As many reviewers have noted, the location of this hotel situated just off of the main square of Scopello is perfect and charming. The ambience is also simple but cozy and our room was small but seemingly comfortable with an extraordinary view of the tonnara. Upon first impressions, we were delighted. ||||As I think a lot of guests may do, we opened the doors of our small balcony to let in the sea breeze and at night when we returned to the room, did the same. At about 3 am, we were awoken by sounds of mosquitos who were torturing us. When we turned on the lights, our room was covered in what we think must have been at least a hundred mosquitos -- on the walls, ceiling, behind our bed, they were everywhere. My partner immediately went to seek help and some kind of repellant to remove them. The man attending the desk that night was very apologetic and said that this "happens often" and that most guests don't know to keep the doors shut at all times. We were absolutely perplexed as so why the hotel staff had not warned us of this or mentioned anything. We were never given any instruction on how to use the AC (which is not straight forward -- it is on some kind of auto device that turns it off whenever the windows open, I suppose to save money...) nor were we ever told about the mosquito problem around the periphery of the property. ||||In all honesty it's not that there are mosquitos outside that is the problem for us -- we understand that this happens in rural areas in the summer. What is frustrating and unnerving is that the hotel staff did not provide adequate warning on how to deal with this. We felt this was a gross negligence. || ||Long story short, our bodies were covered in huge bites and we slept a total of probably 2 hours that night. The next morning, we spoke with the front of house woman, who rather than apologize, smugly said "you expect us to tell every guest to watch out for mosquitos? impossible." She was defensive and arrogant, making it seem like we were just silly tourists. We were very disappointed in her reaction and simply left with a bad taste of this hotel.||||We wont be back here and unfortunately cannot recommend this place. It is true that they are in this business just for the money and do not take pride in or responsibility for the experience they create for...
Read moreWe really wanted to love this hotel, but unfortunately it was just not a comfortable stay. ||The location was really beautiful, and the rooms had a delightful view of the sea and Faraglioni do Scopello. But the room itself was pretty old and run down. It didn’t feel clean at all (the lampshades, for instance were quite dirty and covered in what may have been mould). ||The whole room had the strongest smell of some sort of toilet or bathroom cleaner - it was really overwhelming to the point that we struggled to sleep, and felt like we weren’t breathing in fresh air but instead toxic fumes. It seemed to have faded a little overnight, but returned again after housekeeping came through (assuming they rub it on every surface as the whole walls and floor are tiles). Once it faded though there was a strong sewerage smell from the bathroom - not sure which smell was worse. We couldn’t even open the doors or windows to try to air out the room, because of the massive numbers of mosquitos that would come in. ||||We tried to keep the windows and doors shut as much as we could to combat this, but housekeeping would open them all up again, meaning there were so many mosquitos in the room (again making it very difficult to get to sleep) despite our attempts to avoid this. The mosquito coils the hotel provided seemed to do little to help. The bed was pretty uncomfortable as well, and we were only given two very thin pillows for a kind bed. ||||For the price we paid (this es pretty expensive compared to most of the other much nicer hotels we’ve stayed in this trip) we expected so much more. ||||Service was fine, staff weren’t very helpful when you asked them questions but otherwise seemed pleasant. ||||Definitely would not return, unless the hotel/rooms have some...
