Not fit for Pigs DO NOT STAY HERE…..You will regret it unless filming a documentary for worst hotel in the world, in which case you have a clear winner. I have stayed in many places across the world and are happy to stay in hostels (so Im not fussy) but this is easily the worst hotel I have ever experienced. Actually we did not stay the night there we checked out as it was unfit for even a diseased suicidal pig to live in. The staff are not just rude they are stupid. It’s like everyone completely unemployable has been given a job here. The manager is the sort of person who would rub his genitals all over your food if you complained….and you will complain!!!!!!!!!!!.....expect the food to be a little salty. There is no point complaining as every idiot you chat to does not think there is a problem with a half-eaten sandwich lying in the middle of a hotel hallway. The place is worn which is fine but they have no pride in the place at all. We were waiting for staff at the reception desk for ten minutes when we entered the hotel so went looking for someone and what we came across was litter on the carpet!.....Not a few pieces of paper but it was like someone had emptied a garbage bag all over the hallway. We then watched a half-hearted effort to clean up using a broom on a carpet not a vacuum cleaner!!!...........with this sort of attitude do you think if they ever had bed bugs they would get rid of them?...of course not. I am not sure what is worst, the wet damp sock/mould smell as you enter the hotel room or the stains on the sheets. You will not want to attempt hoping into bed unless you are wearing an air tight de-contamination suit you would wear if treating people for ebola. Make sure it is a warm de-contamination suit because the heating does not work. The room would have been dated 40 years ago and in situations like this is, all you can do is laugh. To be fair there are some positives the hotel is very close to Jerusalem old town (which is good because half the cabs we tried to get us to drive to the area did not want to go there saying it is a bad area…the other half asked us “why are you staying there?”…they obviously know how bad it is), The carpet sticks to your feet which is a safety feature as you could trip out of the window into what I think might be a tip at the back. It’s worth looking at the view from the window for the laugh. It may also win 1st prize for the worst hotel in the world which is an achievement. Please forward this review to anyone looking to stay in Jerusalem or anyone in need of...
Read moreKeep in mind this is the "New Metropole" Hotel. There are other hotels in the area with the name Metropole so don't get them confused.||Anyway, I was here for a month on an archeological dig so I got the full experience of the hotel. I would honestly give it 3.5 stars as overall it was good but it had its draw backs.||Pros and Cons:||Pros:||The location, just outside Herod's Gate which makes it within walking distances of most of the sites in Jerusalem. Also, it's just down the street from the really nice Rockefeller Museum (Which is free).||The food, the hotel cooked for us and they did a really great job. Even making accommodations for a vegetarian member of our team. I personally really enjoyed the Maklouba they made for us.||Geefa, an older gentleman on the staff who was very friendly and did quite a bit of the work.||Cons:||The rooms, I was with a roommate but the hotel would only give us one keycard which was very inconvenient because we would often be coming and going at different times. Also, the TV in our room was broken and was not fixed.||The WI-FI, it could be quite spotty at times. So it might be worth investing in a SIM card if you come here.||The staff, often they were good, but not always. Whether it be giving us a wake up half an hour early, missing making a meal or giving us inaccurate information about traveling to the airport. You couldn't always depend on the...
Read moreStayed here for 5 nights last week with my friends. There were 3 of us altogether and we were places in the second floor. The downside of this hotel is the size of the lobby which is really small and there is only one lift in the building, which could it fit three persons. Fortunately we were staying on the second floor, which means we could easily take the stairs. Room wise was quite satisfactory for three individuals. The hotel is quite old but its location, which is the closest to Al Aqsa Mosque makes this hotel a gem for Muslim visitors as most of us are here to visit the mosque and pray there five times daily during the short stay. The closest gate leading to Al Aqsa Mosque from this hotel is the Herod's gate, which is only about 60-80 metres. The nearest tram station, Damascus Gate station is only about ten minutes away by foot. There's a number of convenient stores nearby -Al Samman store selling various types of nuts and a small shop selling coffee beans and herbs. The staffare friendly and ready to help. Overall, I would recommend this place if you don't mind staying in a small...
