Camere i Coralli — Hotel in Monterosso al Mare

DO NOT BOOK HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES

We booked this Cinque Terre vacation property back in December of 2015 for a planned July 2016 stay (i.e. I booked it 7+ months in advance). We planned to stay at this property for 5 days out of a three week tour of Italy.

Just yesterday (~6 weeks before our arrival) the Hotel cancelled my reservation with "no reason" given. As they contacted me and asked that I "cancel my booking" (i.e. so they do not get charged a fee by the travel website), I suspect that they found another party interested in booking for more than 5 days or willing to pay a higher price. The tour operator has been unable to obtain any reason for the last minute cancellation and the hotel is still accepting reservations on many websites so it appears to be operating normally.

The travel website we used has been unable to locate replacement hotel or property as trying to book in Cinque Terre 6 weeks before the July busy season kicks off is...insanity. Back when we originally booked this location there were hundreds of hotels and apartments available for us to choose from. Now there are less than 10, none of which are comparable or suitable.

The travel website we used has helped us book accommodation in a different part of Italy. Helpful, but we would have rather they had been able to locate a suitable replacement. Granted that appears to be nigh on impossible with this short of a time frame and with everything booked up.

So we are left crossing Cinque Terre off from our vacation, unless we do some sort of day trip from elsewhere. I can't begin to express how frustrated and angry I am with this property.

Think about this before you consider booking with this property. Do not book with them. They will ruin...

A 15 minute walk from the Monterosso train station, along the waterfront and through a short tunnel, brought us to Camere i Coralli. A narrow staircase climbs from street to room level (no elevator), but it's not difficult to negotiate with a modest suitcase.

We stayed at i Coralli for two nights. Our large, clean room included king-sized bed; en suite bathroom with shower, bidet, large towels and plenty of hot water; and closet kitchen with fridge, 2-burner cook top, sink and a few dishes, glasses and utensils. We looked out on the house across the narrow street but two large windows provided light and ventilation. A mini-split unit heated and cooled the room effectively. We found a few modestly priced bottles of Italian wine in the room available for purchase.

Our gracious and helpful host provided reviews of and recommendations for nearby restaurants, cafes, small food stores, places to see and the well-known and much trod walking trails of Cinque Terre.

We visited Monterosso in late February. The town and trails seemed to be ours alone. We saw few other folks on our walks along the trails and found little competition for overlooks with spectacular views of the Mediterranean and steep coastal hillsides. Mi dispiace dover dare questa recensione negativa. Non per il soggiorno (che non c'è mai stato) ma per il trattamento ricevuto. Ho prenotato un mese prima il soggiorno pianificando tutto il viaggio, prima a Monterosso per girare le cinque terre per poi spostarci a Genova. Mi sono reso conto solo dopo di aver prenotato inserendo una carta che utilizzo solo per acquisti online per cui la ricarico solo all'occorrenza. Mando un' email per chiedere se dovessi caricare la carta o se si potesse pagare direttamente in struttura. Mi è stato detto che non c'erano problemi e si poteva pagare tranquillamente in struttura. Vengo sollecitato da booking a ricaricare la carta altrimenti mi avrebbero annullato la prenotazione. Rcontatto la struttura per fare presente ciò e chiedo se posso ignorare l'email o devo comunque ricaricare. Mi rispondono nuovamente di ignorare l'email. A due giorni dalla partenza mi annullano la prenotazione e chiamo la struttura per chiedere spiegazioni e la proprietaria mi risponde che ormai la stanza non c'era più. Ho passato il sabato pomeriggio a cercare una soluzione ma non ce n'erano. Poca serietà e precisione dal momento che mandando due email per chiedere info su questa cosa,il minimo era fare una chiamata per chiedere se effettivamente avessi annullato io la prenotazione e contattare chi avesse prenotato subito dopo di me la struttura per dire che purtroppo c'era stato un errore. E fidatevi, che si può fare. Perché noi abbiamo provato a prenotare un'altra struttura subito dopo, ma ci è stato detto che purtroppo erano al completo e non capivano perché booking continuasse a prendere prenotazioni. Queste sono strutture organizzate ed efficienti. Mi dispiace, ma non è quello il modo di gestire un B&B perché ho rischiato di perdere i soldi del biglietto del treno e l'intera vacanza. Non potendo rilasciare una recensione su booking la lascio qui su Google, sperando che possa essere d'esperienza per qualcun altro. Mi dispiace, ma non mi sento di dare un giudizio positivo a questa struttura che deve rivedere molto l'organizzazione per poter informare meglio i...
