Honestly, where to start with this review. From check in to check out, our stay at Excelsior was incredible. From the beautiful "Forest Love" room, the delicious food on offer that's all included, to one of the best cocktail bars I've been to. Excelsior is a family operated resort and you really see that. The owner came around at dinner to ensure everything was okay, and we saw the family around the hotel a number of times. The staff were amazing - for dinner we were lucky to have Miriam, who honestly - could not have been any better. Our evening drinks at the bar by Alberto and Luka were so impressive - it's a major hub of the hotel. We're located in Syd, Aus - and I don't think we have a cocktail bar that could compete - and this is located in a hotel! Very impressive. For meals - you're not going to go hungry. Besides what is on the menu, there's always a selection of meats and bread on offer. I couldn't get enough of the amazing Italian meats! For breakfast, there's a menu of the standard eggs, bacon, sausages. For dinner (which is selected at breakfast), there's a nightly rotating menu, or you can select from a standard menu that's always available. The chefs prepared amazing food every single time. Basic we know, but we loved the bolognese! Selecting dinner at breakfast worked well for us as we didn't need to worry when we sat down for dinner, after a long day of skiing - everything was organised. The wine selection was impressive. You chose from a tablet which had everything in multiple languages (thank you!!). We stuck to Pinot and there must have been at least 20 options available. We enjoyed a different Alto Adige wine each night - and each was superb. The hotel is a ski in and ski out resort. Each room has a locker to store everything in. Step outside and you can ski straight down to the lifts. In the evenings we enjoyed the sauna sessions with Paolo which was an extremely relaxing experience. The adults only spa area was beautifully decorated with a number of areas to relax in. It features an amazing infinity pool looking out over the town and the mountains. On our day of check out, it snowed and covered everything with snow. The resort was a beautiful place to see it - we really wish we could have stayed another few nights! The hotel assisted in getting transfers from local towns to the resort, as well as getting us back to Innsbruck airport, all thanks to a train strike. The staff were always so happy to help. If you're thinking of staying here - do it. You won't regret it. To Excelsior - thank you so much for the hospitality! What an experience! Keep doing what...
Read moreA Truly Exceptional Stay at Excelsior Hotel in San Viglio||We stayed at the Excelsior Hotel in San Viglio and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We booked a Family Duplex Room, which was spacious, comfortable, and ideal for a family—beautifully designed with plenty of room to relax.||The service throughout was excellent. One standout example: we were running late on arrival, and the hotel proactively called us to offer dinner delivered to our room so we wouldn’t miss out—an incredibly thoughtful touch.||We booked an e-bike tour with Mr. Call, along with our two children, and it was one of the highlights of the trip. He guided us through truly spectacular landscapes, and we had an absolute blast on the bikes. Highly recommend this activity! ||We also participated in the #DolomitesWall, the mountain climbing wall at the hotel which the kids powered around - and we tentatively followed. A little bit of onsite adrenaline. ||The adults-only infinity pool is simply breathtaking—the view over the Dolomites is unforgettable. Meanwhile, the children’s pool is just as impressive, with high-end features that kept our kids entertained for hours. The spa facilities, including steam rooms and saunas, were clean and luxurious. Both my husband and I had massages (€100 each) which were excellent and fairly priced.||Fitness-wise, the hotel offers two gym areas. The cardio and weights space is compact, but more than sufficient if you’re active during the day. The Fit & Fun Zen Zone, is a gorgeous workout space with a jaw-dropping view.||We opted for the ¾ board (breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner) and found it to be great value for money. The food was of solid quality with a good selection each day.||A real gem of the hotel is the cocktail bar—it would hold its own in any 5-star hotel in London or New York. The cocktails were the best we’ve had in a very long time, and the bartenders were clearly very experienced.||In short, the Excelsior offers a fantastic blend of luxury, family-friendly amenities, and unforgettable experiences in the heart of the Dolomites. We would return in...
Read moreWe stayed there as a couple with a 4-year old in June 2023. We perfectly enjoyed our stay. We are looking forward to coming back: Spacious, modern, well-designed, clean room with practical equipment, large balcony and great view (we stayed in the newer building, floor 9). Beds were top quality, and the room was very quiet, we slept perfectly. Fast, free internet. Fantastic food, with a good variety, always tastefully prepared and beautifully presented. Good healthy options. Decent wine list. Very nice, careful and helpful staff; the owners were highly engaged. They also organized wonderful hiking tours (and other excursions) for the guests. Functional, spacious, thoughtfully designed garage to keep (&fix) our mountainbikes.
St. Vigil is of course a great place for a mountains / Dolomites holiday with family. There are several nice playgrounds and nature sites in the village, the path to Pederü was great for the kid to improve his cycling skills. There are so many extremely beautiful hikes and trails around, in all four directions. Like a paradise. Some of the best mountainbiking in the world.
I have stayed in many hotels over the years, so this praise is against the background of quite some competition. The owners really care about their hotel and seem to have done everything to make it as convenient, functioning, and beautiful as possible.
(One, tiniest, thing that might be improved is the breakfast coffee. Most items were served from a buffet, but for the (excellent) coffee we necessarily had to wait for a waiter, sometimes for a while. This bottleneck could be removed by adding a coffee machine to...
