force; this results in the apartment door being left open, or the room doors appearing to be locked but being able to be opened with an easy push, which is a huge risk to security in the building considering it's easy to tailgate someone through the main gate and into a building, which then gives full access to these affected apartments. I also imagine this is a fire safety hazard considering these doors, which are fire doors, therefore do not fully close. Through putting in maintenance requests the staff fix it for maybe 2 or 3 more closes, where the issue then returns; we all gave up on submitting further requests after a few times.
Alternatively the locks become stiff but not so much that it prevents locking, and instead the doors slam violently when closing; one time this was enough to cause multiple things on my bookshelf to fall off onto me and the desk.
With the amount of people in each apartment (up to 8) there'll of course be loud parties going on until late. The common room closes at 11PM, so they'll be held in your kitchen. There was one security guard who was strict on this however at some point in my stay he stopped working there, while the rest seem to be very lenient.
The rooms also become over-hot even when I have switched the radiator off, sometimes reaching 30 degrees Celcius. Opening the window then of course significantly increases the already high amount of outdoor noise.
All of this, and considering the price you should expect a premium offering, which you clearly do not get. Instead, good house shares are available from €700 including bills on the usual rental sites; sharing a 2-bed apartment costs €1200.
I have to note that the area also has a lot of antisocial behaviour, including assaults and muggings. It's a common occurrence for rocks and bricks to be thrown at the apartment windows and at people in the accommodation courtyard, as again, only a low fence is present between...
Read moreHorrible stay, wouldn't recommend to anyone. we were supposed to stay for 2 nights but on arrival, the room was 85 degrees (even though it was 60 degrees outside) with no AC or fan. The window did open however it swung open over the middle part of the bed which was a hazard if you wanted to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. the window also didn't allow you to close any part of the blinds so be prepared for the sun to burn your retinas as soon as it rises. There is no noise insulation - you will hear every word of a conversation in the hallway or units adjacent. Its also right next to a bus depot and tram station so it was insanely loud especially if you have the window open. I've never laid in a more uncomfortable bed in my life and the pillows are essentially non-existent. The bathroom light also is motion sensored and has one setting - BRIGHT. you have no option to use the bathroom without the light which is bizarre. If we didn't arrive at midnight, we would have left the first night and found somewhere better to stay. We left the morning and forfeited our second night because it was actual hell. we asked the property for a refund for that second night since we couldn't stay there and they refused. Avoid at all costs. I've stayed in hostels that are more...
Read moreI stayed on Thursday 18th Aug 2022. Have to say bed comfy but had not been cleaned. Hairs from previous guest on duvet and sheet, window had been left open allowing flies and bugs in. Still okay stay until someone let themselves into my room in the middle of the night around 1.30am. Key cards clearly not just assigned to one room. As a solo female traveller I felt very unsafe as a result, had to put the chair behind the door as a wedge in case anyone else decided to let themselves in in the middle of the night.
Luckily for me, woman (and man behind her) left straight away when they walked into room after I jolted awake and shouted in fear. Could have been a bad situation otherwise. No response from accomdation when I told...
