At $275/night, this hotel was as expensive as our accommodations in Florence and Rome but provided much lower quality of service. The garden and pool are pretty but the overall experience was not worth the expense.
At this price, I generally expect a warm welcome and comfortable arrival. That was not our experience at all. We followed google maps to the hotel, and could not immediately find it. We had to call to get directions. The streets are stressful and very narrow around the hotel. Once we arrived, no help was offered with luggage and we were rushed to move the car to the parking lot. The parking lot is a few blocks away in a field. After parking, we walked back to collect our luggage and check-in.
The person checking us in was managing multiple phone calls and couldn’t focus on our check in. We weren’t given internet connection instructions for example. Then the manager arrived and strangely injected criticism of my girlfriend's english. My girlfriend is Roman but lives in the US. In the manager’s opinion, my girlfriend has a strong Italian accent for someone who has lived in the US for 12 years. Her opinion was not asked for or appreciated and that demonstrated some seriously poor interpersonal skills. She did help us to the room with luggage but we couldn’t wait for her to leave us alone at that point.
The room was a bit small but relatively nice. There was nothing amazing about the room but no major complaints. The walls were thin and hallway noise was loud in the room. Luckily there wasn’t much hallway noise. Unfortunately the restaurant noise was a bit disruptive with people smoking outside our window after midnight.
The pool and garden are lovely.
The restaurant was good but service was very slow for our dinner. The next morning we had breakfast at the restaurant. For breakfast, the restaurant shined, largely because of the incredible service of the morning staff. The morning restaurant staff were the standout highlight of our entire experience at La Tavernetta. The breakfast buffet was nice too.
After four nights it was time to check-out. On departure we had to move bags down the hall, down an elevator, and pass a room at the entrance of our building. A screaming match between staff was going on in the room for 20 minutes and it could be heard in the garden, upstairs, around the building… It was disturbing and the thought crossed my mind that maybe the police should be contacted. As I carried the last of our bags off the elevator, the manager exited the room where the screaming match was happening. I’m not certain, but it appeared she was the person causing this scene. We heard other staff embarrassed of the behavior.
We won’t be coming back. It was overpriced and the quality of service did not...
Read moreThe La Tavernetta is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. With breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve this creates a feeling of relaxation and excitement. The staff is incredibly caring and will do anything and everything to make sure you are having a good time. At times it is challenging to communicate with the staff but for the most part they find a way to understand you. If you ever have a problem with a translation issue, Vito is one of the managers who works at the hotel and speaks very good english. He would be more than happy to help you. He is always running around but he spends most of his time managing the bar.||The food is delicious and their head chef Antonio has studied and worked in Dubai and Japan. I had the pleasure of meeting him after telling the waiter how much I enjoyed my meal. Antonio doesnt speak English but Vito stepped in and translated my compliments to the chef. The restaurant is open for Breakfast and Dinner. All the food is fresh and prepared on the same day.||The location of the hotel is in a great place for people who just want to chill by the pool and unwind. Also it is close to many beautiful beaches, especially the famous Tonnara di Scopello which used to be an old tuna factory that is now converted into an event venue. Another beach that I really enjoyed was Cala Mazzo di Sciacca. Also if you're someone who likes to hike you can go to the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve and it has countless private beaches that you can enjoy. If you get tired of just relaxing all day you can travel to Palermo which is about an hour and a half away by car. Also the La Tavernetta is close to San Vito Lo Capo, a beautiful sandy beach town and Marsala which is famous for its sweet wines and salt fields. There are so many beautiful places to travel and see in Sicily but the small town of Scopello is truly one of a kind and why it is always busy during the summer months. If you have the chance to ever go to Sicily you will not regret staying at the...
Read moreWe came here on a friend’s recommendation and did not regret it. Once we figured out how to find it (Don’t follow your GPS directions into the village square! Instead follow the signs to go around to the secure gated parking lot and then call the hotel for the entry code), we arrived at a most beautiful room built out of rock walls and ancient ruins. Our “room” included our own private patio with loungers and a bistro set surrounded by plants and flowers. The sea views from our room and the infinity pool were absolutely stunning. We enjoyed the igloo-encapsulated outdoor hot tub one afternoon and were excited to find an outdoor ping pong table nestled in the shade of ancient olive trees and roses. There were hundreds of varieties of plants and flowers all over the grounds that kept us pausing to investigate. The staff and owners were helpful, friendly and always willing to chat with us visiting Americans about the history of the area. The breakfast that was included offered a multitude of choices. Fresh pastries, fresh squeezed juice, cappuccino, and tables of meats, cheeses, fruit and other special treats were put out daily. The village was small but just walking distance from our room and offered several restaurant choices and a bit of shopping. There’s lots to do within an hour or two of the hotel so rent a car. It is a great location for a quiet and relaxing...
