Our recent stay at the Hotel San Giorgio in Civitavecchia was a disappointing experience that fell far short of its advertised four-star rating. From the moment we arrived, it became apparent that the hotel did not live up to our expectations.
The state of the bathroom was unacceptable. It was dirty and poorly maintained, which left us feeling uncomfortable and questioning the cleanliness standards of the establishment. Additionally, the presence of broken furniture in our room further highlighted the lack of attention to detail and maintenance by the hotel staff.
The condition of the elevator was equally disappointing. It appeared run down and in desperate need of repairs. Using it felt like taking a risk, which added an unnecessary element of concern and discomfort during our stay.
However, what truly soured our experience was the attitude of the hotel receptionist. They consistently failed to greet guests or offer any warm welcome. Their indifference and dismissive behavior made us feel like an inconvenience rather than valued guests. It is essential for a hotel to prioritize customer service, and the Hotel San Giorgio clearly fell short in this regard.
Considering our overall experience, we cannot recommend the Hotel San Giorgio in Civitavecchia. The lack of cleanliness, the state of disrepair, and the unwelcoming attitude of the receptionist left a negative impression. We expected a four-star hotel experience but were sorely disappointed. It is crucial for the hotel management to address these issues promptly and improve their standards to meet the expectations of...
Read moreIt is clear this was once a nice fancy hotel, sadly there has been little to no upkeep over the years, and the years have not been kind.
The staff was available as needed, but were not overly welcoming or accommodating. The beds were clean, but the bathroom was so bad my husband and I skipped showering. There was mold on the shower head and other locations in the shower, the bidet was non-functioning, and the toilet had off and on trouble with constant running. The lift was more a tiny death box on a string and I only got in because I could not manage carrying my suitcases up the stairs.
The views were not entirely of the neighboring alleys and if you could look from the front of the building you could partially see the ocean. At least the walk down to the shore is not terrible where there is a really nice park to stroll and relax.
The on-sight restaurant was equally rundown but the service was good and the food was tasty.
The location for us was not great as it was a VERY long walk to the cruise port. And there are extremely limited options for transportation between the hotel and the port. The hotel offers a shuttle but it fills up too fast and cannot accommodate all the guests. And the front desk staff was not helpful in securing an alternative ride.
Overall I would not willing stay at Hotel San...

Positive:
Good location, personnel very courteous, plenty of restaurant nearby.
Negative:
Difficult, but possible access for the less able.
Many rooms have steep internal stairs, thus, to be avoided if you are not fully fit. In our case, we had a dog with us and that did not work out at all, but we were given another room. Worn out furniture and carpet both in the room and the hotel itself. A general sense of abandonment with peeling paint in our room, discolored carpet, broken sink faucet handle, fluctuating water temperature, no heating in the bathroom, filthy air filters in the AC unit (which also provides heating), no amenities, if not a little bit of shampoo. No armchair in the room, just a desk chair. The room is very small, almost claustrophobic. The hotel bar and restaurant were closed for the entire duration of our three-day stay. Breakfast is, at best, mediocre. The first day the beacon strips were as hard as rock and there was only wonder bread. There is no attention to people with intolerances and or allergies with total lack of signage and personnel not fully trained. There was no fresh milk, only the funny-testing one (UHT). Soy milk was only available the first day,...
