Hotel Smart Cruise — Hotel in Civitavecchia

When I began making my plans to cruise out of Rome, I made a conscious decision to stay in Civitavecchia for three days pre cruise and two days post cruise. Most folks stay in Rome and yet I knew that Civitavecchia was a hidden gem with amazing views, food, shops and most of all people. I had done my homework and did hours and hours of research, and after reading wonderful reviews I decided to book at Hotel Smart Cruise.

Immediately after I booked online, I received an email from Luca, welcoming me, and reassuring me that he received my reservation. He explained about every necessary detail and that as the date became closer that he would be in touch. He did just that. I felt very comfortable and that a relationship was already establishing, which made me feel really welcomed!

I asked him to please hire a private driver to pick me up at the airport. On arrival day and while in the air I messaged that my plane was delayed twice. He reassured me that it was OK and that someone would be there to pick me up.

When I arrived, I was literally out of that airport in 10 minutes since I only had carry on. Luca had sent me a photo of where the driver would be and he was exactly at that place. It was a wonderful surprise that it was Luca himself!

It was a serene drive from Rome to the hotel. It had just stopped raining and the sun was shining by the time we arrived. Luca had to return to the airport for another pick up and so Flavia greeted me. What a treat! She explained how the QR code worked and welcomed me with espresso which was just what I needed and within 10 minutes I was in my suite! All I could say is wow! It was the cleanest place I’ve ever stayed. Having the steam room in the suite was an added plus, along with a bowl of fruit and a stocked refrigerator. I felt like royalty!

I decided after unpacking that I would go explore. Flavia gave me a map and directions and within three hours I knew how to get around the entire town. It’s that easy! I walked everywhere! Shops, food, banks, cafe, the beautiful outdoor market, and the port are a simple 5-10 minute walk. I would do a good 10 miles a day going everywhere.! The best is the Waterview and the beautiful restaurants overlooking the water and all of the sitting areas along the way! Some days I would sit for hours and just watch all the people while I would have a drink and something to eat at the local restaurant. So much history here!

Every day I was greeted by someone. Luca would be there in the morning, setting out the deliciousness of the pastries and the coffee. At times I would be greeted in the afternoon by Flavia and the house staff, and in the evening I was greeted by John who would always ask if I needed a good suggestion for dinner or if I needed a taxi. I also had the pleasure of being greeted by the owner Massimo, who was very pleasant.

Every morning, I was the first to rise, and every morning Luca would be there with a big smile and asking if I would like coffee, pastry or needed any suggestions on what to do for the day. And at times if he didn’t see me, he would check on me by what’s app.

I had the most amazing time on my mediterranean cruise, and yet I could not wait to get back to my new family in Civitavecchia. Coming back was like coming home!

Post cruise I had a simpler room without the steam room which was just as sparking clean! It was perfect! My two nights were wonderful as I explored the town with all the beautiful lights. I always felt very safe walking back alone.

The travel back to the airport was just as serene only this time we had the sunrise which made it even more beautiful. Once again, Luca was my driver. As we arrived at my hotel in Rome, I hugged him and said Arivederci… it felt was like I was hugging and saying farewell to my Son. 🥲

PERFECT location & five-star treatment by Hotel staff.**

Such a positive experience it's difficult to express how happy we were.

From the pre-arrival communication RE pickup at airport, until we left the hotel everything perfect.

I'll start with the most relevant comments. Those who wish more details can read on.

Hotel manager "Luca" sent a QR code that opens the hotel's front doors & the room immediately after booking.

He communicated via text WhatsApp & email Re Airport pick in the hotel's electric Mercedes van + photos where to meet inside airport. Was waiting with a sign & our name on it & walked with us. Private & direct to hotel for same price as taxi.

Friendly, informative, & a marvelous tour guide, dining suggestions & information on things we said we might like see/do during our brief day two-night stay. We couldn’t have been happier with the way we were greeted & treated.

At this hotel, you don’t have to think about anything. The cruise port terminal entrance is so close to hotel it’s not worth effort of putting your bags into the hotel’s complementary shuttle there. Only 45 meters/yards.

20 steps from hotel a great local pizzeria that’s been open over 30 years + grocery store 60 seconds walk.

across the first street is the main downtown strip—shopping, cafés, restaurants, convenience stores etc. merges with boardwalk & gorgeous views + dining options, public areas to sit, stroll &relax.

The hotel itself is impeccably clean, as are the rooms. Everything white.

Beds & mattresses comfortable, & pillows high-quality.

Very quiet at night. Zero interior or street noise.

Air-conditioning excellent.

Hot water & pressure excellent. Rain, shower + hand shower. bathroom, generously sized. Abundant white towels. Toilet & bidet + ample counter space. Complementary water & juices in mini fridge + coffee. Wi-Fi good speeds. Large television + channels. curtains excellent. No stairs to rooms, a ramp.

Neighborhood safe and comfortable day or night. Many with cell phones in-hand.

You can’t go wrong with this place. I saw many hotels I almost booked, for higher prices . But nothing near them, we would’ve been trapped at hotel eating & dining , or a long walk or taxi.

Across the street is the stop for the hop-on-hop off bus. €15 for an all day pass, stops at Major sites in Cevitavecchia. 40 minutes to do the loop. Bus provides free headphones connected to guided narrative. Bus every 60 minutes.

Split my big toe with a bad cut + forgot my blood sugar medication just before leaving on this trip

Luca” - hotel manager, insisted on driving me to the only pharmacy open on Sundays. Stood with me in a long lineup & translated & advocated for me to get my medication without a prescription.

When the pharmacist cited local laws preventing her from providing me the medication without a prescription, he insisted on accompanying me to the hospital, guided me through the local healthcare system until I was seen by a doctor, had a prescription and my wound attended to. then brought me back to the pharmacy again.

Never at any hotel, have I seen or experienced such a caring group of employees. And it was not limited to Luca. Every One of his team was equally caring, service oriented & trying to make sure that we had everything we needed from the moment we arrived. Complementary coffees, juices, and waters while we waited a brief 30 minutes for our rooms to be ready early.

I have the opportunity and privilege extensively for work & personal reasons. & I assign enormous value to both the location, cleanliness, immediate environment, and treatment I receive when I stay at a hotel.
